If anyone was wondering, the coupons can only be used on games released prior to Jan 02, 2012.

Don't be fooled into thinking you can save them and they'll be worth a ton come time CS:GO/HL3 releases. And most importantly, do not trade for them if you don't have them unless you want a current valve game.

Also keep in mind the coupon cannot be used during the sale, and can only be used AFTER January 2nd 2012.

Well said, I was thinking this was probably the case. But do you have proof? People like proof :)

They can only be used though Jan 2nd - March 1st, so you can save them for CS:GO

Except, as the picture states, they cannot be used on games released after Jan 02 2012.

Excludes titles released after Januray 2nd 2012. I don't think we'll be getting CS:GO before that day.

On another note, that was my first gift, unless I misunderstood, I'm supposed to get another one for looking at this one? I haven't.

Yeah. You misunderstood. You don't get a gift for looking at your inventory. The gift is in your inventory after you open the page where it tells you to look. Even if you didn't look at that point, refreshing would have shown it as completed.

First achievement.

Check your inventory - you've got a gift! - A Mobius Achievement: simply go to your Steam Inventory and see what you got, then we give you something else just for looking for that.

The way that reads, you're supposed to get two gifts: one from the get-go and a second for looking in your inventory. Though, with the errors, I guess it could be possible that I lucked out and accidentally got two gifts...highly doubtful, though.

Yeah, I got two on my main (33% off Valve, 50% off Blocks That Matter), but only one on my alt. On the other hand, the one gift I got on my alt turned out to be Portal 2, so one of my friends is going to get lucky if they don't all have it.

Have to admit I thought it was a pretty lame gift (33% off Valve title) - worse than the current 50% off, can't use it until Jan 2, can't use it on games released after Jan 2, what's the point?

to... give you a discount on a game?
If you don't want it, don't use it. It's a free coupon.

I do think it's meant to be the worst of the coupons (the valve ones). Given that they provide less a discount than valve is offering right now without a coupon.

At least it's tradeable, maybe you'll manage to offload it on someone else.

Not quite the worst. I managed to get a 25% off Valve coupon.

If there are discounts on the games AFTER January 1st, when the Winter sales end. The coupons can't be used prior to January 2nd.

I don’t think so, Tim!
It would be 75 - (75 x 0,33) = 75 - 24,75 = 50,25 % off.

Eh ?
You pay more when you use the coupon ?
That doesn't make any sense. Instead:

  • A 75% off coupon means you pay 25% of the price.
  • 33% off means you pay 67%

0.25 * 0.67 = .1675
You pay 16.75% of the total price. Meaning 83.25% off.

I think he meant on Steam sales. On the other hand, I highly doubt they'll make sales for the games we have coupons for past to 2nd january. Or else, well, we'd probably get the games for free.

25% off any one title on Steam listed with Valve as the publisher.
Excludes titles released after January 2nd, 2012.

-Gives away coupons 50% or less on all valve games as one of the awards you can get.

-All Valve games are already 50% off or more for Christmas sale.

-Can't use coupons to go with discounted games as they are only valid after Jan. 2 to March 1.

-Any new game coming out after for Valve would be CS:GO (probably)

-BUT WAIT... the coupon does not affect any Valve games coming out after Jan. 2.

Summary: WTF STEAM?

Edit: Apparently "Golden" coupons can be used during the Christmas sale, but I haven't heard of a single person who's been lucky enough to get one.

Even if you combine the coupons, you can never get anything free. A 50% off coupon stacked onto another one would still just be half off of half price, or 75% off. Basic math, bro.

The coupons are just Gaben trolling the internet again.

25% off of games that are already 50-75% of, you can´t use them during the sale and you can´t use them on games that are released after the sale. Meaning that the only way to use them is find a game you want, NOT buy it with 75% off, wait until next month, and then buy it with 25% off.

Trolololo.

Agreed.

I don't want to have to seek out other players and deal with trading just to get things I might want.

I know Valve wanted this one to feel like there was some luck to it, but maybe they coulkd've given, idk, a choice of several different coupons?

coupons = crates

actually it's worse, since crates don't take "drop slots" in TF2, but coupons do take "gift slots" in this event
