Sorry to hear about your grandad. Going through grief as well and it sucks. Make sure to take care of yourself.
'Time of Eve' is a nice little sci fi anime that's on CR. The same studio did a film called Patema Inverted that is worth watching if you come across it.
Not much of a manga reader but enjoying Witch hat atelier, the girl from the other side and land of the lustrious (good anime).

Thanks for the concern and kind words. Sorry to hear about your grief as well.
The way to go imho is to cherish the ones that are no longer here, exalt the good of what they've done for us and people around and remember them with happiness. No sorrows, no pain, no regrets.
I will take a look at the recommendations, thanks for those <3

And happy Cakeday of course! I had to sleep after those jigidies

Happy Cakeday.
While this isn't anime, I'm really enjoying the "Magic Emperor" Manhwa. I check almost daily for new chapters XD
For anime I have enjoyed a lot in the past that you might not've seen: Hikaru No Go, Golden Boy, full metal panic fumoffu (it's a separate season, and funny),
Sorry for your loss.

Happy Cake Day! Thank you so much for the awesome trains :)
So sorry to hear about the loss of your grandfather, I wish him peace and may you & family continue to cherish & remember him fondly for all the joy & laughter he shared with everyone around him.

Thanks for the giveaways and I hope that your cake day is merry. I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather, and while I am not a man of faith myself I do understand and appreciate the importance of family and loved ones. You'll both be in my thoughts this day for what it's worth, and I wish you well going forward.

I'd ordinarily wish you a happy cake day, but it seems hard to have a happy cake day under the circumstances, so I'll offer you my condolences instead. I hope your grandfather's passing was at least an easy and painless one for him, even as it leaves pain behind, as is the nature of such events. May his soul find peace.
I imagine you could probably use a good comedy to lighten the mood a bit right now, so I'll suggest Horimiya (inordinately good high school romantic comedy; the romance aspect has an unusual twist to it, which is the story's strongest point, though it plays second fiddle to the comedy) and Seitokai Yakuindomo (puns and dirty jokes galore, both textual and visual; it can be rather hit-or-miss, but, if it works for you, you'll love it, because it's the absolute golden standard at what it does). If you'd like something else instead, let me know and I'll see what I can come up with.

Thanks a lot for the motivational message, Cassol! And despite it being sad that my grandpa has passed, I don't feel pain. The way to go now is to cherish the good moments he spent with us, to value all the good things he did to the people around him and celebrate his memory. No point in suffering, regretting things and being in pain and sorrow.
Thanks for the recommendations. Seitokai Yakuindomo actually looks awesome, looking forward to giving it a try! Always open for even more recommendations! <3

I'm glad to hear you're managing to handle it well. :)
Now, for more recommendations... any specific genre in mind? Considering the timing, I think there is something that would interweave very well with the comedy. What I'm thinking of mixes a very Japanese story genre, iyashikei ("healing", "soothing", or "therapeutic"; a chill, relaxing, conflict-free story focusing on the calm and relatively uneventful daily life of the cast), with an extremely Japanese aesthetic, mono no aware ("the sorrow of things", or "the pathos of things"; a gentle longing at the ephemerality of all things in life, perhaps tinged with a touch of carpe diem). I know it probably sounds boring on paper, but it's better than it sounds like, and I personally find the heart-warming aspect, which is key to these stories, really good at filling the emotional void that is left once the storm has passed and I'm collecting the pieces of myself that are scattered all over. What do you think?
If it sounds good, I have again two recommendations. Possibly the golden standard here is Non Non Biyori (a small group of young girls of rather varied ages in a backwater rural village goes about playing and basically being children), though I'm personally partial to Yuru Camp (Laid-Back Camp; high school girls go camping, mostly individually).
If you want a harsher story that makes a lot of people cry, Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice, movie; a girl with severe hearing impairment and subsequent heavy enunciation difficulties was bullied due to her disability when younger; her chief bully, who comes to regret his actions, eventually meets her again) is considered something of a masterpiece, and handles disability quite well, whereas Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April; a genius pianist who lost his ability to play due to emotional trauma meets a violinist whose very existence breathes life into him) has moments that are able to simply crush most people emotionally. Having a story force us to cry can sometimes help us process our feelings about sad or painful events, so I figured you might want to give that a try as well.
For something on a different line but still very good, Ookami to Koushinryou (Spice and Wolf; on-the-road medieval-style economics-focused romance between a travelling merchant and, uh, I don't know what exactly she is, but something of a wolf spirit with a wolfgirl form and power over wheat harvests) is a great ticket, if a little unusual. And for something insanely cute and positively wonderful, especially if you like cats, Chii's Sweet Home (short episodes; a kitten gets adopted by a human family and goes around discovering the world around her) is a daily life story close to being iyashikei; I recommend starting with the older anime if you can, though you may have difficulty finding them in streaming services.
Whew! That took quite a bit of thinking! :) All these recommendations take your current situation into consideration, so I'm not picking, say, violent shows, or profoundly philosophical stuff that will have you thinking for a month. I figured it probably wouldn't be the best timing. Still, if you'd like a specific genre, theme, or element (who knows, maybe you're in the mood for fighting robots? :D ), ask away, and I'm sure I can come up with something. By the way, I used the Japanese names for all of those anime out of habit, but I included the official English titles when I know them, provided they're different. Additionally, unless noted, those are TV series with regular-length episodes.

