Still, I don't see anything in this article that I didn't know already (except of the block social sites). I am wondering if people from Turkey can access the internet and inform us. :O

Although, to be honest, things were already bad in Turkey, I hope that the army won't make things worse. It reminds me of the Greek junta years ago. That was a really bad situation. :/
Comment has been collapsed.
Hmmm, that wasn't very informative. xD But how do you know it? :/
Comment has been collapsed.
The Greek junta was really bad though. ;_; It happened in the far past, but it shows that a military state is a really bad idea. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_military_junta_of_1967%E2%80%9374

We all know that their government is really shitty, but have you seen any military states being in a better situation?
Comment has been collapsed.
A coup doesn't automatically mean a military junta sticking for decades. Most coups try to establish a standard governing body in some form, this is the only way for them to live through it.
Also… the verdict is still not in on Egypt, to have a recent example.
Comment has been collapsed.
So, you think that they'll take over and then let someone else take over? :P So, do you trust the military? If there was a revolution made by the people, then I would support it, but this is a coup made by the military. :/
Comment has been collapsed.
Dunno, ask someone from South Korea on how their current democracy started in the 80s. :) (Or was it the 70s?) And while there, ask someone from Taiwan as well.
Coups are usually a last resort, but sometimes they are needed. Egypt from recent times is a good example. It is another question if they manage to do something with the chance, but so far they fare better than Syria did.

Many turks are displeased with Erdogan, and I'd imagine they support the coup. As for whether the military will surrender power, it's not unheard of.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yep, like in Thailand. Things were getting so terrible between the two parties that the military stepped in. Wonder if that wouldn't be a decent option in the US. Someone needs to remind the Congress that it's there to govern, not endlessly bicker.
Comment has been collapsed.
Seems like it's not the whole army, but a small segment of it for now. But it's tough to be sure what's happening. It may end up being a coup, but I highly doubt it.
The Turkish army has been unhappy with the current government over the years, so maybe this shouldn't be very surprising.
PS: I live in Turkey and I know as much as you guys for now.
Comment has been collapsed.
I thought that the Turkish people would know more about it. o.O I strongly doubt that only a small segment of the army would try a coup. They are probably many and with a plan. Let's hope that the army won't take over, although the Turkish government is really bad. :/
Comment has been collapsed.
It's impossible to know anything, because as you know armies are very, very secretive about their operations. Especially an operation such as this in which if things don't go according to their plan, they all get executed.
So, I doubt we will know anything for sure unless they make a move and/or a public statement.
Also, it's a good time for anybody to bet against the Turkish Lira right now because it's probably going to take a dive tomorrow.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's why I suppose that it's not only a small part of the army. Anyway, take care. :/

Turkey is having a war with Hungary, and if Hungary wins all that will be left of Turkey is Greece.
Okay. I am sorry.
The info I could find from clicking the first news link about Turkey in Google was: Maybe? The government seems to be denying things and claiming a small part of the military attempted to seize power, but refused to call it a coup...how confusing....
Comment has been collapsed.
The what? xD I doubt that only a small part of the military would attempt a coup. Maybe we'll see many more things during the night? :/

ooohh lol well i could never in a million years thought of it like that i should delete the history lesson above

Hope those guys are going to kill Erdogan that fascist, ignorant, dictatorial, homophobic, sexist, misogyn, unsuitable, outdated, obsolete, inhuman, overrated, god-playing, dirty, no-good, lying, demagogic and negative son of a fucking goat.
oh, I'm sorry.

xD We all know that he's a bad (evil, actually) person, but you should consider that a military state would be even worse.
Comment has been collapsed.
How could it be any worse? They shot down a Russian jet. I don't see a big difference.
Comment has been collapsed.
If right-winged military members will take over, they will be even more bigoted than Erdogan. Life would be better without him, but it surely wouldn't be better with the military being on board. The military would enforce very strict laws and wouldn't even try to hide behind a false democracy. Example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_military_junta_of_1967%E2%80%9374

As bad as everything has been in Turkey, when you step out of your house, you see a peaceful city for the most part, not one infested with tanks and soldiers. When you smell the air it smells like poop, not gunpowder. So it's bad, but it looks like it's about to get much worse.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's what I am saying too. The military will enforce really strict laws. And I doubt that they'll be open-minded. They'll probably be bigots.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not every military is the Greek junta. If you could project one country's history to even its closest neighbours, then Finland would be run by a bunch of warmongering idiots who'd sooner collapse the world economy than say they fucked up something.

I've just heard about it too. They just announced that they took over. :(

The social media got banned. And the army made an announcement that they took over. How exactly is it fake? You mean that the government made it look like a coup was made by the military and then show that they punished them, in order to make everyone afraid of making a revolution?
Comment has been collapsed.
That's what I thought at first. Because the current government in Turkey is notorious for information control and high degrees of manipulation. But the army just released a statement informing everyone that they took control. We'll see if it's real or not in the morning.

Seems like another scenario for Erdogan's takeover for whole country with presidental system.
There was a huge negative reaction to erdogan cuz of Syrian immigrants. He's gonna probably use this scenario for gettin sympathy.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's a Coup. Government knew this was coming so they took over and forcefully fired all upper class soldiers. The Dictator, a.k.a. Erdogan is scared shitless right now. I hope the Coup succeeds and they hang him. I really f**ing hate my government so much ...

Your blessed with a beautiful country but a not so beautiful government that is busy carving out elementary freedoms.

I have friends in Turkey who are to be married this weekend. I would not want such an event to happen at the same time as their happy occasion. ^Prays for Peace^

Normally, I do not mind and I enjoy your comments and humor. But, sorry, that is just in bad taste at this time.

i strongly hope Turkey doesn't fall in civil war, so close it is to Syria and middle east

Meh, humans, while prone to being evil, are mostly driven to actually act to it because of stupidity and ignorance.
In this case, well, Erdogan is a fucking moron (hell, his name sounds like the typical fictional dictator you may find in any short of media), but dunno, a coup is indeed troublesome and will mean that a lot of time will have to past till there's stability. A bit stupid and very uncertain action taken by a group in order to remove a huge asshole from a position of power.

Change the thread title. The army hasn't taken over. Nothing is clear yet.

It's all over the news and they're saying that something like a coup is happening and that the turkish army is responsible. Just wondering if someone from Turkey could enlighten me about this matter. o.O
