Well, let's explain.
First, Half life 1 . Blue shift and opposing force are just some kind of different views of black mesa .
Then, Half Life 2 , and then Episode 1 and 2 . and then (if you're not bored to play again an old HL1 game as you didn't really liked them )blue shift or opposing force. I liked opposing force because of the multiplayer that allowed me to play co-op with a friend :p . But there's synergy for HL2 coop , it's a mod.

+1. I like OpFor best because it had some really interesting gun- and squadplay to it. Blue Shift and OpFor are not necessary, but add a nice elaboration on a great game.

For the original experience play HL1, but I recommend also playing Black Mesa afterwards, unlike Half-Life Source, it's a re-make with upgraded graphics of HL1 and it's free! But its Zen world (last 10-15% of the game) isn't complete in black mesa, that's why I suggest playing original HL1 first (or HL:Source, they're exacly same game except diferent engine version).
Blue Shift and Oppossing Force are diferent perspectives, Blue Shift being of a security guard and Oppossing Force of an army guy, you should play them after you've at least finished HL1 but they're not in the main story, so you can move on to HL2 directly if you want... then obviously HL2 EP1 and EP2... then you wait =)
Portal and Portal 2 are also a diferent perspective games of HL2, it's about Aperture Science which is the rival of Black Mesa, but it's a diferent game as Blue Shift and Oppossing Force are as well... there's also Portal Prelude (I think) which extends the story of Portal even more =)
So yeah, lots to play if you haven't :}

You should buy it.
They are all great games and their are some great mods like The Specalists, Sven Co-op, etc.
Well worth the money if you ask me.
(Also I won Saint's Row The Third from you a few months back)

So I'm one of the few people who completely disregarded the entire Half - Life series, and trust me: many people have shown me the error of my ways. Anyways seeing as I could buy every Half - Life game for $10 today I decided I would, but there was one problem...... there are 8 single player games and I have no idea what order to play them in. I figured I'd start with Half - Life 1, but after that do I go to 2, or Blue Shift, or Opposing Forces, or what? I would appreciate any help you guys could provide.
