PC > PS4 > Xbox because it is always online, always draws electricity, packaged with Kinect for casual gamers, and fails after 3 years

I don't know how I feel about this. :|
I already have a PC, I don't want another one. Damn it MS! I want hard copies of my console games; I don't want to download them. :\
And /always/ connected? My internet craps out half the time; does this mean that if I loose connection I can't play? This shit is even worst than the PS4.

If you console...only few friends of mine will like this. Thanks! Will pass this info to them.

Always have to be connected...well fuck you too microsoft

Great! I always wanted to install a camera and microphone of some company in my living room!
Well, if all these things are true, it is "bye bye Xbox" with the next generation. I´m a PC-Gamer at heart anyway, but I always got all of the consoles too and in fact used my X360 almost as much as my PC, while PS3 and Wii where mostly covered in dust.. since Sony doesn´t do this shit with their PS4, Microsoft is pretty much killing itself here (if the customers are smart enough that is, we´ll see). But yeah, gaming will survive! If all else fails, we still have kickstarter! ^^

Always on, kinect required to use, no playing from disc, switch to blu-ray discs, always connected to the internet... Yeah I'm never getting one. Those just turned me off from every owning one. I hate kinect with a passion, never use xbox live, and was looking forward to backward compatibility.

And nobody uses 3rd party programs with Windows 7... let's face it, Microsoft sucks at making features customizable. For me, I used to use a 3rd party program to get a task bar on my second monitor. Windows 8 does that naturally. Now I have to use a 3rd party program to bypass Metro. I traded one 3rd party app for another, an in the meantime I get significantly faster boot speeds, significantly improved task manager, it's a bit more resource friendly, Windows MSE (now Windows Defender) comes standard, and can update through the normal Windows Updates, and Windows Updates themselves are less invasive and more user-friendly... just to name a few features. Some people really hate the Metro UI, and can't stand that they either need a 3rd party program or to click one extra time when they boot. But while Windows 8 has problems, I think a lot of the hate is unfounded. That's my opinion, at least.

How very nice of you to point out that many people use third party programs on Windows 7, that was completely beside the point.
My point was, did MS make Win8 RTL worse than the beta by removing the built in ability to bypass the MODERN (not METRO, it was Metro in the beta) UI.
I myself use Win8 and Win7, one on my laptop and one on my desktop pretty much equally, and I like Win8 (Ijust do not care much for the Modern UI in a non-touch environment) as I (like you) find it to be a little bit faster than Win7.
Comment has been collapsed.
It wasn't beside the point. My point was that all versions of Windows practically require some 3rd party applications. And it's only Modern UI quote-unquote "temporarily", while they settle a legal issue with another company. If they settle it favorably they'll go back to calling it Metro. And since almost everyone knows it as Metro, I call it by that name. Since you clearly understood what I meant, I'm assuming it's working.
Also, I assumed you meant Windows 8 was better / the same as / worse than Windows 7, because that's what most people compare it to, and you didn't actually specify what you were comparing it to. So if you were comparing it to a pre-release version of Win8 then this entire discussion was based on a misunderstanding.
Comment has been collapsed.
Lol, yeah, the comparison with Win7 is totally not what I meant.
Since this thread was about the new Xbox, and info surrounding it.
My comment was comparing Win8 beta with what actually came out to, info [leaked, factual or not] about the new Xbox to what it will actually be when it gets its official announcement (or even release).

Assuming any of this is true, keep in mind that unless it is unplugged the current power brick still draws power - not a lot, but it does. Also, I'm not sure I want a device drawing more power than what it does currently on a constant basis - remember those fires caused by the original Xbox PSU...?

We all know what the new Xbox is about. Isn't that right, ScrewAttack?

Always online seems extreme. Since its a rumor i feel alil skeptical but i guess it is a possiblity.
When i play on my PS3 i'm usually always online and in retrospect it probably wouldn't matter to me if i'm forced to do so. However it does feel like some kind of silent violation of my rights as a gamer.
As someone who got the first 3 playstations it would take a real big shove to swap my fanboy ass when the new consoles come out.(i cant really afford time/money both i got to choose one). I'll wait and see maybe they got something up their sleeves.

So if I'll close my internet conection I'll get a shitty "Waiting for connection" message......?

Okay, so all I see is yet another news article with no source detailed. You know, just because everyone on the internet is posting the same news doesn't make it suddenly a fact. Just like your mom used to say "If everyone were to go jump off a bridge, would you do it as well?".
Comment has been collapsed.
They do actually state a source.
Butt-hurt Elitest's such as yourself should take time to read more carefully before jumping down people's throats.
No where in anything I posted was anything ever treated as "fact", I merely showed a link to an article below an ambiguous statement [of disbelief/outrage].
Any thought of "fact" was created in your head.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, they state a source, that leads to an article that gives no source for their information. It's the same thing being published all over the place but does not lead back to any reliable source we can verify.
Comment has been collapsed.
That is what is known as not wanting to get fired for a violation of one's [or the company one works for] NDA with Microsoft.
If I had an employee leak something [like said info] I would fire their ass in a heartbeat for putting my business/contract in jeopardy.
That is very common with technology leaks.
Comment has been collapsed.
Just because you can think of a plausible explanation for why there is no source does not make it any more a verifiable piece of information. Thus, it is a useless piece of gossip, not information. Some gossip may be true, but since it cannot be verified and there is plenty of false gossip floating around that far outweighs the few true bits, it is irresponsible to give any weight to that kind of thing.
Comment has been collapsed.
The gossip you are speaking of, is called speculation [a form of information, just as gossip is] that is based on information (sometimes of unknown [unreleased] sources) put forth by a technology information leak website, sounds like information to me, but alas, I have not a small mind.
And nothing I said, or in the articles have ever been stated as "verified", nor was that implied by what I said, nor by the articles.
Good day to you. =)

