UPDATE: Up and running again thanks to Nordhbane! YEY! Thanks so much for providing hosting services for the scripts that are used for this puzzle and future events!! You deserve a WL add from everyone for this!!

Hello all!!

I am busy working on the HUGE puzzle event of 250 world landmarks but need to get out this small TEASER puzzle for the reasons of:

  1. Enthusiasm and hype before main event.
  2. Testing purposes of new puzzle site domain and scripts used for puzzles.
  3. To get your input on puzzle design.
  4. Accepting volunteers for those interested in helping design this huge event-- please??

The main event will have more types of puzzles and use coordinates of latitude and longitude! It will have 500+ GAs and alot more fun that previous puzzles. You will REALLY see, travel, and experience the world landmarks and LEARN A TON about them!!

Stages to solve this puzzle:

1) Use image below to find first Hidden ITH... (add the letters in order to the link http://www.itstoohard.com/puzzle/????????)
2) Solve the three crosswords and use the results of each crossword to find hidden GAs.
3) Bring back passcodes from GAs you found for answers on the original ITH.
4) Solving all three crossword puzzles gives access to another hidden ITH.
5) Solve passcode puzzles on each GA reward there to gain access to final Hidden Reward GA! (provided by Deathmonkey7)

SOooooo, all you need to start is the attached image below!

Good luck!

Excellent-- loved the ease of use of crosswords in scripts, Learned alot and fun!
Great-- learned alot and found it held my interest!
Fair-- Ok puzzle but lacked variety. Look forward to see more variety of puzzles in main event!
Meh-- It wasn't really the type of puzzle that I like but thanks for trying.
OMG!-- It was too technical, too easy, too whatever--- just hated it!!

In the final crossword puzzle, after solving the entries, is the code correct?
It appears to me there's some reference errors too many As and Fs

my reference had many a's and f's... wait H's...

Still trying to figure out the values of the letters after the crosswords. One question though, shouldn't SA actually be B?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Technically yes should be B...

But there's a famous saying that still makes us wonder...

"To B or not to B?"

That remains a question...

For values check the text under picture of ITH.

Congrats!

Solving vowel thing gives access to GA game of BESIEGE... So if you have game or not interested then you can skip...

But the vowel thing is fun!

I think I need a break from this, but I'll be back. I solved all the crosswords, but I'm not quite sure what to do with the codes, despite all your hints. Thanks for putting this together!

Main event will have NO decoding at all... simply fun and educational...

I will make hints even more clearer as this teaser is just for educational purposes... it's good to know the tricks that solving this takes as many other puzzles have the same goal when looking for hidden ITHs (itstoohard) puzzles or GA links hidden.

Loved the crossword puzzle design. Didn't need the hints and to be honest don't think they are needed really. The decoding I need to sit and think about for a bit, even with all the hints I'm missing something....

I'm looking forward to the main event and can help out with some GA's and am able to help out as needed.

Thank you for your kind words. Im working on the backbone of the event... gathering all the research data, pictures of landmarks, etc... latitudes and longitudes.

All in a sharable online google EXCEL spreadsheet.

If you want to help with that kind of leg work let me know... add me on Steam and pm me.

Bump for solved.
Loved the very first puzzle with the image. More picture recognition would be nice (what is it, or where is it located).
Crosswords are nice. No need to have the hint button for auto-solve.
While it might be interesting to answer about several subjects for a monument (architect, date of building, location, engineer, sponsor, materials), this ends up as a ctrl+F in Wikipedia, get the answer, forget the answer. I would be in favor of stressing 1 aspect of each monument (e.g. date for Eiffel tower. Q could be around World's fair, # of years of construction, type of exhibitions in World's fair, people at the opening, date of sponsoring...). As repeating is teaching it would maybe "stick" more easily to one's/my brain when the ITH is over. If possible.
I would not have been able to make the decoding part without the first few hints you dropped - or would have taken me some time. That said, I love decoding stuff.
Vowels trick is always funny (English is not my first language, so I normally guess the word, but sometimes with the wrong vowels).

Now I'm teased!

enjoyed :) missed only brazilian Engineer [couldnt get that right]
gave up, cause, well, maybe later
advice, if it was not on purpose, as of Egypt, you write something different than it is on a picture
good luck! can provide bundled GA's or pictures from Tokyo for event if you will be short on t hat end
