Well, there are times when people talk like crazy (or at least were when I used to spend more time there) and times when no one talks for hours. This is just how things are with every chat.

Be as active as possible, and here, it's nice that you give people the game (only public) on steamgifts.

chat usually seems to be active when I join, but I only join when trivia night is happening, so it's bound to be active. I left the group some time ago because reasons, but when I left it was still bustling

I stopped using the Steamgifts chat a long time ago. It's hard to hold a conversation with so many people in the chat at once. You must have caught it during a rare quiet period, unless it really did die that much since I last used it :P
