Milkmaid of the Milkyway
Gorgeous point'n'click adventure that rhymes with pixel art, great atmosphere and soundtrack and a unique setting: Norway in the 1920ies, all made by one guy alone.

Great idea for a thread-- thank you. I've already added both of your suggestions to my wishlist (already had Edith Finch there).

Why am I dead at sea
A really nice PnC/ Murder Mystery party on a boat, where you're... a ghost who tries to find out how the hell you ended up dead. Thanks again to Adelion for the discovery btw.

I found some weeks ago that there are some gamebooks on Steam. I was aware of the Joe Dever's Lone Wolf game (which has nothing to do with the books), then I saw House of Hell in my discovery list.
I haven't played it yet, but I played The Forest of Doom and it was really pleasant. House of Hell looks even better.
It's probably quite easy to make a game like this, and the scenario exists since the 80s, so it may not be the n°1 game to support, but still, I think it deserves more than 4,318 owners. And it's cheap (1.99€ now).
Comment has been collapsed.
The Lone Wolf game has everything to do with the books, it's the same setting and Dever even worked on it. It's just not an adaptation of an existing book like House of Hell or Forest of Doom are.
(Anyway since you are mentioning gamebook adaptations you might want to take a look at Inkle's Sorcery. Tin Man Games also did lots of gamebook adaptations but sadly most aren't on Steam.)
Comment has been collapsed.
Agreed. The Lone Wolf game picks up where the books left off. (You'd need to have played the books to know that, however.)
+1 to Sorcery! If you enjoyed the books, you should enjoy the game(s).

You are retard:) Here, here. You can suspend me again and feel good about yourself .
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm confused. Books #4 and #5 are part of the original Kai series, and this game seems to be set while Lone Wolf was a Grand Master Kai Lord and rebuilding the Order. That would put it in the Magna Kai series (books #6 to #12) at the very earliest. What did you actually mean?
Comment has been collapsed.
It's noted on Wikipedia and the dev states the same on the games forum. The source linked on wikipedia is dead though so I can't follow that up for further details.
Edit: TV Tropes says
The game is set somewhere during the Kai era, after the events of the 2nd book Fire on the Water.
Comment has been collapsed.
The quote you cite actually says, "between the third and fourth books," but that is misleading. It would actually take place between the third and fourth series. The LW books were published in four series, with the Grand Master series being the third, and the New Order series being the fourth. In the game, you are apparently a Grand Master Kai Lord, so that would make the game "book #20.1."
[Correction: It seems you are only a "Kai Lord," so book #3.5 would indeed be accurate.]
Comment has been collapsed.
You're right, I got the numbers wrong but it doesn't make the devs placement any more accurate. Your placement between the Grandmaster and New Order series makes much more sense. I'd guessed this was likely a miscommunication rather than a lore bodge as Dever was involved with the game.
A continuation of Lone Wolf's story post "The Curse of Naar" also makes sense with the New Order series focusing on a new character. Even though Lone Wolf is featured throughout the series it would have left plenty of room to work in any further games around the existing canon.
Comment has been collapsed.
I've just replayed through the intro and that dates it three years after the destruction of the monastery and the defeat of Zagarna which would indeed place it between books three and four. Additionally all the skills you have to choose from are the original Kai disciplines. You have four choices which would match the number of skills you'd have after finishing book three (though technically your fourth skill would be acquired upon starting the fourth book). You're also only referenced as a Kai Lord so it would seem that you were in fact misremembering your position as a Grand Master.
Comment has been collapsed.
Then I stand corrected. I haven't had a chance to play the game, myself, so I only have (distant) memory of the books to go by.
Comment has been collapsed.
The setting is indeed the same (well, I have very few memories of it, I read those books more than 15 years ago), but it's not a gamebook-gamebook, more a turn-based RPG with very few choices to make. No dice, less text than a full book, etc. It's still a decent game though.
House of Hell, Forest of Doom and a few others are gamebooks-gamebooks.
Thank you for suggesting the Sorcery games ! They seem to be very good indeed, I haven't read those books. Sadly they aren't translated (I'm French).
I have no problem with games in English in general, but the ones with a lot of text, it can get exhausting quickly. House of Hell and The Forest of Doom are the only games in the Fighting Fantasy bundle that are translated in French. And probably the only ones I'll buy :/
Comment has been collapsed.
Kinda strange that only these two are translated since most Fighting Fantasy books are available in French. Though it's probably an in-house or a fan translation they added in, since Gallimard still holds the rights for the French translations and AFAIK they're very stingy with it. I have all these books in French but played them in English on Steam, I should have tried to compare the texts to see if they followed Gallimard's translations or not :x

I somehow missed House of Hell, so thanks for mentioning that one.

