playing it with some mates with voice chat is hilarious. especially if you keep identities secret!

how do so many people get the ship?, usually when there are a bunch of givaways on the same game, there is some promotion were they get the game 4 free.

It's multiplying once some people got it. Meaning that originally, if you bought it, 2 more appeared in your inventory as gifts which you could give to anyone. This was a promotion to bring its multiplayer back to life. But then, those that you gave away, if the person unlocks them into their library, they get one more copy that they can give away. Which means, if you buy one copy ofthe game, there's going to be 4 more that it spawned.

Yeah the game was based around those old "murder mystery" parties/board games where one player had to try and "tag" or "murder" another player. I often call the gameplay "Paranoia" as that's what the general gameplay creates. Not being able to trust anyone and trying to figure out who's trying to get whom.
It seems to transfer to PC not too badly using "The Sims"-esce player management to force players to go out and preform tasks that might put you in danger. I heard The Ship fell out of popularity when they released a patch that made it much easier to maintain your character's stats and therefore made the gameplay a lot slower when it came to killing. The single-player is deemed as a lack-luster experience as it's mostly just a glorified tutorial, however the game was always built around the multiplayer experience so that's to be expected.
The genre hasn't seem much love from any other developer and the only game that seems to take inspiration from the whole "Paranoia" thing was the Assassin Creed multiplayer.

I heard that Assassins Creed also took elements from Bloody Good Time's multiplayer...sadly both of these games seem dead multiplayer wise...

Bloody Good Time and The Ship are pretty much the same game gameplay wise from the same developer. thanks for reminding me of it, completely forgot that it came out. It didn't get much attention in the gaming world.

Yeah I almost bought Bloody Good Time once before but apparently it died quick and it dropped off my to buy list.
Maybe if it goes on sale for real cheap I will try it out, I just hate playing with bots for some reason... :-/

It doesn't have too many players, but as I could see, it actually has some more players than games like Sanctum... which is weird, honestly. The thing is though, you don't need that many players to have a full experience with it. I played on a server where there was only about 4 of us, and when I left it moved up to about 10. There were also some bots, which actually helped a lot, so you could really get lost in the crowd. I'd say give it a try once it's on sale, the community may be thin in numbers but the game is still just about as much enjoyable as it can be.

I managed to pick up a copy around the bundle time. I was jubious about it at first because of the slating it gets on a regular basis. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Absolutely fantastic with a bunch of friends on teamspeak. Brilliant fun if you keep your identity a secret :)
Still a couple of full multiplayer servers up and running so always easy to find a game if you're short of friends.
I haven't tried the single player yet, so can't comment on that.

Well, I know this game has a basically "hated" status because of how many copies were given away here (which is stupid), and it became hated especially after its inclusion in one of those Royales, but my question is, did anyone actually play it? Because I did, and it was surprisingly great.
The singleplayer starts out lame, and i's fairly dfferent than the multiplayer, as in having these "quests" you have to complete. It is fairly short, and has a very basic plot to it, but the jokes here and there are very tongue-in-cheek and the voice acting is alright. In the end, its nothing special actually, but an alright experience. However, when I tried the multiplayer, it turned out that's where the game really shines. It has an ample amount of suspense and fun to it, even if you play with only bots, but it's not that hard to find a server with 4-7 players around, and that should really do it if there's also some bots. I actually felt bad for uninstalling it (need some HD space rigt now...), and I'll definitely download it again once I have completed a lot of other stuff and there's more space on my hard drive.
So, anyone like this game, or is it just me? Also, if you never actually played it, go and try the multiplayer. It's not as difficult as it looks first, and it's certainly a blast. I only wanted to sort of try it, and ended up playing around for about 2 hours.
