I guess when you have a lot of games and you want to play THAT one and you can't remember which platform it is on, esp with multiplatform titles that could be a problem. Clicking through them all takes whole three minutes which you could have spent playing that game, I suppose. ;D

Well I watched history of NFS games documentary and was like, "man I wish I had Most Wanted that I used to play on PS2" and then I checked steam and I don't have it and was like... I thought I had it... and yesterday (a month later) I saw it in Origin... had no idea I had it there... so...

If you go to the link.
This sentence answers your question
"Open source video game library manager and launcher with support for 3rd party libraries like Steam, GOG, Origin and Uplay, providing one unified interface for your games."
Or to sum it up ;) (just shorten the sentence to the important Thing)
Video game library manager providing one unified interface for your games.
Nothing more but nothing less also it is just for convinience.
I will give it a try because i neglect my Games on Platforms simple to much cause the Games at Steam are allways present in my Perception while the games on the other platforms are not.

I like to see all my games in one place - especially for franchises i own across multiple platforms. Steam isn't ideal for this as even if I create a blank .exe to represent the game it still considers it an installed game which can really screw with sorting.
I currently have about 50 games installed through Steam. Disregarding duplicate games GOG, Uplay and Origin would add another 200 or so. Then there's the 100s of other DRM titles I own from Humble, Groupees, Itch, etc. I could add hundreds more if I also want to consider my android games. At that point using Steam's installed view to see what I can fire up and play there and then becomes awkward when there's maybe 10 times as many games listed as there are actually installed.

I have 343 installed only in steam and i know there are better than me :p
going back to topic, now i don't need such tool but think that in some years it can be really important as people can't remember where all his games are beyond some point

No, the only installed games are the Steam ones.
I used to add all my non-steam games to Steam by creating a file named insertnamehere.exe so I could see everything together. The problem is that any non-steam game you add is considered installed. So when viewing the Installed category I not only get the 50 games that are actually installed through Steam but also the 2-500 non-steam games I've also added to the client.

You're probably being sarcastic, for some reason, but I have 1153 games installed and that's just counting Steam and the few games I've installed through GOG Galaxy. My computer is from early 2011 or 2012 and I don't see any point in uninstalling games I might want to continue playing at some point.
I just stumbled upon this software and although I don't really have a need for it I've seen people asking for something like this quite frequently.

Just found this and it seems like development is very active. It's been updated to version 1.3 now. Nothing I'm particularly interested in but I've seen a lot of people asking for something like this.
Edit: Took a while to download all the information for the database. It's about 730MB for around 5k games.

Worthful necro.
I just found out about Playnite today and am impressed. It might be every collectors dream, at least it is something I was looking for for quite a time now.
Is it perfect? No, it is not. There are always things that can be improved upon, of course.
But it does what it should be doing: it aggregates every game from your different clients, from your emulators or manually imported games from different sources. The automatic import of installed and uninstalled games works flawlessly.
And it is open source, so if there would be a backdoor within the source code, I guess it would have been found by now.
In the thread about the new Epic Games store I see many people saying "I won't use this store, I want all my games in one place, this is why I stick to Steam".
So I necroed this thread because Playnite is able to do exactly that.
Me myself, I am buying my games where they are the cheapest. It doesn't matter what client they are on, so my games are spread across many platforms. It can be a hassle to keep track of every game and sometimes, I bought a game I already had. With Playnite, I hope this won't happen again. You can even add DRM-free games to the client.
Give it a shot, I think it is worth a try.

Hmm thx for the headsup, the idea of this software is the right thing!
I hope it will get alot of attraction these days, which also brings more advanced work to it.
The war of Publishers and the stalemate with Steam/Valve could get into troubles in the next years for us customers.
And such a unified launcher would bring us into a neutral position.
I like that alot

Sometimes necro-zombies can be good for you. You can have a 💙, but I'm all out of brains, sorry.

