Need Some Opinions

My friend offered to buy me any game on Steam for my birthday (which was yesterday), but it is hard to choose from the thousands of games on Steam. Please give me some opinions on games you like/games you think I should get. Thanks in advance. <3

EDIT I just decided that I don't really want another FPS because I have so many I still haven't played.
Please suggest some really good platformers, though, if you know any. :x

If you like Indies, Bastion + Soundtrack would be a coice you wouldn't regret.
If you want some reckless fun, get Saints Row The Third and make your friend get it for him too.
If you didn't play Borderlands, get it and tell your friend to give you Borderlands 2 when released.
If you want an AAA singleplayer title that isn't another game you'll say "ok" when you finish, Batman Arkham City is an amazing option.

Well... each one has their own style and preferences. I just suggested some stuff based on what I like and mixed with some suggestions.
Just don't get Skyrim, there are better games out there.

Very nice suggestions, you cant go wrong with Bastion, never played Saints Row but it seems to be really fun and polished (unlike the second), also Borderlands is really nice and has a long....life if you could call it that way. Batman i never had the chance, but i'd love to considering how good was arkham asylum.
