Let me guess ... he added you on Steam and linked you a Steamtrades profile with lots of rep and you didn't confirm that his Steam account and the linked Steamtrades profile actually belong together?
Anyway, maybe ubisoft will invalidate the key if you can prove that you're the original owner? you might not get back the key, but at least the thief won't be able to play the game.
Not sure if Ubisoft will do that, but I've heard of cases where other users had their Steam key stolen and they contacted Humble Bundle support where they bought the key (HB support in turn contacted the dev / publisher or Steam directly) and the Steam key was invalidated.

Sorry for your key dude, it sucks to get scammed. I'd like to point out several things to be aware of next time you trade for anything that cannot be put in a trade window (keys, HB links):

Did you confirm his steam trade account he linked was actually his? rep comments on a profile can completely be faked and he can level up from scamming people out of games and cards so neither of those you can completely go by. The main thing is using Steam trades and steamrep. Do you use google chrome? If so get enhanced steam, it has many great things it adds to web based steam including links to that profile's steamrep and steam trades.

You have like 2 rep on steamtrades, doesn't take much to have a higher rep than you.
Seriously though, i get the impression you kinda asked for getting scammed by offering something like a FC4 key on steamtrades and then going first without carefully choosing the buyer to make sure that he doesn't run with your 60$ key without paying up. I almost don't dare to ask, but did you at least make screenshots of the trade, so you have enough evidence to report him on steamrep?

last I've checked, steamrep no longer handles reports of trade scams if keys are involved

Yeah, they don't. You can still do "search for steam id on SR forums" to see if there were any such declined reports before.

1) Sell on Ebay
2) Dude pays you
3) You send key and Dude redeems it
4) Dude claims never received or doesnt work and files claim on Paypal
5) Dude gets refund.
6) You are screwed.

Check your own steamrep, OP.
You have a marked by SR scammer in your friends. For your safety I strongly recommend you to block&remove the guy from your friendlist.

I know somebody that scammed me before, I don't think Steam actually cares as the scammer was known and people posted about him on Reddit, he only received a 7 day tradeban and that was it, he stole over 10.000$'s of games and account not banned. So yea...

You really don't have a lot of recourse b/c of the nature of the trade, but there's a few things I would do.
I know it can be tough when first starting building rep and trading keys is always a risk no matter who you're dealing with, but there are ways to protect yourself. Enhanced Steam is an absolute must because it links Steam profiles directly to ST profiles and its a quick check. ALWAYS check espc if you have to go first. SteamRep is a viable tool only for checking if they've been caught scamming before. They don't have the power to do anything like getting your items back. Generally people with high rep (greater than 100) care about that rep. The higher the rep, the less likely you'll be scammed, but its of course still possible. Good apples can go bad.

The best way to complete these big trades is to ask let's say, 5 keys, you give the code, then he gives the rest of the keys. That way, the loss is decreased if you get scammed.

So yeah, as the title says, I was scammed. A guy over on steamtrades , with what seemed to be a higher rep than me ran away with a Farcry 4 uplay code I had for trade.
Sucks to be me I guess...
Anyway, he didn't manage to steal the Hurk's Redemption LE code the game came with so I guess I'll dump it here for everyone to grab...

Remember people, it's for uplay...
