pretty simple. you get a msg from a friend basically saying hi, then asks for a favor.. wants you to vote for their csgo team. "team quartz", then links to a scam site. do not click the link. check attached pic for more info.

i got lucky that i knew the friend who messaged me has literally never played csgo, so instant red flags, though some others might click the link without thinking twice.

It's very old scam, tbh it's "known by everyone" kind of scam now :D

yeah i know, but i think it's just a new iteration of a classic scam. it's a bot running a script, so thankfully the message they send is always the same. just wanted to get it some exposure so people will immediately know it's a scam without any doubts.

Why is it always with the CS:GO players? I don't play it myself but damn all of the scams seem to be around that game. Thank you for the heads up either way!

i guess since it's one of the most popular games on steam it has a higher success rate.

the worst part about this is that the person keeps messaging stupid shit like "bruh?" and "u there?" like every 30 minutes. it's a relentless bot lol. i didn't really wanna block the dude but i had to.

i don't play the game myself, but I know CS:GO skins are one of the most frequent traded items on steam community market, and some skins can be worth thousands of dollars. So I think the game is often targeted by scammers because how valueable those skins could be.

Guess they are counting on eager teenagers who play the game to just click on anything without thinking?

That type of message is the same as the only thing I ever get as the start of a scam attempt. That's a very typical lead into scam attempt. In my case I get comments on screenshots like that, the scammer wants to start a dialogue with you. After that I assume they just try and give you some kind of run around and sucker you into something.

Look at the profiles of these scammers derp CSGO player, private, low level, very few games or some combination of those things.

Yeah, I saw in a Discord server that people were reporting this too, a stranger will ask you to add them so they can "tell you something really important" and they will tell you that they "accidentally reported your account and are very sorry" and that the only way to remove the ban is to talk to a "steam mod" through Discord (lol) so they can appeal your ban or your account will be lost forever or something.

Every time I've got that message (always in a random screenshot) I've ignored them, and every single time the offending user has been banned shortly afterwards (the very same day) at which point I just delete their comment, so I'd say that's indeed related...

i get those very often on random screenshots i've uploaded. it's just a setup for another type of scam. i just delete the comment and block the user.

Just got another one of these "vote scams" from a Steam friend. Checked his inventory, and it has already been cleaned out. (Poor guy...) I went ahead and flagged him so Steam Support knows his account has been compromised. I also suspended his SG account until such time as he gets his account back.

Remember to pay attention, people. Scammers only succeed when we let our guard down.
