Preferably something with controller support or easy controls. And already in my library, because I'm broke. I got out of work to find out my grandfather was admitted to the hospital and nobody knows why at the moment, I'm unable to do anything and I won't know anything until his wife calls me. All I've been doing for the past hour is imagining the worst possible outcomes and I need a distraction.

I am sorry to hear that. You can play Bastion, Undertale or Ori. They are not very hard and can be played with controller.

Also: Dust: An Elysian Tail is pretty good too.

Maybe you wouldn't call it "wicked immersive" but dang, just play To The Moon right now!
And more of Rocksmith, but not sure if it falls under the category of easy controls :P

You got a lot of gems in your library but most of them I haven't played either and it would feel wrong to recommend them (lol I got like 500 games that I don't want to farm cards for because I'm convinced I will play them eventually, beause I want to..)

How about some Borderlands? Or even more of Town of Salem, I mean it's not action packed (well it's thrilling when the count at night gets down and all) but is taking one so much into the game that you can easily distract yourself with it.

Also, I hope everything will turn out good with your grandpa! :(

To the moon might be a bit sad.

Hm yea I was crying a ton but overall it left me with a good feeling and it's still one of those "must play" titles.

It's an amazing game, sure, but it might turn out to be too close to OP's real-life situation he or she is trying to get distracted from, it might introduce some thoughts that are best to be avoided right now. The emotional depth of this game is exactly the reason why I'd advise to chose something different.

Hmmn you got a point, I'm not a psychologist but exactly facing the situation like that might be inspiring and helping or do exactly the opposite good thing is she has lots of great games waiting to be played, maybe To The Moon another time..

Hope your grandfather is better soon!

I would say Thw Witcher. I spent long sessions playing that and was distracted from the world completely :)

Oh no! I hope everything is OK with your Grandpa! I hope his wife calls soon! :(

I'm gonna suggest Fallout 4, This War of Mine, or Mad Max to help as a distraction. Any nice 60 hour RPG should do the trick. My thoughts are with you my friend!

I fully recommend Spec Ops: The Line
Gameplay is a bit bland, but the story will straight up fuck you up, no lube.

There are two 2k gem FPS' that you own, of which I've played so much, it barely even feels real anymore how I could have: Bioshock Infinite (50 hours) and Borderlands 2 (500 hours..yeah...I know... :D ). If that doesn't spell immersion. I don't know what does. But maybe it's just my particular case. cause I see you have tried them and stopped playing them hell of a lot sooner than me (although I can't for the love of God imagine why anyone would do that). Also, the Fallout series is pretty immersive by most standards. Star with Fallout 3 and work your way up to New Vegas and Fallout 4. And what more can I say about The Witcher? It's just pure brilliance of writing, even if the game-play is not always the best

Sorry to hear about your grandfather, hope it's nothing serious and he gets better soon.

If you are up for it, I recommend Alien Isolation.

I think most of the suggestions above are great... the others I just haven't played myself. The reason I'm leaning towards Alien is because the tension can really draw you into a game. More importantly though it has a more linear progression that some of the exceptional titles mentioned above. That is, it would be easier for you to walk away for a period of time... hours/days/weeks, and find it relatively easy to pick up where you left off.

Games like the Witcher, Skyrim, and Fallout are some of my favorite games, but there is so much you can do in there that it seems like a longer separation for the game makes it difficult to jump back into the swing of things... if you are coming back to it every couple of hours or even every other day that is not such a problem. It's when you start to have the extended separations that it becomes harder to get re-entrenched. Not to mention that repeated interruptions can make the game seem like an everlasting gobstopper... and all of a sudden a great game becomes a boring one.

With what you have going on there is a possibility that you will be coming and going repeatedly for awhile. Some of those absences may be longer than others... Isolation has a pretty great story (albeit predictable because it's Alien) and couple that with the suspense it builds you've got a game to clear your mind with. Give it the additional perk of not being completely open world, and you've now also got a game that is easy enough to pick up from where you left off as if you'd only paused it...

Oh, and although I played my version on the PFunk 4 yes, that's what I call the PS4 I would imagine the PC controls would be very contoller friendly... just make sure you know what all the buttons do because when the xenomorphs pop out there is a much higher probability that you'll completely forget what every button does...

I do hope all is well with your grandfather and your family, and my thoughts are with you.

I'd apologize for the rant, but I think I've downed two pots of coffee today so it's to be expected.

I checked your library for games we both own, and compared the ones you haven't played to the ones I have, and I would say now might be a good time to start playing Skyrim. It has pretty good controller support (it was available for consoles after all), and it's easy to lose a lot of time in it. Also, if you like to mess around with that, there are a ton of mods for it. I just went with a few graphics updates, better UI, the unofficial patches and some basic armour/weapon mods. I used this guide:
http://www.ronwoods.us/2014/01/the-comprehensive-list-of-must-have.html
You can check my screenshots and see if you like the look with the mods I'm running

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather, hope he gets better!

I'd give The Talos Principle a chance, I've used this game for distraction in a similar situation, and it actually helped a lot. It's immensely immersive (unlike almost all the other puzzle games I've ever played), and it keeps your brain occupied all the time.

I hope there's nothing serious with your grandfather and he gets better soon.

Consortium is quite immersive. Don't know about controller support, but the controls are easy enough.

And I hope your grandfather gets better, and that it's nothing too serious.

Will a virtual hug suffice?
I'll edit this comment when I look through your library.

Games with really good music and beautiful scenery often gets my mind away from things.
Transistor
Don't Starve
Child of Light
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (Redux)
The Talos Principle
Crypt of the Necrodancer
Dust: An Elysian Tail
Ori and the Blind Forest
Tomb Raider 2013
Mirror's Edge

Playing with other people sometimes helps too.
Portal 2
Don't Starve Together
Borderlands
Battleblock Theater
Ibb & Obb
Rocket League

Or perhaps reminiscing about childhood?
LEGO® MARVEL Super Heroes
Disney Winnie the Pooh
Costume Quest
Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale

This one is more of a silly recommendation because of the spoiler.
Play Wolfenstein: The New Order!
And then make dk watch you stream it.

From your library I can say that Borderlands, Batman, Skyrim, and Darksiders are immersive. I would think Mad Max, This War of Mine, Wolfenstein, and Witcher 2 are immersive but I haven't played them to know for sure. I hope your grandfather gets better soon!

I would definitively try Ori and the Blind Forest. It's such a beautiful story and I couldn't put it aside till I played it through completely. I believe it has controller support. I'd also suggest You try the Long Dark. I just started it some days ago and if you are into survival games, this one is cool even freezing ;) and very immersive. I don't know about controller support, but they just added a new Menu in the last release, which seems to aim at controllers. So it's worth a try.
I could also imagine that the Vanishing of Ethan Carter could be worth a try, though I haven't played it myself I heard many good things about it.

I keep my fingers crossed for you and your grandfather and wish you all the best!