The articles uses confident, declarative language. This is the language of fact, or what the author wants to convince readers is fact. Your use of exclamation marks and your assertion of having "new info" likewise speak to having facts to share. In neither case is that accurate.
Speculation is most certainly NOT information as it has no verified foundation. Gossip might be argued to be information in some imprecise colloquial sense, but that means little. In either a philosophical or a legal sense, neither speculation nor gossip are forms of information.
You can keep your thinly veiled insults to yourself along with your condescension.

Uh, my exclamation marks have no relevance to fact, hearsay, fiction or fallacy.
The exclamation mark is a punctuation mark usually used after an interjection or exclamation to indicate strong feelings or high volume (shouting), and often marks the end of a sentence.
spec·u·la·tion
conjectural consideration of a matter; conjecture or surmise: a report based on speculation rather than facts.
Synonyms
supposition, view, theory, hypothesis.
These are forms of information when passed along to another.
They may or may not be factual, but they do meet the requirements of "information" when presented in said form.
Good day.

in-for-ma-tion
the communication or reception of knowledge or intelligence
a (1) : knowledge obtained from investigation, study, or instruction (2) : intelligence, news (3) : facts, data
Since, you readily admit that speculation is not grounded in facts (and in fact is contrasted to facts in your definition), and since facts are explicitly equated to information in my definition, I think the picture is clear. What's more, any sensible person will see that one cannot receive "knowledge or intelligence" from speculation.
Comment has been collapsed.
LMAO, someone does not truly comprehend.
You do realise you in fact made my point.
"Knowledge and Intelligence" (in said form) is not necessarily fact and can be conjecture and speculation of the person(s) giving said information.
Every numbered bullet in a definition are seperately a definition of a word (even when they may seem counter to another definition).
Comment has been collapsed.
I realize that definitions can be mutually exclusive, but under both relevant definitions (note I did not point out definitions such as those explaining "information" as it is understood in a computer science context for example) speculation does not hold up as a type of information.
However, by no means is speculation an instance of knowledge or intelligence being relayed. If I speculate that Bigfoot exists, that is different from saying I know Bigfoot exists. One CAN report the fact of speculation; that is that speculation of a sort exists. However, as I stated prior, the evidence points instead to the article, and you, reporting speculation itself as fact. There is the absence of qualifying language, for instance.
Comment has been collapsed.
As soon as you pass your speculation [it may/may not count as information to you] on to someone else, it becomes information to that person (whether it be good or bad is inconsequential).
Third parties, relaying information [from what has been a reliable source] which is made up conjecture/speculation derived from a limited amount of information/data provided (by an industry insider) is information just like it is in the "Intelligence" communities.
Nothing is actually "Fact" until a new Xbox is in one's hands {yes that even means the announcement, when MS makes it, is not necessarily what you will get].
In Computer Science terms, it would be relative GIGO [Garbage in garbage out].

"Butt-hurt Elitest's such as yourself should take time to read more carefully before jumping down people's throats." Maybe You start read more carefully? Tell where is the statement that say "You can't use your console off-line"? I'm realy not sure...
Comment has been collapsed.
I read and comprehend very well, thank you very much.
I never said anything about, [quote] "You can't use your console off-line", my original post was a statement of the articles headline "Next Xbox will be “Always On, Always Connected”".
In the future, please remove head from sphincter before making a foolish reply.
Good day, and enjoy your pie!

If the device never shuts off, merely sleeps -- it is always on.
If a device requires an internet connection for constant program updates, social updates, DRM, achievements and so on -- it is always connected.
Now exactly just how dumb are you?
=)
Comment has been collapsed.
Hmmm... That's a good point, let me think for a bit... Oh wait, my mistake, it's absolute bullshit. "If a device requires an internet connection" Where it say that it's requires? It's optional! Do you know what that word means? It's means possible but not compulsory. You are that dumb that you don't even see it, so this discussion is over. Live in your imaginary world where you are the smartest person in the world I do not want to have anything to do with it...

Ok.
So, should I say ...
To take advantage of all the new features of the new console it must remain plugged in (and on) and be constantly connected to the internet, and that you must also accept that the Kinect feature [as of this writing] is a compulsory feature.
*many games and features will not work [as expected] when you power down or unplug system and or disconnect from the internet, other problems may arise ...
yeah, ok.
That being said, this is early/non official information and as such should always be taken with a grain of salt.
Smartest person in the world ... that would be nice, but alas, I am not.
Thank you for your lively discussion, good day to you. =)

Realistically, this is exaggeration.
Always on internet - In the same way that Steam is always on - More stress on games that will be tied to your account, as Minecraft and such are currently.
Required Kinect - The original Natal concept had it's own processor. The new Kinect will probably be the same. What they're saying is likely that voice commands will be built into the OS and Kinect will be bundled with every NeXbox, it only makes sense that even games that don't use the camera will wanna tap that CPU.
Cumpulsory Install - See also Forza Horizon. The LOAD TIMES unless you install.
