it would be cool if you could create giveaways for steam wallet / gift card codes...

would you like to see this implemented if possible?

I'm not against the idea in theory, but how, other than giving no CV, would you avoid CV abuse?

i dont see a problem with getting CV for it or even it getting abused, of course the code should be delivered directly through steamgifts.
since it would work as described above, the NOT received button should be immediately available for that category of GA.

But if I mark it as received, how will you check that I actually got a code from my friend (or alt account) the giveaway creator?

if i understood your meaning, that form of abuse could be avoided by raising the minimum entry requirement for that GA category.

Considering some of the groups here on SG, and their behaviour... I think you would need a darn high number for that to work. Either that or only give CV in public giveaways.

That's not the point. There is no way to check if the user redeemed it to his account, so user X could make giveaways worth $5k for wallet/card codes only available to his 5 friends, they all mark as received even though nobody really got anything and bam, he's level 10 with 0 hassle.

I don't think SG can see if the card is used or not, so I doubt it can be done. But the idea isn't bad.

Apart from the nigh-impossibility of verifying activation, the wallet codes could even be used by malicious users to steal Steam accounts.

not sure how someone could use a simple wallet code to steal accounts, if that is possible, wouldnt it be possible with game codes/keys aswell?

Wallet codes are one of the first things Steam support ask when trying to retrieve an account, after login info and payment methods.
So, if a malicious user actually stole the login info of someone who didn't add a payment method, they could "invest" into a $5 Steam wallet code, and claim that account as their own.

Looks like easy way to abuse for CV.

Thought there is a somewhat cheap way to get unlimited CV, too.
