Hi there,

I won a game (on this site) and received it.

However, the guy who sent me it said it may not work through Steam but it might actually be an Origin key.

I've tried to activate it through Steam and it doesn't register.

What should I do?

I'm not really sure if I should activate it through Origin, since this is 'Steam'gifts.

Thanks

Also, is there any way of contacting support on this site. I tried to find it but I couldn't.

Activate it and mark it as not received. :3

Contact the creator and let him know, and if he doesn't get you a steam key mark it not received in a week.

Tell the gifter that the key isn't Steam. If he can't or won't give you a Steam redeemable key/gift, then you mark it as Not Received after a week.

Depends what game it is, I think there are a couple of Origin titles that are allowed to be gifted...

Oh ok, I knew there were a few games at some point. I think I've seen Minecraft giveaways at some point too. Thanks for correcting me.

Really? I thought it's still available. Any info why it's not allowed anymore?

This is just a wild guess, but it probably had something to do with being unable to sync Origin accounts, and so people winning multiple copies, or saying they received the game, and boosting CV.

What matters is you got the game. If you're really bothered with it, contact support.

FYI, this website is called STEAMgifts.

Nope, it has to be Steam redeemable. If he marks it as Received because "what matters is that he got the game", he might get in trouble later on.

Nope, because if he mark it as received and don't have it activated on steam he can get into troubles.

And then get suspended for not activating his gift?

All he has to do is take a screenshot showing he activated it in origin and they will lift the suspension.

... and suspend the creator and delete the giveaway instead.

If it is Rift, it is more than likely one of the keys Raptr gave out. Those aren't for the Steam version of the game, they are for downloading it at the Rift website directly.

1 - Use the key through origin and mark it as received.
2 - Don't use the key and mark it as not received.

The choice is completely up to you. If you're worried about having it marked as received but not showing in your steam library, just take a screenshot showing you added it through origin and if the question ever comes up, just show them you used the game.

Try it in Origin or mark it as not received but to be honest I would never give away an Origin game here but I think I would mark it as received if it worked on Origin, sure he broke a rule but he still gave the game, I can't really hate someone that much for that...Idk.

And then someone stalks your account, finds a non-activated win, reports you, everyone dies.

^this.

Best to speak to the gifter and offer him/her a chance to either purchase a Steam version for you, or contact Support and see if they are able to delete the erroneous closed giveaway.

Failing that, you're better to mark it as "not received". This is STEAMgifts, and the rules are very clear about giving away non-Steam games. There's no point opening yourself up to a possible suspension and/or being refused entry to groups/giveaways as a result of having a dodgy looking profile.
