It fits when you read the lore behind the class, they're just from an entirely different section of Sanctuary than the other more cultured classes.

It's important to keep in mind that this open beta is only a Demo.
Here's what I got from it. They improved the graphics from D2 while keeping the same perspective. I've heard complaints that the graphics still look dated, but I'm pleased with them myself. The game play is in the same style of past Diablo games, which I enjoy. They have changed the way that skills/stats work, and I can't say I'm particularly fond of the new system. That has been the biggest disappointment to me so far. By the way, the elective mode doesn't really alter how levelling and character building work. The premise seems similar to the past games, although with such a short preview it's difficult to tell for certain. At any rate, the atmosphere is similar. The focus will likely end up being on farming equipment, considering how the levelling system works. Again, I'm worried about that. While there was a large emphasis on gear in past Diablos as well, skill and stat builds also made a huge difference.
I noticed someone mention the speed of the game, saying it was slow and boring. Past Diablo game have started similarly - it doesn't quicken until you've picked up a bit of gear and have started to get further into the story. I liken the demo to the first Act of Diablo 2 (truthfully, it's shorter). As I said before, the gameplay is similar to past Diablos. I suppose those who haven't played the originals, or never liked them, would not like Diablo 3. Also, if you're not into rpg games, it probably isn't for you (I don't think it will appeal to gamers who only play fps games like CoD).
All in all, I'll certainly be purchasing and playing D3 on its release date. I'm very interested to see how the game develops beyond the demo.

The Diablo legacy and hype will make it a huge hit but the long term playability will die off quickly. I have been in beta for several months and I was one of the people who got passed the locked gates to the other zones before it was patched. I can safely say the game is a "rinse and repeat" cycle all the way through.

Not a chance in the world, Blizzard will take ONE YEAR MINIMUM before they release the first expansion.

How much of that area did you actually play? Because that area was VASTLY different than any other portion of the beta...

Ya'll are getting me down, so I went to check the D3 forums to see what the climate was like there.
Reaction there seems to be a little of this same doubt, and a little of the die-hard players, and a lot of wait-and-see.
However, this section of a YouTube video I found on a thread over there, reassured me that many of the complaints I've read are likely unfounded. (Note: the video is months old and some of the info (e.g. when you can swap skills) is outdated.)
Complaints about reliability of connection right now are kinda dumb (other than general complaining that it sucks)... it's a beta stress test... it's expected.
Complaints about match-making... I haven't tried it yet, so I don't know which side of the debate I'm on for that.
Complaints about graphics... well... if there's enough content, I'll forgive them the lack of polys.

im not a fan of the diablo 3 beta, eveything is so restricted in it. it especially is annoying to be a ranged class and not be able to move independently from shooting your crossbow. just put in wasd jeez!

It's not WoW -__-
Do people seriously not get that? WASD wouldn't work in Diablo.
Comment has been collapsed.
why would wasd not work? it worked in dragon age origins. all i'm saying is that the elements of gameplay that blizzard thought needed to be modernized are the most scrutinized parts ("streamlined" skill system, auction house, cartoony art direction, always-on connection drm) and the things they thought shouldn't be evolved for nostalgia's sake that probably should be (better control system, higher resolution textures, community tools, not horrendous voice acting, character customization, etc) For the record, i don't see WoW as something diablo should be striving towards whatsoever; auto-attack would kill the already floundering combat system, i've already mentioned the disney-ized art direction, and paying subscription fees would also really suck. i think it'd be great to be able to use both of my hands to control my character.

I loved Diablo 2 + AddOn, but Diablo 3 Beta is, I don't know, boring? All the good stuff is gone, a lot of bad stuff is in like forced Always-On-DRM, Real-Money-Auction-House, dumbed down skill-system and so on. And the graphics, they just don't fit, this is not Diablo. This is WoW again, which I never liked because - yes you guessed it - I find it just boring.

Exactly - for multiplayer (and only a part of it). And a lot of people play single player mode as well. Forcing us to connect to the service just so we can play sp mode is stupid and annoying (especcially if one often finds himself away from net - steam at least has the decency to have an offline mode).

Everyone? Well, I didn't and my friends didn't either. Why? Because I played mostly Singleplayer, sometimes LAN, but only very little Battle.net. And that would be the same with Diablo 3 IF Blizzard wouldn't be so stupid to force one to be online to play Singleplayer and doesn't even bother to implement LAN mode. Luckily Diablo 3 is boring anyway, so...
Fortunately there will be Torchlight 2 without all that bullshit.

