Valve put me on purple and at the time pink had a petty large lead it was nice to see purple make a comeback and win. I crafted a game badge to make sure I got a shot at the three games. But if purple hadn't won, I wouldn't have cared, it's obviously a ploy to get people buying cards and crafting badges.

What do you get when you are on the team that wins? Other than having a chance of being one of those 30 who get free 3 games from their wishlists.

What I find unfortunate is that they don't randomize the team you're in each day. It's nice to be part of a single group for the sale duration, but with some bad luck, some groups could be filled with people who don't care while others with people who love this meta game.