I bought from GOG during their summer sale. I got their previous game, Expeditions: Conquistador in a bundle. It wasn't a name-your-price bundle, but instead was 12 games for >$4. I kind of felt bad that that I got such a good game so cheap that I bought from GOG too. I did the same with another game from that bundle, Ring Runner Flight of the Sages.
Comment has been collapsed.
It was the Adrenalin Bundle from Bundle Stars. The bundle was $3, not $6 shown on ITAD. I bought it mainly just to get Expeditions: Conquistador, but activated a few of the others, Ring Runner being one of them. That was the last time I bought a bundle just for one or two games. I now only buy bundles if I can name my price and/or it the majority of games are games I want.

Thanks to all that have posted. I have added many to my wishlist and will pick a select few for my final wave of purchase during summer sale. My contributions to this list:

I thought Four Last Things was a pretty nice, funny and original adventure game.
Its rather short though.

Just this one in my mind :
Out There: Ω Edition 59,431 owners
Because i think No Man's Sky inspired strongly from this one, that didn't get the recognition it deserves.
A lot similarities.
But i think it's very very subjective which games deserve more support. Because if i tell you that a superb maritim trade game or a superb building construction game with construction machines would have deserved more support, i think you'll just laugh a lot and it's understandable ! :p

Legend of Heroes series, so maybe cold steel will be released on pc someday

IMHO you should defenetly preorder Hellblade:) http://store.steampowered.com/app/414340/Hellblade_Senuas_Sacrifice/
Developers have pretty good portfolio of previous games and price for a new game is pretty fair
Comment has been collapsed.
As much as it seems promising, the thread is for games that are considered good by people who have already played them, and that could use more exposure and support. Hellblade isn't released, so we can't get anyone's genuine first hand opinion of the game, nor gauge its publicity or sales.

Here's my recommendation if you're even remotely into metroidvania kind of games, Hollow Knight. Just get it, buy it GOG support those guys and the devs. It's a great game well worth it's full price. It'll last you 15+ hours (and thats about the FASTESt anyone completed it on HLTB), it'll probably last 25+ hours.
What are you still doing here!? You looking for a metroidvania ? Go buy Hollow Knight!!
Comment has been collapsed.
I hear what you are saying. But anyone waiting for a sale to buy this game on the premise if they may or may not like it, should put their doubts in a bin. I'm happy to see that it is selling well, it has over 240K sales on steam I think. But it still nowhere the amount it deserves in a world and time that shitty run-of-the-mill re-skin games sell millions upon millions. It is 33% off on GOG atm, which puts it at €8,89. All I'm trying to say is; that if you have to money to spare and you're looking for a metroidvania, look no further and get it (ON GOG, you know... actually OWNING a game and all..)

Oooh, I can't wait to get my hands on Shovel Knight. It's the game most of us 80's kids thought we'd played back then.. Just better from what I've heard. So if I understand correctly from your comment it is all bundled into the Treasure Trove?
Free additional content for Hollow Knight is just icing on the cake by now. They just delivered SO much with their initial release. I thank you for the heads up =D
Comment has been collapsed.
Longest buddy of mine highly recommends Hollow Knight also, and he's a big ol' grumpus who isn't easily impressed. Noted the soundtrack was awesome, says the non-linearity of the game is impressive, and generally complimented design choices and difficulty curve.
I have almost no monies but he (and his wife) are both planning to murderise me if I don't pick it up while it's on the current little sale. :s

Anything by Spiderweb Software. One man dev team working since the 90s on games, and all of them are good-great, imo. Isometric RPGs with turn based combat. The only downside is the graphics can be a little dated.
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?developer=Spiderweb%20Software
Comment has been collapsed.
Get them all in one bundle for around $17. That's almost $1 per game.

The Spiderweb Software Super-Gigantic Bundle was on sale for $17.31 during Steam's Summer Sale. You'll probably have to wait until Winter Sale to see that, again.

Your recent post (I did not comment but I mostly agree with you and liked what you wrote) inspired me to buy Little Nightmares and Cryptark today.

