So I'm tired of the generic "good guy/girl" movies, wanna watch something that the main character is prob manipulative and maybe a genius that doesn't want to be nice and put up with bullshit.

Not asking for a villain or complete asshole main character though, just one who doesn't kiss everyone's ass or is the overall "good guy/girl". Thanks in advance :D

Edit: got a nice list up here, watched Hard Candy, Mememto, The Professional, Kill Bill so far! Thanks so much SG community for all the awesome suggestions :D

Just wondering, in the summary - "Jeff denies the accusation, and Hayley begins to torture him in a cat and mouse game."

Hayley is the cat right I hope I didn't get that wrong?? :P

Yes, she's quite a "kitty." (it's a reference, Ellen Page played Haley in Hard Candy and Kitty Pryde/ Shadowcat in the Xmen movie.)

Korean thrillers in general.

Fight Club, Taxi Driver, the clint eastwood westerns...

Love Exposure

Takeshi Kitano movies, especially Brother.

Crying Freeman.

The Life Of Others.

Barry Lyndon, kinda.

Waltz with Bashir.

Captain Conan.

La Haine ( the hate )

City Of God.

Korean thrillers are really great... just watch the Revenge trilogy of Park Chan Wook. It contains "Sympathy for Mr Vengeance", "Oldboy" and "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance". Please be sure to watch the original Oldboy from 2003 and not the remake with Josh Brolin, since it really is trash.
There are many more and i really just name the best here... "I Saw the Devil", "Memories of Murder", "Mother", "A Bittersweet Life", "Internal Affairs" and "New World"

Internal Affairs is Chinese but I think the rest can be categorized as Korean thrillers. I can't never recommend Oldboy enough.

Note: though most of the mentioned movies are violent and dark, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance have certain trigger warnings that can be really uncomfortable to watch. Saying them out loud would give away the movies but be prepared when you are about to watch them.

Also I would like to add The Chaser where the protagonist is a pimp who hunts down the man who killed his call girls.

+1 for Revenge Trilogy and The Chaser

So many good movies are non-hollywood. Also many of these come from asia and are not kung-fu ones.

I seriously think season 3 is made just for fan service....so many moments that would make girls on tumblr go cray cray but not many that made me intrigued like the first two seasons. I admit Magnussen is one scary bastard but a good villain is not good enough for a series like Sherlock.

He doesn't really fulfil the genius criteria, but Clint Eastwood is a complete badass. A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More are mandatory, as is Unforgiven, as is Dirty Harry. Likely The Good, the Bad and the Ugly too but it's been ages since I've seen it. Gran Torino for something more modern.

No Country for Old Men, sort of. He's not really evil or that bad, but kinda hard to say he's a good guy. Also, the film has such a great yet uncomfortable scene to watch. And a really bad haircut. I mean, really bad.

Can't believe noone mentioned this one yet, perfect example of what you're looking for:

Bad Lieutenant (1992)

and

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans (2009)

In the first Harvey Keitel plays the lead, in the latter it's Nicolas Cage. Both great movies with definetly not "good guy" cops.

Apropos Nic Cage, Lord of War obviously. Doesn't have the dark tone of the Bad Lieutenant movies, it's much more satirical but still definetly not a good guy.

How can i explain it.

The bloody/gore cinema got new standards from this movie. How bad it is, depends on how you look at things.

The movie has a excuse of a story, it was just to make it. so, you wont be trapped by it.
Regular/bad acting.
Blood, seriously.

The second movie its a "remake", they made the first movie with practically no money, they wanted to make it right. The second takes the excuse of story of the first one (less characters though), and it expands it.

And there is a weird thing that happens here, while the original movie is gore/horror, the second one it does try to follow the steps of the first one, and at some point, intentionally or not, the movie gets so weird that is comical. in a good way. An anti-hero is born here. <---The best i have seen

Then, you get to the third one, the real jewel of the trilogy. It kinda drops the gore (still there, but there wasnt much to work with, you will see), it completely ditches the horror and adopts a fully cheesy slaptstick comedy. Very weird set of movies, but they were directed by Sam Raimi (RIP).
