want instant/ no lag response? Get a crt monitor. Ips panels will be recommended here as they are the new 'must have' fad. Budget as well as desired rez and size would also be good to tell us. 1080p would be the min rez. 1440p is becomming standard though.

IPS panels have better colours and larger viewing angles compared to the traditional TN panels. Only real downside is longer response time. So it's not just a fad.

Almost every monitor is 1080p nowadays, even the cheapest ones. 1440p is more common than it used to be, but the prices are still too high for the average consumer. A good monitor with 1440p resolution costs at least 700€ here in Finland.
