Interesting. Could be like something done in the Mac world called MacHeist.

There's a Macintosh specific application bundle web site called MacHeist, that has as part of it's major bundle releases a series of puzzles that people try to solve, in order to get access to additional programs for free. It's a fun and interesting supplement to the bundle sale itself. It's a way to market the bundle, but it also helps shape and form a community.
Humble could be planning to do something similar, where in addition to the sale of bundles, they may have puzzles or other mysteries for us to solve, which might result in free games or some other benefit.

There'a mac site that had a quest as part of the giveaway.
Can't remember the sites name.
I remember getting steam keys for 3 or 4 games.
edit:
Doh ! just read the post a few comments up :)
MacHeist
Though a lot of people got the keys without doing the quest until it was blocked by the site admin.

I'm not sure how long it's been there, but I found this hidden by chance on the HB website. Then I edited the styles and revealed them to take a screenshot. There's no link at them. I wonder what will that be? :)
