Can I change my password for one I have already used in the past?
I want to use Idle Master (a program that makes it look like you are playing to get cards), but I think it must be for stealing passwords, as when I used for the first time, my facebook and origin account got hacked both from the same place the developer says he lives.
I would like to change it to a temporary one and then back to the one Im using now.

I've used Idle Master for years and have never had an issue with it, the source code is public and anyone can view it.

I doubt very much that this was the source of your misfortune.

If idle master is stealing his password, I will eat my hat.

and using a temporary password is safe because...?

idlemaster is fine.

Probably because he uses the same password in a thousand sites and he could change it to a unique one.

Steam password doesn't have company policies. YOu can change it back and forth between '123456' and 'password' if you want.

You can't change it to such simple passwords as it will complain it's "too weak".

Does it prevent it though? I know it used to complain about weak passwords, but many sites do. Apart from my internet bank, I didn't have any that didn't let you actually use it. And I use strong passwords out of habit, so didn't saw that window for a time.

Yep, it does prevent you from changing your password.

Is "tooweak" too weak for a password? I wonder.

Making a Steam app that steals Origin passwords would be some Saturday morning cartoon villain level incompetence.

You don't have to steal Origin password if it's the same as Steam pw.

maybe you got a fake "idle master"?

I've been using it without problems

Basically like everyone else said before, never have I ever had any problems with Idle Master o_o

Not sure how a temporary password would prevent "hacking" though tbh.

He's probably using the same password for all his accounts and since idle master is related to Steam it probably hijacks the Steam password first. Therefore, hijacking a different password than his other passwords is useless. And hi!

Well, alright, that makes sense. I wouldn't use a temporary password for steam then but just change it completely. Using the same password for multiple accounts is just.. plain dumb to be honest.

I have the same password. But it consists of several random information in my life(around 5-6). But I use different combinations for every account.

P.S: It consists of 15 characters, devided between 3 symbols, 4 numbers and 8 letters 2 of which are capital.

Is it possible to make password with spaces? I thought you are not allowed to use space most of the time.

Some services will let you, but the point made in that comic stands even if you can't use spaces.

It doesn't matter how complex it is, if one of the sites you use it at is compromised then all your other accounts that have the same login and password are potentially compromised as well. Database leaks are a very common occurrence and some of even the biggest companies and websites have horrible security practices to this day.

I highly recommend using unique, random passwords for every single site you use, and to accomplish this with trusted offline password management software.

I'm using Bitfender Internet Security 2016. It offers a password generator as well as memorising your passwords. It has a feature called Wallet where you can store all your Internet information including banks and passwords.

You should probably use it then and have unique logins for all your accounts, although if it stores the data in cloud my preference would be an offline solution.

Permalink

No it's not a cloud-stored. It's stored in my own laptop and also encrypted with a password of my choice.

Keepass is an easy offline solution for this. (using password+key option where the key is not stored in the same place. And if you want some extra security, make sure it's on an encrypted partition itself.)

Any cloud-based password manager is just waiting for it to get leaked due to bad security policies and/or human error from the people at that company.

Same answer for you. The wallet is stored in my laptop and encrypted with a password.

That's a good solution too then :)

Well, everyone has their memory capacity. You are right in the sense that free password managers exist, so now it is enough to remember one long password for that (and another one for the email account the manager is tied to so you can reset the password if you forget it) and just let it handle the rest.

I think Archi's Steam Farm is much better than Idle Master.

Anyway it much better:

  1. No need runned up Steam client for ASF working.
  2. ASF automacitaly stop farming if you going play and start if after if you forgot.
  3. Also you can hide your farm process in Steam status.

But its only my opinion. I'm use Idle Master more than year. Now i farm with ASF.

  1. I can run it on server for example.
  2. But it is very convenient, not important who is to blame, additional value.
  3. You can be away/offline on Steam, so friend don't write you when you are idling.

  1. My server is running 24/7/365.
  2. This has no logic, normal people can surely manage without computer at all, or without car, or without electricity. Any improvement is an improvement.
  3. I want them to write me, but when I am using the PC, not when I am out and it seems I am playing a game, but I am actually idling. I don't want my friends to be confused when I am not responding.
  4. Yeah, me too mostly. Just bored and whatnot.

Is this an advantage? I've earned card drops while playing a game and running Idlemaster at the same time.

Good if you are going to play on a VAC-secured server =)

If you have multiple games running, it decreases/stops drops for some users. I don't know the formula, but it can shut down things.

Yes it advantage for me. Farm takes much much longer if you play in same time.

Permalink

It's slower, yes, but stopping the farming...stops it. Unless you're playing a game that still has card drops, which I'm usually not.

I have few games with 15+ hours farming for get all cards. It takes so long only if you play in same time. I don't know how the Idle Master works for you. But i'm use both programs and know what better for me.

that spare click for closing make for you faster the farming?

No need to think about this with ASF.

I mean, keep doing what you're doing, I don't care. I just don't think not farming at all is faster than temporarily slowing down your farming for the same period of time.

I'm not gonna address Idlemaster.

What I am going to address is you using the SAME Password across several different sites/accounts. Don't do that. If one is breached then they are all breached. I mean sure you can have a general one for throwaway sites you don't care about. But for anything you care about or that has financial implications, don't. They don't need to be MASSIVELY different, but different enough someone isn't gonna guess it, or at least not easily.

Also, for sites that allow you, 2FA.