Favorite genres are Slice of Life, Shounen, Drama, Romance, Adventure, School, Comedy, Magic, Historical, Fanatasy.
Honestly, I don't think I've ever heard of the genre/term, but it doesn't sound boring at all. Just as an "escapeade" to a simple life, without any big worries and wholesome. What else could I ask for? :P
A Silente Voice and Your Lie in April are very familiar to me. They will indeed crush you, but in a good way imo. I have the same feeling with Anohana.
To be completely honest, deep philosophical stuff that will keep me thinking for a mont is something that I welcome at all times, since I have the idea that it helps me heal any kind of wounds I might have at the present moment, through reflection of oneself, the world around and its functionality. (Also, always in the mood for fighting robots, hell fucking yeah, Gurren Lagann is the way. And it is one of the most motivating anime out there!)
Out of all your recommendations, Yuru Camp and Spice and Wolf were the ones that got me hooked the most, gonna give them a try soon, put them on the list <3
Thanks for all your thinking :D, I really really appreciate it!

Ah, I remember watching Anohana. Sadly, I don't remember much beyond a few key points, beastly forgetful as I am, but I do recall that it was indeed the crushing type of story.
If you liked Gurren Lagann, perhaps you might want to try Gunbuster and Diebuster? In some ways, TTGL is Diebuster's spiritual successor, and Diebuster itself is Gunbuster's indirect sequel and sort of spiritual successor; Gunbuster is something of a grandfather to modern super robot shows, and Diebuster has both that and groovin' magic and stardust tears (you'll get it). And if you're in the mood for something similar yet different (and without the robots), Kill la Kill is often considered something of a spiritual successor to TTGL in its own right, with high-octane, goofy slapstick and lots of action, though it is rather... striptacular, with people wearing often a lot less than they probably should, for a reason that actually makes sense in the context. Speaking of which, quick word of advice in case this is important to you, but both -buster shows have no qualms about showing boobs, either, though it's done in a natural and mostly tasteful way.
And to try and hit most of your genres at once (all at once is a little hard) as well as I can, consider maybe Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School), which has something of a genius overachieving supersoldier and his equally overachieving sister kick ass and chew bubblegum in a magitech-filled setting a few decades into the future, or perhaps the Toaru (or Raildex) setting, with Toaru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Magical Index), Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (A Certain Scientific Railgun), and Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator (A Certain Scientific Accelerator), each story following a separate middle- or high-school protagonist in a world where magic and superpowers developed by science coexist but are rather at war with each other, with some sort of grand scheming behind it all. Season 3 of Index was way too fast and completely impossible to follow without reading its source novels, I'm afraid.
Incidentally, if you haven't watched it, both Hagane no Renkinjutsushi (Fullmetal Alchemist) shows are very good, to say nothing of the fact it's one of the quintessential shounen fantasy adventure series; they depict the story of two brothers who used alchemy to touch upon what they were not supposed to and were harshly punished by it, and then start to look into a way of fixing what they ruined. The older anime deviates from the (back then still ongoing) source manga after catching up, whereas the newer one has a weaker buildup at the beginning but then tells the rest of the story correctly, so I'd watch both in the order they were made.
For something deeper and that will still keep you on the edge of your seat, look no further than Shinsekai yori (From the New World); I will say about it only that it takes place in what seems to be an utopic world but that could not be less utopic, so give it a few episodes so that you can actually find out what you're in for. It has some jarring shifts in art style in certain episodes, and many have expressed their dislike of the content of certain scenes, so be warned you might be in for a shock that does not relate to the plot every now and then. Word of warning: it is something of a psychological thriller/horror; it has no jumpscares, but the content can be the stuff of nightmares. On a related note, there's also one of the kings of psychological stories, Monster, and its trip into the mind of a sociopath. It's often slow, and 74 episodes is nothing to scoff at, but it pays. Again, the content can induce nightmares.
