Hey people,

quick question. It's been a while since I stumbled upon a game that's censored in Germany, so I wanted to ask what my best course of action is here. I'm interested in finally playing VtM Bloodlines since I keep hearing about it, but Steam wants to sell me a low violence version.
Is there another place where I could buy an international version? Humble Bundle Store doesn't say anything about low violence, but I think they usually sell the same version you'd get on Steam. GoG sadly doesn't have it.
Afaik I could trade for it? But that would take quite a while with the wait times now, right?

Thanks a lot!

I thought Germany censor violance a lot anyway i am sorry for your problem but i am a big fan of bloodlines so i want to inform you that still to this day has a modding community active there are many mods to improve the game or make it silly in my opinion anyway i am not sure if it exist but try to type bloodline mods and see if there is one made that gives back the violance for countries that have that

Also tbh i didnt find the game violent ok it has vampires and other monsters but its mostly dialogue and fps combat with a lil blood

Luckily they stopped censoring as much as they did in the past (+ I'm playing a lot of indie games lately that don't even get rated at all, so that's a plus). But a lot of older games are still censored because at that time Germany censored a lot. Bloodlines, as I've seen now, at leasn't hasn't been butchered completely. Only a little change in the intro. Still annoys me, as I'm highly allergic to any kind of censorship. One would think adults would be able to decide for themselves if they've got the stomach for something and not need someone telling them what they can or can't watch/play in their free time.

I see, thanks. Still annoys me, as I hate censorship, especially when it's already only for adults. But alright.

In order to really enjoy the game you should install the latest unofficial patch for the game; so you may want to refer to this thread, where they talk about the issue with the cut content in the german version: http://steamcommunity.com/app/2600/discussions/0/540739860807594635/?l=german

You can also buy a ROW-copy of the game on g2a.com or sites like that, but you would still have to patch the game. Really, it's that important!

Jeah, I also don't like buying cut games, even it's just a little video scene. I just want to emphasize that it's still a cut/broken game in it's ROW vanilla state. So the cut content of the german version is just the tip of the iceberg.

One option is to buy the CD / DVD (can't really remember the medium and I still have the game somewhere!) version from eBay or Amazon. Just be sure to get the non-German version :) After all the game doesn't use Steam if you buy the retail version and as far as I know there is no difference between Steam and non-Steam; both can be patched with the newest unofficial patch etc and neither has any special content.

Yes I know, most of us want to have the game on Steam library but I'm only telling one possibility to get the international version :)

What is up with censorship in Germany anyways, I see so many giveaways here that can't be activated in... Germany only. Makes you think their government is screwed up.

Yeah, violence gets censored a lot. Luckily, with a lot of indie titles (that don't get rated at all) and generally less censorship today than 10 years ago, it's becoming less of an issue.
One positive thing is that we don't have issues with nudity at least, so no censorship in that department.
(Also, pretty sure, Australia is worse with their video game censoring/banning overall.)
