A.I is good for practicing timings, builds, and stuff like that. I think that unranked mode is a lot better though since you are against actual players.

I haven't played HoTS, but I was fortunate to have a real good friend (mid masters) to practice against in private in vanilla SC2, actually to the point that all I was doing was playing with my friend and bypassing ranked matches altogether, it's more fun that way since you're competing against someone you know (and you also don't have to deal with all the sore winners/losers (terran is imba1111 xxxx has left the game)). So what I'm trying to say, if you have a friend who is better than you, pester them to play with you, great way to practice since they can help you by offering constructive criticism, and they can also learn your strategies by repeatedly playing you and adapt their own strategies to exploit your weaknesses, helping you to close up gaps in your strategy, etc.

On my 2nd campaign playthrough. Had to go back and play WoL again because some of the things I forgot years ago (ie Tosh). SC 2 is osom!