Meanwhile, for a less deep, less philosophical, less serious, less of an edge-of-your-seat deal that is still quite something of a brain wrecker in its own right, I'd recommend Jintai (Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita / Humanity Has Declined). It's a bizarre, comedic, and light-hearted take on... the notion of the end of the world, of all things. And for the philosophical outlook of a traveller with a talking motorcycle who visits places and just takes the concepts in, never interfering in what she sees, Kino no Tabi (Kino's Journey) is something of a winner. I haven't yet watched the new one, but it's said that the old one is better. And if you like that, perhaps Majo no Tabitabi (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina) might do the trick, too, though it's a bit lesser as a story (even if it looks better on an artistic level).
Now, what follows here is something of a shotgun approach with anime I consider very good at their own genres but often overlooked; they're perhaps not the best or most famous, but they're definitely worth a watch. First off, if you've watched and liked either Baccano! or Durarara!!, consider watching the other one with a very high priority; they're both from the same author and very similar in several ways. And if you haven't, well, give them a shot, too; they're odd and hard to explain, with Baccano! involving immortals and gangsters and insane people and taking place in the US in the 1920s or 1930s or so, and Durarara!! involving gang wars, a headless rider, flying vending machines (yes, you read that right) and even more insane people, only taking place in modern-day Tokyo. Crazy? Hell, yes. Fun? Hell, yes. And while we're touching upon gangs, Black Lagoon tells the story of a run-of-the-mill Japanese office worker who one day found himself first unwillingly mixed up with a smuggler-pirate-mercenary outfit operating from a mafia-ran city in Southeast Asia and subsequently forced to embrace that as his new life... and then became quite good at it.
For more robots, aside from the -buster shows, perhaps Fullmetal Panic! will do the trick? Some form of (kind of magical?) lost technology that only some people can somehow access exists in its world, people are warring over that stuff, and an antisocial mecha pilot from a mercenary outfit is assigned to guard one of those people. At school. And the target he's guarding is a tsundere. The second season, Fullmetal Panic? Fumoffu, is actually not a second season so much as a sort of self-parody, and it's very good, too; the story proper continues with the third season (confusingly called Fullmetal Panic! The Second Raid). The whole thing is pretty funny.
On that note, we shift to a more comedic department. I think Hataraku Maou-sama! (The Devil Is a Part-Timer!) is a good hit; it tells the story of a demon lord who got sent all the way to Earth and has to work regular jobs to survive. It has some quite amusing romantic turns, too. By the way, ever wanted to know more about how anime is made? If so, consider watching Shirobako. It's a positively wonderful comedic slice of life about making anime. And if you like it, perhaps try New Game!, which is almost akin to a lesser Shirobako for game-making, but with a greater focus on slice of life and very little in the way of actual game making. And since most of it is pretty slice of life-y, how about cute girls doing tank drift? Yes, I said tank drift. If that's your thing, Girls und Panzer is your stuff, and "panzer vor" is your catchphrase.
And if cute girls doing cute (and sometimes weird) things (with cute but weird catchphrases) strikes you as a good idea, you may also be interested in the school mystery club of Hyouka with its ever so memetic "ki ni narimasu" catchphrase. But if you want a school mystery without the cute girls doing cute things side to it, there's always Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, in which a student and a ghost try to solve the mystery of the latter's death. It sounds like it's horror, and I seem to recall it has a little, but if I'm not mistaken (and I could be) not so much. The OP has some beautiful imagery, too.
And since we're also going for some weirder shows, perhaps Suzumiya Haruhi? The first season is confusing and has a bunch of different episode orders depending on what suits your fancy, and the second season didn't help by dedicating eight episodes to the Endless Eight arc (watch only the first and last of them, or at most one more from the other six, and ignore the rest; trust me, you won't miss a thing), but the story underneath it is pretty solid despite all the trolling on the part of the staff.
Okay, I'm running out of ideas again. :D What I still have off the top of my head is straight up horror, stuff that panders to the male audience perhaps a little too heavily for a general recommendation, or other stuff that is hard to recommend blindly. I also noticed that you didn't mention sci-fi, so I tried to steer clear from what leans more heavily that way; of course, mecha is sci-fi to begin with, and Raildex has a fair bit too, so it was always a non-starter to try and ignore it completely, but I still tried to not go there too much; if a phone microwave (temp name) that travels in time is interesting to you, I have a few ideas in that department. And yes, the phone microwave (temp name) is a reference to one of my potential suggestions; have you watched it yet? :)
And you're welcome! You know, I think I took over two hours to write this message (and if I count all messages, it's probably about four hours in total), but it turns out I'm actually liking this trip down memory lane a great deal. :D

