Personally, I have a middle class Lenovo G580 laptop with gt635m, 8Gb ddr3 memory and Intel core i5 3230m (2.6-3.2GHz). While I can play with most games at medium-high details, I still think that it is only a perk and laptops are never meant to be gaming devices.

If i already have a gaming desktop (which i do), i would consider getting a mid-end laptop, or maybe even a tablet that is able to run easy to performance games (FTL-Risk of Rain-Starbound, etc).

I recently bought a laptop, not for gaming but for playing games I usually play. You all will choose desktop because it can be cheaper and powerful but keep in mind if you live/study/work outside home you need a laptop as a desktop would be a pain in the ass in those situations.

Personally I would like both, but if I had to choose then I would go with a desktop just because its much easier to upgrade a desktop

If you have a middle class laptop, you can't talk about gaming on a laptop. I have an MSI GT70 with i7-4700MQ, 12GB of ram and GTX 770m. While I could have got a much more powerful PC for the same price, this laptop can run everything I have thrown at it maxed out at 1080p, besides maxing out AntiAliasing (I usually use FXAA and it's fine).
If you only game and/or use the computer in a single spot and don't ever care to move around, PC is definitely better for the money, but with a laptop you can go to LAN parties, take it with you if you have to go somewhere for few days and sit in any room you want with it, while still being able to play games decently.
I understand the benefits of a desktop PC and I would love to eventually build a good gaming desktop, but I firmly believe that my primary computer will be a laptop for quite a while.

I think laptops have a bad reputation from the past and get hated on a bit too strongly while there are valid reasons for someone going with one. However they won't ever be as good as a dekstop hands down.

I tried gaming on laptops back in the day, when i had no real idea of what it took to get good performance. With laptops i always found myself wanting more power, and if i wanted it, it would cost a pretty penny. That's when i started to inform myself on building a gaming rig. Laptops can now offer a good amount of power, but it will always be pricier. I'd rather sacrifice mobility for more power for less money.

Gaming laptops are extremely overpriced, lacks necessary cooling to keep itself alive for reasonable period of time and they won't ever reach the performance of desktops. If I ever get a laptop, it will be used as multimedia machine.

Laptops. more overpowered and overpriced than a console. but, more portable then a desktop. But, if I get to play Battlefield 3 or Masseffect 3 or ARMA anywhere... I can settle for the increased price.

I think laptops are also meant for gaming, if you buy a decent one or a gaming laptop, but it never meant to overpower its desktop sibling. It will be more expensive than the desktop, it won't have as much upgrade capabilities than the desktop, it will not able to overpower even the same spec desktop, but it does what the desktop lack, portability.

If you can afford, get both. If you can't, know what you really need. Your gaming desktop might be powerful enough to play all games on full setting, but it will still be useless if you aren't there to use it. Your gaming laptop might need to tone down some game setting, but it'll be more useful than a top-tier gaming desktop left as a room decoration. Whatever it is, the basic is still desktop > laptop.

Lenovo V480 here and I prefer laptop anyday anytime due to me needing space (which normal PC takes up lots of it) and being mobile.

PC won't take too much space if you do mini ITX build.

The case itself doesn't take much space, but you need a dedicated computer desk for mouse, keyboard and monitor.

You can get a keyboard that combines the two, so that saves some room. But if you're going to get a desktop, then you shouldn't be skimping out on hardware you're using all the time.

I'm sticking with laptops, being able to move it anywhere I want is just way too convenient.

I have a laptop, but only because it was a present (and would be easier than giving my parents a list of parts), and as a student it's EXTREMELY useful to take with me between class and home.

Otherwise, I'd much prefer a proper, powerful gaming rig desktop.

Gaming tablet for me. Nexus 7 2012 for now (currently playing Shadowrun Returns), but I plan to move to a Windows tablet in the coming year.

Depends.
I have both and I have to say. I do love to have a nice laptop. why?
I am almost every weekend on my girls place. So, when she is doing something else or learning I am able to play. It's also good to transport it to Lan parties and stuff.
BUT. If you don't use to get out of ur house buy for sure a Desktop.
