They're making a shitload of money. If that is being a moron, I wasted my time going to college.
You launch the game through browser? Seriously EA how stupid you must be?
You're a bit late, man. That hate train left in 2011
Comment has been collapsed.
They arent making money. Thats why the CEO stepped down. IMO Origin is part of it as I havent bought a single EA game since.
The hate train for Origin or the silly ways you play BF2 or Sim City has never left the station. Its stuck there.

Weird stuff sometimes happens. Steam has changed its language on me two or three times. Paypal credit card payment window changed to some language I didn't recognize one time, and it was a right devil trying to get it back to English because I couldn't find the US in the country list. (I eventually found Australia, switched to it, which put the list in English, which allowed me to find the US.)

Okay EA is retarded, but those are not the reasons.Using a browser makes everything fast and clean, I'm not saying I support that but it really doesn't make any difference for me.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well everybody has to launch it that way. I agree it's weird but it's not a problem for me. Not sure about the language issue, sounds weird. Maybe restarting the client helps, dunno? I think the relevant thing is the game itself. Sounds to me like you've found another excuse to hate EA because it's cool.

bf3 uses a web launcher because it handles all the stats and for browsing for games... its no different than any other game run through steam requiring an additional launcher (of which there are a fair few). origin is, like steam, just a drm/download platform.

I like how most of us probably agree with the thread's title, but OP has all the wrong reasons.

i actually tend to find its EA thats the smart(er) one, and the gamers that are the morons. i mean who is really more idiotic... ea for supplying, for instance, shitloads of crappy dlc? or the gamers continuing the DEMAND the dlc, and continue to show the willingness to pay for it. i mean if a bunch of crazy morons were throwing money off the top of a building yelling TAKE MY MONEY, wouldnt you go get a bucket to catch it in as well?

Battlelog annoyed me at first, but I did get used to it in the end once the loadout feature actually started working properly.
The only thing that annoys me is not having any kind of menu screen in-game where you can change graphics etc. You actually have to be in the middle of a battle to do it which is reaaaaaaaaaaally frustrating.

French indeed, and a badly translated one (no mistranslation, it simply sounds stupid the way they made the sentence).

I've got the same problem with the language. I live in the Flemish part of Belgium, and when I open Origin on my browser, it's always in French. I hate it so much that I have to change this everytime I visit the website. I have no problems in the Origin client.

Ok here's some screenshots: http://i.imgur.com/CoK5aKw.jpg and http://i.imgur.com/SrXjQHP.jpg
Please explain.

Second image is website language, not client language.
Same like Steam, Origin does load its website into the client interface.
Your issue is, that their web services set the display language based on your IP.
For some reason they recognize you as French.
Comment has been collapsed.
To be honest, i can't really tell.
In this thread, people report, that they can't change their shop langauge (which is also profile language) either.
Some are on vacation in a different country and can't shop at Origin for that reason.
Go to http://whoer.net/ and see what country your IP belongs to.
Not sure if that works, but you can try to launch Origin through Proxifier
However that'll slow down your Origin downloads depending on the bandwidth of the proxy.

I can't believe origin website still wont let you set the language, is something people have been complaining for years. They just detect your ip and set the language for your ip country. And I agree launching BF3 is dumb as shit. You even have to close the game to change servers, I mean how hard would it be to just put a basic web browser inside the game and still use http stuff for server browsing.

Hey, EA does something I'm not used to, they are so stupid, hurr durr.

I was talking about the BF3 thing.
And what are you talking about? what geography has to do with you post?

I have encountered it before, the browser based system and to be honest I find it really bothersome, opinions though I guess.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, I found it abit bothersome at beginning as well, but it's like that with almost anything completely new, and you think about it isn't that different from just game launchers, and it actually has few advantages of its own. I would hate the idea of all games being like that, but when it's just a few exceptions then it's pretty good.

