Hello, I am new to steamgift.com, I have had 1 giveaway that was successful and the method I used was to purchase the game in steam as a gift after the giveaway ended, and email it to the winner using the email for their steam account.

I recently won my first giveaway (yay!) and I received a key for it right in the 'giveaways won' section.

My question is how do I go about getting a key for the giveaway so I can use this method, essentially eliminating the need for email.

Thank you in advance for the help!

Buy games from other shops. Not Steam shop.

They are retail keys from third party sellers like Humble Bundle, Green Man Gaming and a bunch of others. Also you can usually buy direct from the developer which gives them more money.

Purchase games on other distributors than Steam, such as Humble Bundle, Indie Gala, Green Man Gaming, etc.

You can't buy games on Steam and get codes. You can only gift games bought through Steam via email or trade. Keys come from if you buy a game that activates on Steam through an online store other than Steam.

Actually, you can purchase the game as a gift on Steam and store it in your Inventory for later. Then, after a giveaway that you do where it is a gift, you can just add the person as a friend on Steam. Once they accept you can send them the gift directly. This is the method I do for my giveaways, so I let everyone know of that fact in the description of the giveaway.

Yep. I generally do exactly that. But OP was asking if he could generate a CD key to attach to his giveaway if he buys the game through Steam though, which he can't. I'm assuming he doesn't want to have to add random people who win his giveaways just to give them what they won, which Steam forces you to do if you want to trade with them or email it to them through your inventory like in your case.

That is a good point. :)

I just thought I'd give the OP an alternative just in case (I prefer sending it the friend/gift route rather than by email. Just in case the email isn't valid anymore). The key route IS the best, but unfortunately for me Steam is the only method I can get the games.
