Kaleidoscope Century by John Barnes had quite the impact.... also Tactics of Mistake by Gordon Dickson as well the rest of the series by each of those authors.

Both are fairly short, but if they grab you, they both have many more books in their series, and their authors have a few other interesting series as well.

Another great book written by an author with multiple series that are quite enjoyable.... Dragonsong by Anne Mccaffrey

It's a fun conversation topic that reminds me of some books i've never gotten around to reading.

For the past couple years i've been reading the Light Novels of all my favorite anime.

Will be interesting to se what other people are reading. So here's hoping we get more suggestions of good sci-fi!

So, which one the girl would choose, blue pill or red pill?

To be honest, this puzzle is really hard.
I rarely pay attention to lyric when listening to foreign music.

(!) I've reworked some things on Aug 9 to address the "too many red herrings" issue.

May I ask if there is any change in the short story text since its inception.
I fail to spot any change since I saved it to my notepad some days ago.
I still don't have any clue so hope that these changes could bring up some hint.

I did look at those "places" but didn't notice anything of interest.
Now, with the available hints, I can confirm that there is something.

clarification, are we supposed to "fill in the blanks" with song titles? (in a way the sentence is complete)

or are we supposed to guess the song titles based on its lyrics from the context?

if that's giving too much away of course you don't have to say :)

I feel like I have found song titles from the given year that fit perfectly but none of them get accepted hmm. Are you sure that you've copied the answers correctly and didn't accidentally put an extra space in there somewhere? Happens all the time with 2solve.

Maybe I'm just on the wrong track, will come back and try again later when you add more hints!

Frankly, it was difficult, πŸ€”
I couldn't do it.πŸ˜–
It might be helpful to some if you could tell me if the string contains or does not contain "spaces".
Or is there a case that must be unified with either upper or lower case to be correct?

Thank you Puzzle(οΎ‰Ξ˜`)<So hard!

Are we talking about well known songs?
Also I believe I have read all of those books except for Stations of the tide.

Would like to add
Voyager A Canticle for Leibowitz, by Walter M. Miller Jr.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams
The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, by Robert A. Heinlein

Very interested in this one but havent found the audiobook version yet.
The Three-Body Problem, by Cixin Liu

Nope, I miss that one.

2/5 btw, slow progress.

Edit: giving up with the search by song/album method, it takes way too much time. I think I see where I could start for an alternative way to solve it, but even knowing 2 of the answers I can't seem to find a connection yet.

It's fine, really, I'm not going to brute force it, I'll just wait for the solution if you're willing to share later.
Scifi recommendations? Lots and lots but it really depends what you're most into.
Space Opera? Techno-thrillers? Alternate reality? Time travel? Cyberscifi? Speculative fiction? Futuristic dystopian?

How else do you expect people to find the songs if not going through lists? The answer for 3 would not even have been in the top 10 of what I would've guessed what to fill in there ;)

And to go through dozens of rock albums released in this years is also very tiresome. :)

If we only consider Sci-fi, I would vote for "The Dispossessed" by Ursula LeGuin or "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Heinlein.

Wild Seed, The Mote on God's eye and Solaris are also really nice less (?) known titles.

From the list, Hyperion in my favourite.

I think I have an inkling about how to go through this puzzle, will test it tomorrow. For now, a bump!

I'd say the book that broke me the most was Guards! Guards?, but all of Discworld would count in a heartbeat. Sir Terry was an outstanding writer, and is dearly missed.

I.. Don't really know about Bill, but after looking it up, I have to say it looks like a lot of fun.
Discworld books are... Hard to describe, as satire IS a core part of their DNA. But it could not be, and they'd be amazing anyway. Pterry wrote wonders, and while all of the books are mostly comedic, a lot of genres are also covered. I do need to mention, they are more of a fantasy setting than cyberpunk.
More than being satirical, I'd say he played a lot with all the tropes he could think off. All books have, say, a main plot and a background plot (which was often the reason of the main), but sometimes you can feel all of the different plot threads interwoven. It's always mind blowing to me; even when rereading.
He loved to play with words and tropes and literary devices and punctuation and little margin notes and his work is splendid.

If you ever want to try it, do let me know! I'll try to recommend a good starting point.

I would recommend "My TP list" app for Android to get a better idea in what order it is better to read the books. There are several ways people always recommend but my recommendation is to go by dates when books were issued. You can see filter settings on the screenshot :)

My problem is that I encountered a lot of red herrings following the hints. Plus my tendency to overthink didn't help.
I have only the 2nd one left to guess at the moment, but I still don't get what that alternative way of solving the puzzle is supposed to be, since I've got 2 answers the hard way and other 2 thanks to things that weren't even there yesterday.