So very sorry to read you lost your grandpa. Mine was more of a father to me than my dad ever was. I wasn't living near him so I also got the news without having had a chance to say goodbye.
Still, he has taught me so much and made me who I am today and I have remembered him one way or another every day in the 10 years since he passed. I'll be sending some good vibes to you and some thoughts out there into the cosmos for your grandfather and mine.
Nobody who is remembered with love is every truly gone.

Happy Cakeday! Nice of You to do this event!
I agree, SG proves to be a good place for some discussion! The majority is nice here.
Also, VA-11 Hall-A rocks! :) I've made a little digital drawing practice piece with Lil' Miss Bartender. Its nothing special as I sadly barely draw nowadays, but it feels appropriate to show here!
Your profile pic with Sofia always stands out to me, whenever I browse SG forums. :D Loved that game very much! Its good all around, but the OST and overall retro-cyberpunk vibe... man, its something special! I actually went out of my way and bought the game while making sure its not on sale to support the developers with more money.
By the way, are you a member of the "VA-11 Hall-A Hell" facebook group? I am not a very active member there, but its nice to be part of the fandom and see some love for the game. :)

I am not a part of the group, since I've been gone from Facebook for a few years now, but will be sure to join it, just for the occasional snoop around! Thanks for the recommendation! I usually see my fandom needs get satisfied through the game's subreddit, r/waifubartending.
I love your drawing! If you say this is nothing special 'cause you don't have the time, oh boy, I wish I could see the good ol' days! I would appreciate if you allowed me to take the image and make it part of my VA-11 Hall-A collection (and use it as wallpaper).
Thanks for supporting these amazing devs and all of these nice stories <3

I see. Sometimes I wonder why I even have facebook. xD The amount of dumb things one encounters there is... limitless to say the least. But most of my friends keep in touch trough that platform so I guess it stays.
I am glad if You liked my drawing. :) Thank You for your nice words! You can use it however you please! Also, If You are interested, I have a deviantart page. Due to my overall hiatus from drawing, its not updated since 2014 (I only have a few works since then, mostly IRL pencil sketches), but you can see the good ol' days there, as You put it. I'll leave the link here.

The pleasure is mine! VA-11 Hall-A proved to worth every penny!
Although I kinda missed some deeper dive into the phylosophical aspects of a cyberpunk-dystopya (the game touches upon them but dont expand much), but the game is very comfy and compared to the number of people working on it, its quality work all around. What did you like about the game most? Do you have a favourite character?
I am not particularly wealthy or anything, but as far as my finances let me, I am trying to be a conscious shopper. My philosophy may not be flawless, but I am trying nonetheless. Especially when it comes to indie devs, who produce really fresh works of passion and are rarely backed by big publishers.

