Whenever I play multiplayer games I love being the healer. I started with tf2 and recently swapped over to dirty bomb and I love it. The next game I have high hopes for is overwatch. I was wondering if there are any other good multiplayer games out now that have competent healers. They can either be competitive or a MMORPG. I would prefer to have it be on steam and free to play (without a pay wall) but I'll take all of your recommendations. The era does not matter so gun or magic/stalves, I love them both. Thanks :)

Tera went free to play not too long ago, an MMORPG. You have access to pretty much everything right off the bat, it's pretty awesome. The healer classes are Priest and Mystic which are both strong in PvP/PvE. I know Warframe is free but I'm not sure if it's directly healing classes it has or just support classes, i.e. damage mitigation/crowd control.

It's obviously not free or on Steam, but honestly, from a competitive perspective, playing arena in WoW was some of the best times I'd ever had as a healer. Once you get to higher levels, there's a lot to think about and it really challenges your attention to detail and reaction speed. A lot of people complain about imbalance but they're mostly low-rated players. No game with large range of classes is ever going to be in any way balanced, but things will improve anyway with the next expansion as they're planning to segregate PvE balance with PvP. But anyway, Tera would still be the best alternative to WoW as it's free, I just never got in to it as much so I can't vouché too much for it.

Thanks for the recommendations. I have played warframe but there is no healing element sadly.

There are healers in Warframe like Oberon and Trinity. There is support meta aswell but idk, it works different of what you're looking for because you press 1 or 2 buttons for healing and that's it.

Btw, my best times as healer were in WoW and Ether Saga Odissey, but the second one is pretty dead right now (one of those disposable games made by Perfect World). Edit: Just readed that ESO will be shutting its doors on January 4th, 2016.

Star Trek Online is an MMORPG that features Science Officers, who can heal and buff.Engineering Officers can be built as tanky healers, too.

Honestly, very few people build healers though since 90% of the game is PVE and DPS is extremely crucial and there's a lot of universal healing skills and equipment for the three classes.
Most PVP is done within your fleet against one another.

If you're looking for a team based game STO will only disappoint you, the only time people team up is for raid style instances. Normal content you're on your own most of the time unless you have friends who play and want to team up. The game is almost TOO solo friendly, and it's gotten even worse since perfect world bought the company (cryptic) that has the license for it, power creep and cash grabs abound now. The only thing that could've been worse is if nexon had bought it.

The only MMO I could really recommend would be Dream of Mirror (http://store.steampowered.com/app/335820/), but it's from 2005 and hasn't really aged that well. I played for years when aeriagames hosted it, but can't really get back into it because the UI is still absolutely terrible. It is a HIGHLY social MMO though and healers are always in demand, the job system is also the best I've ever seen. If you can get past the clunky UI and goofy cel shaded graphics you might enjoy it.

That's been the exact opposite of my experience, but I also got into a great, friendly fleet. That makes all the difference. The only thing I do solo anymore are the main episodes, and that's by my choice.
I tried it when it came out, thought it was crap. Tried it when it went F2P, didn't stay involved very long. A few months ago I was curious and asked a couple friends who play, one of them since launch. They convinced me to give it another chance.
I also haven't 'spent a single dime of my own money to buy Zen, and have a very good selection of end-game gear for both my characters and ships.

It's like almost any MMO experience:Find a good fleet(guild) of friendly, helpful people or you won't enjoy the game that much no matter what the setting may be.. I say that being a proud Trekkie.LLAP ;)

Yeah, I had a fleet like that but most of the people in it have stopped playing because of the increasing power creep and cash grabbing. That and exploration being removed instead of revamped, cryptic took the lazy way out and used player created content to fill that hole. A lot of the missions that are linked to in game areas aren't even that good.

I'm genuinely sorry to read that your fleet has broken up, that's the crucial thing to have fun in any mmo imo.
In a way I feel lucky that I'm getting back into it after having lowered expectations. True, there's a lot about this game that isn't very Star Trek, like the sheer amount of combat ("Does anyone remember when we USED to be explorers?"-Capt. Picard) and the fact that there needs to be a more open-world, open-exploration feeling to it all.
I've taken a sabbatical from the game myself, busier with rl and work and wanting to play other games but I know I'll be back.

Most MOBAs have healers in one form or another.
Heroes of the Storm's Lt. Morales is a pretty extreme example that springs to mind quickly. (Not on steam obviously, as it's Blizzards' game so it's only via Battle.net)

I have usually stayed away from mobas because of the community. Most times it is hard to get in because there is so much hate towards new players

Killing Floor 2, I like to be the medic there, so I can say it's pretty satisfying. Dont know why i didnt enjoy the same perk class in the first killing floor, but in the number 2, i had a good feeling with it. Check it out whenever you can ;)

Not free to play, but Natural Selection 2 has a healing class on aliens team called a Gorge and the marines team has the commander that meds team members. Really fun, but it's a game that you can't just jump into and know what you're doing (it has quite the learning curb).

Anarchy Online a old MMORPG but great. Free2Play but has subscriptions too for extra content. Class you want is 'Doctor' :)

Dungeons and Dragons Online is an older MMO, but it's free to play and has some interesting classes. Cleric remains one of my favorite healer classes, and unlike other MMOs you can level two (or three) different classes, so you can do a half healer-half caster or whatever, so it's pretty fun and if you want to modify your play style some.

You could be a healer in guild wars 2, sorta. I don't know how is the game actually, because there has been a lot of changes and I haven' played in more than a year.

Another recomendation. Witch Doctor, Dota 2. You are a doctor and a witch and a reaggme purple man. Also half naked.

Also, there is a new game in steam called "devilian", its korean but the guys who bringed it to EU and NA are the same who bring Archeage (and made Rift and other MMOS). Its basically a "fast, quick not paced at all diablo" with MMO UI and quest + sidequest system.

Planetside 2. Actually that is the class players advise you should play to grind creds(in game currency) to get better weapons.

The Tales series has healers in them. For example, in Tales of Symphonia there is a female main healer called Raine and she is pretty useful and OP when used right. Basically all the Tales games has healers

I loved playing the Cleric in Fiesta back when the game was still good :'(

But yeah, as mentioned before, you'll find a healer in pretty much every mmorpg :)
