It's amazingly diverse. With all the mods out there you can create giant flying nuclear bombs if you want (with wiremod that lets you create electronic systems).
TTT that has been described is a mod that has an objective. You connect to someone's server running that mod and there are rounds. You are randomly assigned to be either a traitor or innocent and traitors must kill innocents... with the interesting twist that the innocents don't know who else is innocent or traitor. I suggest looking that up.

You decide the objective. If you want to build something that flies, fly it. If you want to build and race a car, do so. If you and your friend want to build forts and artillery and shell each other with it, have fun.
It's the very definition of a sandbox game. :)

It's like 500 games in one. It's a hub for different gamemodes. Sure, sandbox (build shit/destroy shit that you build) is the main attraction, you can also play several different games on the source engine using garry's mod. From roleplaying gamemodes like Jailbreak and TTT to minigames like GarryWare and Fortwars, to classics like Deathrun and Surf.
There's a lot to do.

I bought, i played it, i tried to make stuff on my own, didn't get any success, started playing mods for Garry's mod, there's one you might enjoy if you are into zombies vs humans (player vs player), server ip: 65.60.53.27:27015 .
I also found this one Roll playing server via a friend, lost the ip of that, but it was mad fun too when doing the mini games. Some sort of RP tower mod, where you had your own room, cinema, shops, secrets, mini games, lots of other stuff.

Meh, not worth the $50 you have to spend to get all of the models.
Fun IF you have friends.
Also- not worth full price.

It's hilarious fun! Straight forward you can play single-player (boring) or you can play multi-player (FUN) Lots of gamemodes which don't take much time getting used to some are: sandbox (multiplayer just playing around), TTT (Trouble In Terriost Town (Basically a virtualised and much better version of Cluedo)) and many many many others to see how many others there are there are about 1100-1200 servers to play on (50% of them sandbox). But when you find a gamemode you like you are addicted to the game and the gamemode! As you can see with my 200+ hours

lua rules. I even designed a simulation for Lotka-Volterra equations once using GMod and didn't even get the "Bad coder" achievement :)

I've seen Gary's Mod around on Steam for a LONG time. Every time I take a look at it, I don't get it. Can someone break it down for me? My best guess is that you can play with all the Valve 3D models and do silly stuff with it online with friends. Am I close?