I'm very sorry to hear about your grandfather. We all have a purpose in this life and I'm sure his was fulfilled, may the rest in peace. I know the feeling of losing a loved one hurts a lot but remember you can always cherish the nice memories you made with him and keep them forever in your heart.
Thank you for still sticking here even though outside events, you seem like a very strong person and that's something admirable. Know that I'm sending you a big virtual hug your way :]
You and I have almost the same time on Steamgifts but I can definitely agree with enjoying your time on here. It's been a while since I interact this much with other people outside of online games, so it's been quite nice.
If I may recommend an anime, I'd go with Wasteful Days of High School Girls. It's a fun anime that'll for sure cheer you up. Manga wise, it'll be a little dark, but I'd recommend Chainsaw Man, the first part of the manga is finished, but it's getting an anime adaptation soon.

This is the way! Don't have any regrets, don't feel sorrow, don't let the pain take over. Always remember them with happiness, cherish their memories and the good experiences they left behind. Always value the things they done for those around them and the good they left behind.
I thank you a lot for your hug and I give it a very big retribution as well <3
Wasteful Days look quite nice, it is now on my list! Chainsaw Man is something that I will take a deeper look into later, even more 'cause he was serialized in Jump (meaning I have access to it :P)
Thanks for all the compliments and wishes <3

Huh, my first year on SteamGifts will be completed on March 5th. That went by fast.
Made good friends here. Got to know lots of different people. Talked about everything you can imagine (seriously, these forums have everyhting lol). I loved absolutely every single one of the community events I participated and/or created and am extremely grateful for everything I've seen the community here do. Community train, all the Halloween events, Advent Calendars and all cake day events! Also, really like the puzzles thrown here by certain members and they blow my mind everytime!
I've been super busy lately with my work (thankfully), so it breaks my heart not to interact with community as much as I did in the past.
Update: fixed the link to Mirror's DLC on its train cart
The trains will actually run a little bit short, since my cake day is right around the corner, but you should still have enough time to join :) Here is what I thought of doing for my trains:
Let's take some of my favorite wallpapers and make them into Jigsaws!
So I chose two images, one for each train, with the help of a good friend of mine, Neomixer. He helped me with the Jigidi choices on my Halloween Train too, so give him some love (or hate, that Myers puzzle was fucking hell). He also helped me organize some other stuff related to my train events. I am really thankful for all that and everything else <3
Now, cutting to the chase, I decided to make two thematic trains for my cake day!
One of them will be the
Anime/NSFW train
The other will be the
Casual train
I will not be saying which train is which. I hope you enjoy the puzzles and have fun with the games if you end up winning. The GA's end on March 7th at 09:00AM GMT -03:00 and are restricted to Level 3+.
Puzzle for Train Nº1
Puzzle for Train Nº2
There is also a special something for my 💙, another copy of VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action! However, you will have to complete at least one of the trains to be able to access the GA. I left the first two characters of the GA code at the end of each train. The last three characters are on this past whitelist GA. Put them together and you will have access to the other VA-11 Hall-A's giveaway.
If you can leave some nice anime and manga recommendations for me, I would love it. Even more if they are available on Crunchyroll (yeah, yeah, I know) and Viz/Shonen Jump. Also, some Overwatch wallpapers are always appreciated.
Do any of you like to compare and see other people's stats on SG? 'Cause I do, so I thought "why not share mine?"
I think I had a good run for my first year. I tried to take a different approach than what I saw the most here. I decided to focus my GAs on unbundled games! So I give less games than most people, but most of the giveaways I do are more "exclusive" (not as common as bundled ones). I hope you enjoy these kind of GAs and the games I choose to give.
I wish you all a beautiful weekend and I hope to be more present in the near future <3
If you are blacklisted for whatever reason, leave a comment and I can give it a 2nd thought :)
I may ask for proof of completion of the puzzle to whoever I deem necessary before sending the games. Be fair and clean y'all ;)
Edit: As of 03/04, I received the news that my grandfather has passed. He was very dear to me, so I please ask you to send positive energy to the universe in his name. Give him a thought, a prayer, whatever you can and believe, please. :)