Hehe I had the idea of creating a similar thread, along with a few giveaways for some of those titles.
All these games really deserve attention imo. sooo check em out!
Wishmere 2D Sidescrolling beat em up game. Currently in Early Access, but 1.0 is coming within the next month or so.
Phantom Halls Early Access 2.5D Roguelike game with an Evil Dead licence <- Awesome artwork too
Hardland Another awesome RPG game with awesome artwork. Also in Early access. but I believe the final version is coming sometime this year finally.
Tinertia a good rage inducing game heheh
Here's some games I found during the sale that I found to be sweet as well..
Quote A crazy beautiful hand-drawn action RPG that's narrative driven
I will create a separate thread in a few days to give some of these away

Spy Chameleon - RGB Agent. SteamSpy says 70k+, but keep in mind that it has been bundled before. The game is super fun, not excessively long/hard and it has an interesting concept. Don't buy it if you don't own a Xbox controller (the character changes his colors depending on the button you press, playing this with an Xbox controller is perfect since it matches 'A', 'B', 'X' and 'Y' colors) or you are color blindness (might have a hard time playing it). I 100%'ed it in ~10 hours and it was very enjoyable.
Glass Masquerade. (3k-7k). A jigsaw-style game with amazing artstyle. Keep in mind is very short (~3 hours, 25 levels). Oh and it has 25 flags in its achievements to showcase in your profile, if that's your thing :)
Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan (59k-74k, but it has been bundled before). Great beat'em up-RPG game, amazing artstyle. It was made by a small Cameroonian developer.
edit: also ALL of Matthew Brown's games

Much as I dislike being contrary, I can't restrain myself; I HATE SPY CHAMELEON SO DAMNED MUCH!!! 😬
One of the few games I considered bad enough to deserve me writing up a negative review. Gah. Purest 💩
Matthew Brown's games, on the other hand, are AWESOME! I'm with you there :)

While Salt & Sanctuary is probably the most well know, it does look like the other two games from the Ska Studios Collection have flown relatively under the radar with high reviews.

