So I bought a PS2 Slim. xD It was kind of an impulse purchase, but I'm certainly not regretting it. On a side note, I always found the GC to be the cutest console ever, but I honestly think that the newest addition my PS family is quite adorable. I^v^I
Game-wise, I currently only have Manhunt, Drakengard and Persona 4 because if there's one type of games I should be playing in my last year at sr secondary school it's definitely long-ass, engaging Japanese RPGs... I'm dumb + also waiting for Killer 7 to be delivered.

Also will be definitely getting the following:
FF X
Red Dead Revolver
Max Payne 1,2 (rebuy, cause I lost my PC copy)
Snake Eater (rebuy, cause I need that nightmare sequence)

Probably getting:
Bully
Vice City
The Thing
Dirge of Cerberus
some Bond games

Would get, if they weren't so obscure/expensive here:
Obscure Heh, so fitting
Fatal Frame/Project Zero
Katamari Damachi

So yah, any suggestions? I^v^I Preferably not titles, that have been remastered on PS3.

Oh, and gibs (too lazy to make a train)

Silent Hill 2 & 3: Probably the best survival horror games ever; the atmosphere is perfect. 3 Is my favorite.
Timsplitters 2 & 3 - The spiritual successors to Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark, but better in almost every way.
Soul Calibur II - My favorite fighter on the PS2.
Tekken 5 - Second favorite fighter
Racing - Grand Turismo 3 for realistic, Burnout 3 for not ;)
RPGS - Since FFX, Suikoden, Star Ocean, Persona have already been mentioned, I'd suggest the Tales series

Good platformer series - Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Spyro, God of War, Crash Bandicoot, Prince of Persia

Haven't played SH3 yet, but I'm considering rebuying SH2, since I really don't like the fog in the remaster.
I'm not that much into GoW, since I always prefered faster hack'n'slashes where style is sometimes more important than being actually effective, like DMC, but I might the first one some day. :)

Don't have experience with the rest. Thank you (especially for mentioning Timesplitters)! ♥

I like racing games, so loom into Test Drive Unlimited.

If you're willing to get a PS1 memory card, also look into Test Drive 6 for PS1 (backwards compatibility ftw).

If you like persona you also need to check Shin Megami Tensei 3. It had different names on USA, japan and Europe, so be sure. It had Dante from Devil May Cry as guest star and had lots of stuff to fight. Problem is... Its very hard, like persona, you need to do certain stuff and have certain magics or you will be, literally, unable to kill the final boss.

There is also an skeletor torero motero.

Oh and Ico and the other one, that one with the titans.

yeah, my first "persona" JRPG. Check it:

Kind of persona battle system, same magic, names, etc. Can't remember about the enemies.
Demons do something on their world and they mix the demon world with the human world. You got trapped and turned into some kind of "virtual reality demon". You travel between dimensions and try to fix "the thing".

This is when things get nice and difficult:

You play and there are a moon calendar, full moon = harder enemies. A boss during full moon = Impossible, etc. Better enemies, etc. You need to kill them AND CATCH THEM, like fucking pokemons, and they will be your teammates, fighting with you. They can evolve and YOU CAN MIX THEM in order to create new and powerful demons.

I had a GIGANTIC MASSIVE chart that take minutes to fully load on my old PC to see wich demon, how and WHEN (different moon, different creature) to mix them to get powerful demons to help me.

But... Yeah, they are demons, you are a demon, you are capturing and mixing them Mengele style... So Dante comes and try to kill them all. His appeareance its kinda charismatic and... Yeah, if you do things right, he can join you. Its the most powerful companion you can have, I think.

It was only in English but it was Worth it.

Booom! Found it... And the skeleton biker bullfighter, the motero torero was MATADOR. Hilarious

OK, looked for him, found him on Youtube, check it if you want to know how it works:

"Fatal Frame/Project Zero" Looks like you got one out of 2 "?" reasons to get a ps2 :)

Edit: Resident evil code veronica. Guess that is one of the few titles from the original set i will never see on PC..
Baldurs gate dark alliance 1-2 are indeed something i would suggest. Especially for 2 players! If they would be released on steam i would buy em.
Genma Onimusha? Something like that.. Remeber loving the game but it might have been xbox.

I'm getting a PS3 for cheap soon and apperantly you can get at least 1-2? from the PS store. Never finished the second one due to my friend "borrowing" a bad copy on his chipped x-box. But the first one was great! Haven't played much console since around that time.

Wow, Drakengard! Never would've expected that to be one of your first purchases in your budding PS2 collection.

One of my favourite games, you should definitely play it in spurts though, it's a lame Dynasty Warriors clone gameplay wise so it could get pretty repetitive. Worth playing for the insane story though, not much beats it in that regard.

If you enjoy Persona be sure to check out the SMT line of games on the PS2 and if you just genuinely enjoy RPGs, get Dragon Quest 8, Dark Chronicle and Rogue Galaxy, the Level-5 trio as I would call it. Truly amazing games.

I have a PS2, but for the next generation I decided to get an Xbox 360 instead of a PS3 (and I don't regret it), so I don't know which of the next titles were remade for PS3, but a quick look at a master list of PS2 games, these I definitively recommend. Note that some of these titles also had a release on PC, so if you can, go for the PC version instead:

  • Dark Cloud 2 (I think it changed its name to Dark Chronicles tho) Loved this game, spent hundreds of hours playing it. Hundreds of hours is a lot for me because I'm more of a 'butterfly' when it comes to games. I actually finished this one. XD Forever one of my faves.
  • Suikoden (PS2 has III, IV, and V. Personally I liked IV.) Can't go wrong with this one :)
  • Soul Nomad & the World Eaters
  • Makai Kingdom
  • Mana Khemia series
  • Atelier Iris series
  • Disgaea series - both 1 and 2 are good, but personally I prefer 2.
  • Star Ocean
  • Crimson Tears
