Most of those heroes have rather depressing back stories... I wouldn't want to live through any of them!
(Tony Stark needs the power core to live, Batman has his parents murdered, Superman has his world destroyed, Wolverine's surgery and other stuff, Deadpool's insanity, Hulk turning into a raging monster, and I'm pretty sure Captain America was frozen for 40 years or so... )
That being said... I wouldn't mind some of their powers... Regeneration could be nice.

That's true but who said you have to live through the back story. When I imagine becoming a superhero I just skip all the bad stuff and put the outfit on :)
