Hello. I recently won a game from a user however I was given an invalid key to redeem on Steam. I have left a message on the giver's Steam profile.

My question is should I mark the key as "Not Received"?

Yes, if giveaway creator does not provide you with a valid key in 7 days.

Okay, thank you. Is this reported somehow to the higher ups?

No.

Interesting.. If this is the case, what is stopping users from posting false giveaways?

Losing giveaway slots and being unable to post them anymore.

Also if you have too many not sent games you'll eventually get suspended.

You start with the ability to create 3 giveaways and you gain 1 extra slot for every 3 games you give away that are marked as received. If someone marks one of your giveaways as not received you will lose a giveaway slot.

so you can't create GAs when you are at the beginning and you got 3 marked as not recieved?

Basically, but in general you would probably be the one at fault in that situation.

well, i just got 1 marked as not recieved, but that was, because i messed up with the humble bundle-gift-links, since then, i'm getting the Keys

There's still quite a difference between losing one slot to a mistake and losing all 3. If you mess up once, that can happen. But repeating a similar mistake 3 times? :P

well i once messed up again, but the person who won, was cool, he told me, the key was used already (i got the keys from my co-admin in my group) and i asked my co-admin if he got another copy of the game, he gave it to me and the person had his game, and that was after almost 2 weeks

keep in mind that we're talking only about new users - for4 every 3 GAs created and delivered you gain 1 extra slot, so in your case 86 delivered GAs mean you got 28 extra slots, 31 slots in total, and if you messed up just once (no deleted GAs) you have 30 slots left - so one more mistake wouldn't mean you cannot create any more GAs.

now let's imagine new user - he makes 3 "mistakes" in the row without any successful GA - blocking him ability to make more GAs seems like a good idea, huh? Prolly 4th GA would end up being "mistake" as well ;p

yea i understand that ^^ but everybody can do mistakes, but the earlier, the more problems you may can have ^^

and i just got 24 slots (got 10 open GAs and can create 14 more)

then you must have deleted (or support deleted) some of your GAs as well ;)

And while sure - anyone can make a mistake - do you really want to get flooded with non-moderated, non-restricted flood of FAKE GAs?

nope, and i deleted about 5 GAs cause of false information, but i haven't created 86 single GAs i created a few 2 copy GAs

what matters is the number of dellivered game keys/gifts not number of created GAs ;) For exdample - if you make 6 Copies GA and deliver all games - you will gain 2 GA slots from a single GA. If you delete 2 Copies Ga - you will lose 2 GA slots, not just one :>

oh, then i maybe know why i just got 24 GA-slots and not 31 like you said ^^'

I think that's correct. If you send your first 3 giveaways and they all get marked as not received, you will lose all 3 of your giveaway slots and you can no longer create giveaways. Then you would have to contact support, explain the situation and ask for them to give you more giveaway slots.

I would imagine they would give you a second chance if you didn't understand how the site worked and give you at least 1 giveaway slot. Then you would have to create giveaways 1 at a time until you have successfully completed 3 giveaways to get a second slot.

Ended 5 hours ago. He has a week to investigate the problem.

First, remove the link as that is considered calling out and can get you suspended. After 7 days mark not received if a working key was not provided.

It can be a mistake, you should contact the creator and inform him/her.
If that's not the case and you don't get your game, then yes, mark as not received.

Yes. In the OP I mentioned that I left a message on his Steam profile. Is there a way to send a message to him through Steamgifts?

Yes, what JustArchi said. Some people don't want such comments on their public profile.

Give it time. I had run into this 4-5 times, when a key I sent was invalid. It got resolved eventually every time. When you juggle hundreds (or even thousands) of keys with giveaways and trading, mistakes can happen.

I love it that we can't prove if the key is valid or not. So that some users (no names because of rules) can ask again and again with the reason "it was invalid". You can't prove anything and the only possibilty is to give him more till he is satisfied.

You can prove it in a roundabout way. Either a screencap of a fresh purchase, or, if you have the game itself on an account, a screencap of trying to activate it. In this case the key is rejected because of already existing, and remains usable. But a duplicate key takes priority over ownership, so a used key is immediately obvious.

Does the key have the correct format (or does it maybe just miss the first or last digit - might have got cut off when it got copied)? If so, let the dude know by commenting on the giveaway or try to add him on steam.

If its just 1 missing symbol, it's always an option to just guess instead in case there isn't a timely response.

not really - after few failed attempts Steam will block you key activation for several hours - and even if you paste a good key in this time it will not accept it. It's protection against key generating bots.

You have around a 1/3 chance of getting it right before getting locked out, so in the worst case you just need to take a break and try again later.
Not being able to input more keys immediately isn't the worst thing that can happen, if you get locked out for a bit just continue with the remaining possibilities in 3 hours.

1 hour, I believe.

more than 1h I believe, like 2 or 3, but it may have changed - last time I got locked was like 2 years ago when someone posted pastebin with few hundred keys and most of them were duplicates before I joined the party ;p

Last time I tested my bundle keys (back in Spring), I got locked out multiple times, for an hour each time.

I think it depends on certain factors. It was one hour for me too, but my cousin got blocked for 3 hours because it was the second or third time it was happening for him.
