Yes it is worth the 60 bucks. Like people have stated, it does not have a subscription fee. So even if you get bored down the line you can always come back later and not have to worry about dropping another 15 on a sub.
Just take your time with the game and enjoy it. Don't be one of these people on here that claim to have a lvl 80 cause all they cared about was maxing their level. Those type of people get bored of every mmo regardless of content.
You could spend 60 bucks on some single player game for xbox, beat it in 2 days and still claim it's worth the price tag.

Yes, a hundred times yes! I'm getting it next week, as well. I played on a friend's account and I just can't see how there's any other choice but buy it.

I'm in the camp that thinks one can spoil the game for themselves.
It was a recurring theme in several reviews I read (about a dozen official reviews and 30 player reviews) that one can get bored of the game, that content is sparse. The latter doesn't concern me - ArenaNet will release more content, doubtless. But would the game become boring? Several others responded to that idea by claiming that the OP was "playing it wrong," that they weren't in it to explore and play and just have fun. And, having owned the game for a week already, I see both sides.
I got a little grindy this last weekend. I tried levelling a little quicker, rushing from point to point, and focusing on piddly achievements. And it did indeed get boring. But when I go in and try to unlock some map or explore or just participate in local events and go where the plot carries me... Well, I was having fun again. So I have to agree: don't come in here with expectations of rolling through levels quickly and upgrading your gear at all costs. If that's the kind of game you like--always pushing forward, always ever-incrementally better, grinding and levelling--then you may grow bored.
But if you want to explore, try new things, interact with the world, discover new recipes, and tool around with a huge variety of skills to see what you like... then you might like this game.

^ THIS!
I have been playing, a lot, exploring every corner of every map, getting to grind ingredients to try new recipies for my craftings, and just doing whatever shows in my map, I'm having fun. But then still level 52 and only have 46% of the world explored.

MMOs are never much fun for people who are trying to "beat the game."

I really dislike those people and it was always the reason I avoided guilds and grouping up - I wanted to take the time to read the quests, explore dungeons, etc. - they simply wanted to run and gun their way through every damn thing. Also, if you hadn't been on some Wiki telling you exactly how to spec your character, they didn't want to be bothered with you - what the hell is the point of playing any game or MMO if I HAVE to use the same cookie cutter spec as everyone else instead of doing it how I want it...?

It is definitely worth the money. Even though I got bored of it, I could always take a break and come back to start a new character. I have one maxed out character and I'm currently bored of it since I'm waiting for Borderlands 2 and Torchlight 2. It is still definitely worth it, spent over 150+ hours on one character alone.

I think GW2 is a lot of fun, but I also think it lacks focus. Your story (the quest line) won't level you as fast as the quest level rises. You will need to spend quite some time levelling otherwise, through exploring, crafting etc.
Personally, I love to explore areas and get all points of interest and vistas and all that stuff. But if that's not your cup of tea it probably gets boring quickly.
I also think it's not quite as epic as a lot of other MMOs out there. The quests are pretty short and you're send back to town after pretty much every short mission to get approval for the next bit instead of storming on heroically and get shit done.
I also feel the quests kinda miss the save-the-world grand scale of importance. It always feels to me that anyone could do what your hero does (which of course is true, but I usually like my MMOs more P&P RPG we are super special kind of epic.)

180 hours logged in now, and I missed the head start and official launch day.
Is it worth the money?
Absolutely if you like MMOs even a little bit. I've paid less than 30 cents per hour for this game, and without monthly fee the price/hour ratio looks even better every day.
Is it the perfect MMO?
I wouldn't go that far, it has annoying things and in the core it's just another grind fest. Having no healers/tanks/dps was a bold move but unfortunately they didn't bring much else to the table, so every character feels more or less the same. They have a lot of fresh ideas and I do enjoy the game in general, but without some serious changes and new (interesting) content I don't see myself playing it 6 months from now.

Aye, it seems they were aiming for big changes in multiple areas but kinda dropped flat in each halfway trough. Breaking trinity is good but it brought new problem that classes do not feel that different from each other. I think this could be tweaked with a different pacing in combat system.
Other was dodging and moving in combat when they tried to make combat more dynamic. It works partly but still way too often combat reduces to just staying put and ramming skill buttons into table.
