In this case I usually reply to my own comment instead of editing or adding new comment

this is the most sensible response in the entire thread, even though neither civvie or Matt are streamers.

Currently working on not clicking on recommended videos associated with vtubers, as I'm trying to get out of this bottomless content hole.

The youtube algorithm is just crazy... Clicked one tech-tube video and then maybe one more. Now my recommendations are half of them...

When you don't know, ask Google your favourite search engine...
I asked, and the answer seems to be virtual youtuber.

I had the same question!

And as usual, once I found out, I wished I didn't know. :D

I started watching streamers like a month ago, was never into that, so I'm not ready for the "next step" yet I guess lmao

Nope, the weird obsession people have with them scares me away. :D
Plus I don't really get the whole "virtual persona" thing it involves. It's similar to how I don't get vocaloids etc.

Don't get me wrong though, nothing against them or people who like them, just not my cup of tea. I prefer good ol' fashioned Youtubers rather than a fake anime "puppet" thing with a voice behind it. :P

To be frank, only thanks to noticing this obsession n other people I realised why calling those singer/dancer type of people "idols" is actually fairly accurate.. It's almost like they are being worshipped for being who they are. Of course, I think I'm exagerating, but sometimes, when I see how people are excited by even the smallest things those idols do, I'm not so sure anymore.

It feels like everyone and their grandma have a vtuber persona at this point. Commission for the models, even the detailed ones are dirt cheap, so can't really blame them. Overall I think it's a good thing, gets more people into streaming.

I get a lot of "funny moments compilations" recommendations on YT from vtubers. I watch some of them and really like the content. Both English and Japanese speakers. Apart from that, I follow a couple on Twitch and YT, but never really watched any stream.

As with all streamers, and they are pretty much just streamers, I'd rather play video games myself than be bored watching someone else do it. (And more often than not they are really bad at them and compensate by screaming all the time... Uuugh. <.< )

I see some clips here and there (usually on Animemes), but that's all. I have no interest in them.

I had to look up what Vtubers are, to make sure they are not some kind of potato product. I could go either way, depends on if the content is good, I don't care about whether there's any kind of avatar at all though for streams, only the content itself.
