Well, times like this makes me want to say "Fuck you valve". Seriously, wtf...

What's to work on, can't they just "turn it on" again?

People will start again with ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give DIRETIDE and they give it. It's something new in this game couple times in year and everyone wait for it. I Play in all events in dota and such a big company like a valve cant give same and change little things.. funny. they prefere fuck people and events... better give new items to shop.

I'm ok with that, I rather have big updates than Diretide.

Except, y'know, the entire reason the spam got so out of control was the original implication that it'd be an annual event combined with Valve's total lack of communication on the subject.
Now that they have clearly communicated that they'll be skipping it this year to focus on other updates, people will not be nearly so inclined to bitch about it.

so any developer can say a game will have an event yearly and as long as they say something a few weeks before the event is supposed to begin that they won't be doing the event, that's okay?
I think the best thing, in retrospect, was to never say it was going to be yearly in the first place, since clearly it's not something that's yearly.

One more thing: we on the Dota 2 team have a number of updates in the works right now that we’re really excited about, some for the rest of this year, and a big update for early next year. But we’re pretty sure we won’t be able to make enough progress on the larger update if we put it down to work on Diretide – so we’ve decided that we’re not going to ship a Diretide event this year. We know that last year we weren’t clear enough in our communication about this, so this year we wanted to be up front about it early. Next year will bring monumental changes to Dota 2, and we’re confident that when you’ve seen what we’ve been working on, you’ll agree it was worth it.

I'm sort of surprised they are going this way, considering how ridiculous the controversy was last year