The Fidelio Incident is currently on sale (-40%). Please consider buying it, if you like these kinds of games. It's really worth it. And they are desperate for sales. If we want to see more from this developer, we need to give him a little support. Because I doubt they can live from just 3k sold copies. So please have a look at the game. And if you like what you see, just go for it. You will have a good time.
Also, 2 public giveaways for The Fidelio Incident:
Level 5
Level 9
Ok, this is based on the idea of Khalaq (thanks for that!) and my last thread. I hope we can create a nice list of games that deserve to sell better than they are, or even are in dire need of support. Since the summer sale is on, it would be kind of stupid to limit this to full-priced games. ^^ So, let's just say we list games here that are so good, that they deserve to be bought, no matter the price.
Please feel free to contribute to this thread. If you know a game that clearly should get more attention than it does, please link to the store page. And if you want, write a few lines about it. So, what are other games that deserve our attention in your opinion?
EDIT: Ok, let's just make a list of games that are worth a look, and that deserve a few more sales. Browse through the list, you might see something that interests you. :)
forma.8
It seems to be a really good game, yet nobody buys it. I didn't even know the game existed, until I saw and won! yay!^^ a giveaway for it. And it looks so interesting. I am eager to play it, once I beat Sundered.
It has good reviews. Also a very good user score on Steam. Why the hell does this game fly that low under the radar? I think it deserves better. Maybe some of you will take a look now. :)
What Remains of Edith Finch
I think it deserves better than the 25,000 copies it sold before the sale. Yes, on sale at -25% it sold quite a few more copies. I still think a gem like that should sell better. And more people should experience it. We should give this developer the chance to create more games like this.
The Fidelio Incident (ON SALE RIGHT NOW 40%)
It sold only like 2,000 copies so far. Which is pretty ridiculous, if you ask me. It has such a good narrative. Fantastic actors (love that irish accent). Great atmosphere. More gameplay than your average walking sim. Nice graphics. Outstanding sound design. And a nice ending. It really deserves better than 2,000 copies... It's just 1 month old, but already at -34% suring summer sale. If you like story-driven games, I urge you to take a look at this one. It probably needs our help way more than Edith Finch.
Late Shift
This is an interactive movie. Not the Telltale kind, the real kind. It's an FMV game with relatively high production values. I would say it's almost TV show level. The actors are good for the most part. The story is nice, and the choices really matter. It even has 7 different endings. If you like FMV games, this is probably one of the best you can get today. 89% of the players on Steam seem so think so, too. I hope these guys make enough money to make another one of these. We already saw how bad things can go with Missing: An Interactive Thriller, which was discontinued due to low sales. I just hope Late Shift doesn't have to suffer the same fate.
Sundered
This game gets a lot of hate at the moment. Mostly for difficulty spikes, and for the parts of the world that are procedurally generated. And I understand the criticism. I understand it can be frustrating when you do well, and then suddenly there is such an amount of enemies that you feel you had no chance at all. Many people don't even like when games get too hard. So, these moments might turn those gamers off completely. on top of that, parts of the world are procedurally generated. The main sections are not, but the space in between is. And it's not done that good, to be honest. There are dead ends that make no sense from a level design standpoint. And you can sometimes see how they put a room together. There are moments when you realize you had almost the same exact room 5 minutes earlier, with the treasure in the same position. So, the game is not flawless... BUT! It still is so much fun! The art style is fantastic, the animations really good. The controls are tight. The level design may not be as good as in Ori, for instance. But that's not the end of the world. You still have great design in many areas, hard to reach treasures, secrets to discover - typical metroidvania stuff. And the difficulty spikes - well, i love them! ^^ I really like this system that spawns like 40 enemies all at once, and you have to try to survive. And no, it's not impossible. It's a matter of skill, of learning how the different enemy types behave, and of the perks you're running. I went for shield regeneration, which helps enormously against the hordes. It's always challenging, which is not necessarily the case in all metroidvania games. TL;DR: yes, the game has certain problems. That doesn't mean it's a bad game. I stopped playing Pyre for this. That has to mean something. ;)
CONTRIBUTIONS FROM OTHER MEMBERS (I added whatever description/text was there unedited):
Nex Machina
We need Housemarque stuff on PC.
The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker
There was that 1 game i wanted to plug , but i cannot remember its name .
You play a psychiatric or something like that , that is investigating a case .... its kinda like her story ...
Thing was , the more you talk with people , the higher the chance is for you to get insane ....
Thimbleweed Park
I've been trying to do my bit and spread the word about this game through a number of GAs, but I would seriously recommend this to anyone who enjoys point & click adventure games.
Sally's Law
One of my favorite indie game. Full price just $4, now on 70% sale. Please support them if you simply love your dad :)
Gran Vitreous
shoot 'em up meets looting and randomized modifiers : from not able to shoot and survive for 45seconds to unlimited secondary/ultimate ammo. IIRC iwas only one in a groupees bundle before release.
Starcrawlers
Shortest way to describe the game: Shadowrruners crawling ... IN SPACE(just without the story depth). Funded with kickstarter and recently got out of Early Access the game is quite fun to play though it has its downsides. It has a good class/build variety but later on combat turns into rotation of skills for most part(the combat is turn-based btw).
Lethe - Episode One
Shameless self-plug. An atmospheric first person adventure game with survival horror elements (and actual gameplay). 50% off!
We've had good reviews so far, and multiple players mentioning that we ought to get more attention. We're currently working on the next title, but with less than half of the previous (already small) team (due to low sales). It would be nice to know if there is still a desire for quality horror games.
Adding it to your wishlist or just visiting the page is welcomed as well.
(Though apparently most people are already waiting for it to become dirt cheap before they buy it. sob)
Bullet Heaven 2
Don't Open the Doors
This is a claymation action rpg that deserves more than the 3K~ it did. If you like claymation, you may also like the classic point and click The Neverhood (it's sadly abandonware at this point. You could vote for it on GOG if you'd like...)
Solitairica
Solitairica is my pick. Never thought a roguelike version of solitaire would be fun, but it really is.

Cheap as hell with only 1,234 ± 984 owners. Yeah, it's sad to see. It's not like people even come across the store page, seeing as how my review is the most "helpful" recent review. It only has 4 votes.
Peregrin
Add Peregrin to your list please.
P.S. from me: This game looks amazing. And it sold only a few hundred copies. I didn't know it even existed, until robilar5500 posted it here. And I bet the same goes for most of you people as well. I might buy this one in the near future. Just have a look at the store page. You might like what you see there. Seems to be a real hidden gem. :)
