drop down menu's not displaying choice [SOLVED]

I recently had to reinstall my OS, but now when I open on of the drop down menu's on SG it looks blank until I actually hoover over a choice
what did I forget to install, it is not flashplayer or silverlight

Are you using any kind of theme in your browser or OS which changes text colours?

Yes I am using a stylish theme for readability, dark blue or black