Playnite seems to be exactly what I was looking for...a way to see all my game libraries and collections in the same place so I can check if I own a game before I make a duplicate purchase (I tried Completionator for this but it is complicated and geared more toward console gametime tracking)...and if I choose to, launch all my games from a single launcher (a tad easier but not by much). I own over 4000 games collectively thru Steam, Origin, Uplay, Epic, Playfire, DRMfree stuff from GOG, Humble, Macgamestore, Amazon, GamersGate, the old Desura client, Etc...etc...ETC. Gonna give it a try, see if it's the tool for library tracking I wanted.

Seems like the dev is trying to get itch.io and Epic games and Discord store support. XBL and PSN have been considered as well...

Dunno if i tried this before, but still have to find the one program that does what i want it to do.
But seems to be taking a long time on loading 8400 items on steam alone.
Looking at Launchbox that can also integrate steam and gog, but can't afford it right now.
Comment has been collapsed.
that might be because it is trying to populate everything at once so it doesn't have to later.

Not true. The import is really fast.
What you're talking about is the downloading of all metadata for all games. But you don't have to do this all at once, it depends on how you set it up in the settings.

there is no good comparison. Biggest difference is Playnite is Open Source while Launchbox doesn't seem to be. Another difference is that Playnite is lighter on resources and smaller file size. Launchbox seems more focused on the emulation side, while Playnite seems to be focused more on integration of different clients. Playnite also seems to be focused on PC gaming, while launchbox seems to cater to couch gaming with the bigbox add on. There could be more differences, but Launchbox is definitely the more well known one, while Playnite is the more hobby project.

My thoughts after having tried both is that I like Playnite a lot better in terms of interface and how easy it is to import DRM-free games that are installed. Also, the interface for manually adding a game is a lot better, imo. Just my 2 cents' worth!

indeed I noticed. This isn't an entire direct alternative to Launchbox, and it doesn't need to be.

Discord does this too now. Which has the added bonus of not needing to download another launcher on top of the ones I already had. Also supports games like Minecraft and Dauntless which don't have specific launchers other than their own clients.
Comment has been collapsed.
umm Discord doesn't recognize all of your games I feel

The only stuff I haven't seen is from uPlay, mainly because I haven't got anything from uPlay installed right now. Haven't noticed anything else from Steam/Origin/Epic/Battlenet missing though. Pretty sure it works based on what's installed rather than what you have available across all the clients.
Comment has been collapsed.
Fair enough. Not super bothered about that personally, but that's definitely a nice feature and I can see why people would want it.
Comment has been collapsed.
does Discord let you launch your games through it and track gameplay time?
Comment has been collapsed.
Can launch them though it, not sure about playtime though. I'm leaning on the side of no though, given that I can't see any mention of it. has when you last played it and what platform it's on though. I imagine it's something that will get implemented in the future. They only added the ability to do this stuff a few weeks ago iirc.

With time like these, when you can get games from Steam, Origin, Uplay, Itch.io, Gamejolt, Gog.com, Battle.net, Bethesda.net, Epic Games Store, Twitch, Discord, and DRM-Free games ... [Edit : and Windows Store, and Wargaming ...]
I sure need something like Playnite.
PS : Did i forgot one ? Just curious. Except Desura (Press F for those lost IndieRoyale games ...), i don't see anything else.
Comment has been collapsed.
F - my poor poor desura and IndieRoyale games. IndieGameStand too...
Oh yeah and Stardock.... and yeah probably others but I don't recall the ones that are still out there let alone those left in the wayside.

I'd like to add that I really like how Playnite fetches game info to show a box shot and quick summary for the DRM-free games I bought from Humble Bundle. (I'd been looking for something to help me organize my HB library! :)
I notice that Playnite has really evolved from when they first started, here's hoping it gets even better in the future!

hmmm maybe it's a bug that is being fixed right now (uninstalled uplay stuff isn't being shown now, and battle.net login stuff is being glitchy through API)
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't really understand the question, but if you're just worried about stolen accounts and stuff like that, the code of the software is open source and available on github, where everyone could check it, so I wouldn't be worried.. if you mean something else, sorry ;)

also don't forget that you can enable two steps authentication for Origin too.. it works via email and google authenticator, how you prefer..
last note: I tried to import non installed games from my origin account but I receive a notification error into the program.. this feature does not work for me at the moment..