It's a very small portion of the game with spoilers for later in the game completely removed. You're playing what was essentially meant to be a very early, public preview beta, now turned stress-test.

Nope. They ruined D3 with no world PvP and 4 player matchmade rooms.
Fail.

All the bitching in this thread is so misplaced. If you're not a fan of the Diablo series that's fine, nobody asked you to like the game, or become a huge fan. But a bit of research as to why Blizzard made the design choices they did (NONE of them have to do with the game being ported to a console) may shed some light onto why there's things like only 4 players in a game. Could you imagine 8 on-screen with all those particle effects...?

As a fan of Diablo2 and as a child who had his childhood based on diablo 2, diablo3 is a disappointment so far. don't be shitting on people for their honest opinions.

i'm 18 , i've finished like 5 times diablo(1) , i did diablo 2 on single player then bought org and finished game like 10 times then and when i see things in diablo 3 i don't judge them untill i see the full product , because i've played diablo so many freaking hours that i don't care about graphics and other things kids these days bitch about... gameplay is all that matters , you'll see it'll be fine ...

Do you guys feel cool when you criticize something that's not even released yet? And it's not just diablo. Lately, every game receives a certain amount of whiny haters who act like they could've done better. Just think about it for a moment. A game developer wants to make money, and of course, those money come from your pockets. They're not sitting on their desks thinking "Yes, we can make an awesome game but we won't, because we hate people and we certainly hate their money".
So what if there's a flaw or too? Did they do it on purpose? I think not, no one is that stupid. If you want a change there's little you can do and whining to other strangers over the internet is almost not helping.

I just don't care about that style of game anymore. I played a ton of Diablo II, and got all the clicking on things and getting randomised loot I could ever want. Every game I've played since then with the same feel just felt boring to me since then, and I don't see anything overly appealing about D3 to me either. I feel like I can safely skip this game pretty much... but it's not like I forgot how fun that gameplay was when I enjoyed it. I can totally understand why people are pumped for D3 if it will give them even half of what I felt at my peak of D2 enjoyment.

I recommend after the beta Diablo 3 to everyone, who plays it with his friends. Without your friends, I don´t know, it´s not the same, because you wont talk to each other. It´s like every other game. If you have your friends around you, it´s ten times better.

Why do people think diablo2 was more deeper? You always used JUST two or three skills, all based on your build. On the beta alone, with lvl 13 cap, and few skills/runes available you use way more skills than you did on diablo2.
Imagine at lvl 60 with 25~ skills, passives, and runes. It beats diablo2 any day of the week

To the OP
Skill damage is always based upon base weapon damage. That way all your skill scale with level properly, whereas previously skills 'deprecated' as you went up levels as they didn't scale well.
Personally I think they did well to get rid of stats upgrades. All they did was to ensure you 'screwed up' your build 99% of the time. It also made trying out different styles of playing impossible. So the game is based aroudn teh two things that really matter, skills and items.

Didnt like it.No way to give it 60$.At least its not worth that much money on my eyes.

I agree, once Activision stepped in the picture things seem to have gone downhill. I miss the custom stat and skill building. I find myself leveling multiple levels without vising the skill tree like I am saving up points. As it is now, there is very little anticipation of hitting the next level for just one or two new skills that you are pre-determined.

I played the free weekend, well some of it. I tried a Witch Doctor, and a Wizard...
I don't like it. I liked how Diablo 2 did the skills. I don't like being limited to what i can and can't put on my right and left click....
I don't know maybe it's just one of those things I'll get over but it just really bothers me right now.
Anyone else?
EDIT : I've tried the monk, wizard, witch doctor and demon hunter. So far the Demon Hunter is the only class I like. I guess I'm so used to be able to build my character both with stat points and skills. Versus now, the stats are automatic and the skills are very limited. I don't remember which character but they didn't even tell me how much damage it did. So I can't compare it to anything else besides watching the floating damage. Which is silly. It's obvious that they simplified the game so they can reach a wider audience and I assume eventually release on it on consoles. I've lost faith in Blizzard. Once Activison bought them I was worried, then they split StarCraft 2 into 3 games. Now this.... Not happy at all. :\