Guess I am just stubborn :-/.
Not sure I like the game enough to get use to it to be honest, it seemed alright enough, maybe when I am bored ill try again.

ijji.com used to do it to launch games. They didn't have any clients back then. You could look up your game stats, browse the shops, check your rankings, browse the forum etc and when you decided to play, just click on Play now button on the main page. It was pretty convenient. But then they got the Reactor client and removed the ability to launch from the site.
The fact is, having a client and still having to launch from site is pretty stupid.
Comment has been collapsed.
You do realize launching it thru browser, is basically just like game launcher, here it just goes thru a browser. And I don't see people hating game launchers.
Comment has been collapsed.
To be honest, I like launching through a browser. If you want to check your stats, missions, server settings, etc. without launching the whole game, you can do that. Besides, if it was any company other than EA, would everyone hate it?
Comment has been collapsed.
I agree that the browser launch is incredibly idiotic. I was really confused at first. I just want a real client!

I'll just leave this here... See the one about the breathing apparatus.

Companies can pay the family a settlement which will usually be more than they'd pay in court plus the family doesn't have to go through an expensive / time consuming trial. The company, in turn, gets to keep the whole thing off the public record and safely under the rug. It happens more often than you'd think
Comment has been collapsed.
Happens with EA all the fucking time. Negative exposure? Don't reply. It'll blow over.
Recently the SimCity fake citizens debacle, the server stability and general performance... no one is talking about it anymore, for EA won't say a word.
And people wonder why I haven't touched an EA game in 3 years.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'll play EA games on Steam. Because then I have a reliable platform to play them on, and I trust in Valve to protect me if the game is legitimately broken or whatnot. I won't use Origin or any other EA service to launch a game because I have no faith that EA is going to protect me. It's all about risk management.

I don't know the details on the EA - Steam breakup, like everything else its being kept rather quiet. Now the problem arising here is that we only have the old EA titles on Steam, nothing of the new stuff.
Yet, despite being years old, none of those games have had their prices reduced to the normal standards. Alice Madness Returns still costs 49,95€ in Europe. Most/all other titles haven't had their prices reduced since the aforementioned breakup.
Even that game is, while playable, still an unfinished product. American McGee recently spoke about patching the game, but EA wouldn't allow him to touch the assets they own. For the record, this is the same for both the Origin as the Steam version of the game.
Not to be all EA hate here, (while completely justified) but Steam doesn't have a clean track record either. Go check why Anno 1404 isn't available for purchase anymore for example.

I got Alice: Madness Returns at 75% off, got Deadspace 1&2 bundle at 75% off, got Mirror's Edge at 75% off, got Bulletstorm at 75% off. The sales are probably not as COMMON as for other publishers, but they definitely do happen. And if you mean just base price reduction, that's true of a lot of publishers. All the old EA games I see are $20, and that's about the price point I expect for a good, older game (naturally I wait for the 75% off sale, like a good little Steam user). It may be different for Europe, but in the US it seems pretty normal.
I don't know what you mean about Alice being unfinished, and was not aware that it needed a patch. I know that the Steam version is missing some DLC you can get on Origin, but while that's a little annoying, it's not going to stop me from playing the game. I actually beat Alice all the way through with no trouble and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It looks like Anno 1404 had trouble because of Ubisoft's typical DRM bullshit. Which is a bit of a separate issue, but I see your point. You still have to be careful if a game uses Steam AND another DRM, and as far as I know, none of the EA games on Steam require additional DRM. Anything made by Ubisoft, however, I research pretty thoroughly because they have a shitty track record with DRM.

Most if not all of the story is fake. People can say what they want. If you have someone who needs a breathing apparatus to live. That is marked on your home and the electric company will work with you to figure something out.
The reason being, if they shut off your power and your family member died. You could sue them big time.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ah, EA damage control has joined the topic.
Not every country is America where you can sue over microwaving your pet monkey because the manual didn't say you shouldn't. Even if they sued the power company, EA's name would be kept out of the matter, where the cause is not the effect.

I don't know if this is true or some creepypasta but either way... woah D:

Since the EA humble bundle i decided to start using origin for BF3.
First of all, BF3 launching is sooo stupid. You launch the game through browser? Seriously EA how stupid you must be? Why the hell i need origin then?
And secondly. How the hell do i change origin's language? Why i get french, dutch or whatever this language is i don't even know. I set the language in origin client ENGLISH GB or ENGLISH US, i get english almost everywhere but somehow my account and privacy page is in different language: "Mon compte a propos de moi". Featured today is in the same language too.
