Funny, today I learned that Steam filters the term, "Ripoff," for a tag. However, the tag, "A rip off," works fine.

Well, I'd much rather you take each game for it's own item. This one game is a raw deal, the previous version is flawed. Mark the game with the tag, mark other games that are like that too, but don't go being vindictive over bad behaviour. That's not kosher.

Utter BS. This is as bad as anything EA has done.
Is there a "Worst indie company in the world, evar" award?

This is pretty hilarious. I am subscribed to the hub discussion topic and judging by the amount of posts that pop up there.... I mean, come on, people. Adventures are a pretty niche genre these days. Why alienate even more customers. What a bunch of pricks.

FTL, Lone survivor added more content free of charge....
Deus ex HR, blood bowl chaos edition - gave permanent discount for owners of the older versions.....
So am I going to buy this? Hell no!! not only they released a broken product on steam without even fixing it later, they also got the audacity to charge money for a fix they should have done long ago and some commentary for 5$.

This just further lowers my opinion of Daedalic. I have a non-Steam version of the game, and it has DRM that makes all the cutscenes, including the intro, impossible to watch for many people. You would have thought that by now you wouldn't have to use cracks to make a legally bought game playable. But of course Daedalic's response to all the customer complaints about it has been just accusing them of piracy and refusing to even acknowledge the problem.

in the retail copy of whispered world you get a puzzle, like they did in monkey island 1 and 2, only with this physical puzzle you are able to solve the anti piracy question. so explain how this DRM makes you not be able to play the game. except when you dont OWN the retail game and the puzzle... hmmm

I have the Telltale games adventure bundle version. You can play the game as such, but videos are unwatchable because of heavy stuttering, which is removed by applying a crack. You can read about it on Telltale games forum thread here, for example: http://www.telltalegames.com/community/discussion/comment/378009
IIRC it wasn't just the videos either, but the game in general was very sluggish, hogging huge amounts of CPU time before applying the crack.

I didn't wrote everyone have those problems, I said you "may" have them.
If you would read the community hub from the old game you would see a lot of people have problems.

I bought all three Deponia games from these assholes. Now I wish I hadn't :-/ There's no way I want to support borderline fraud.
"New content" my ass. What about people who don't want new content, but simply want the existing content that was sold to them, and which they bought with MONEY, to work correctly?

I wrote to Daedalic support and just got an answer: it looks like they are stepping back ! Extract:
"I completely understand where you are coming from and I'm glad to tell you that you will NOT have to pay for the Special Edition of The Whispered World; that upgrade will be for free if you already bought the game on Steam, GOG or similar shops.
These new information will be spread as soon as we can and hopefully it will reach everyone who is currently disappointed by the "old" news.
We are very sorry for the confusion and we appreciate your feedback a lot!
Kind regards,
Your Daedalic Support Team. "

Er... one of the devs actually wrote the 5 €/$ only within the first 3 months stuff on Steam. Let's hope this is the correct info now, but I somehow doubt it...

I know what the dev said early, I just can tell that I received this mail from Daedalic support less than half an hour ago from now... Let's wait :)

It's mostly likely after seeing the negative reaction they got. It's a question of taking 5$ from the few people that might have been willing to pay for this and losing on the company image front or taking back what you said and forgetting about that pocket change you were trying to milk previous buyers for. I would not be surprised if that dev post(or the whole thread) on steam vanishes by the time they give the official statement.

Never underestimate the power of an angry Internet mob.

Got another mail from Daedalic support, stating that they will make an official statement tomorrow. Let's cool down folks !

It's already tomorrow, dammit. My torch is extinguishing!

If this is true that's good news for all people that had problems with the old version.
Let's hope they indeed patched those problems properly in this new edition.

This is actually good news.
Hopes restored I suppose.

I have the game on GOG and it's now updated to the Special Edition without charge, FWIW.
Of course, they shouldn't have had to backpedal in the first place...

but what am I going to do with my torch and pitchfork now?

I remember playing Deponia long time after it's release and it had game-breaking bug at the cart puzzle for some people, I have no idea what was the common element for us causing it but that's not the matter.
Anyway, whichever route you choose during cart puzzle if you were one of people experiencing that bug, the cart was following the same path on the map so trial and error wasn't an option. Even if you solved the puzzle correctly by skill or luck (or walkthrough) the next scene wouldn't follow... The only solution was to skip puzzle clicking the button. Luckly, it had that option - I assume because they were aware their engine works crazy on some specs, not just because nowadays it seems like a good feature for some people so they could still complete the game. Personally, I was never a fan of puzzles based on sounds or music and TWW is guilty of that at some point, wish I could have skip it.
Are they going to patch it properly and charge for it too?
Comment has been collapsed.
It seems to be broken for a lot of people, but not everyone. Support is handing saved games in order to bypass problem areas. If you never had a problem, then you're part of the luckier group.
And no, there's no information about any bug fix being done with this release. All we know is that it got basic Steamworks integration, achievements (which seems to be non-Steam ones) and a developer's commentary.

WTF!!! on GOG the owners of the previous version of The Whispered World will receive this update for FREE!!!
http://www.gog.com/news/game_update_the_whispered_world_special_edition
why the hell GOG users get it for free and steam user have to pay!?!?!?!
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm sure most people own the game from a bundle so perhaps this is why they feel like being greedy fucks. A free update might get people to play it (or even replay it), but as of now I doubt there will be many interested in paying 5 more bucks.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well.. I picked it up from a bundle.. and not sure if I will ever get around to playing it. With reading this and looking into this for myself.
I know I will never play it now. Will just rot in my steam account. I admit it I would have been POed if I had picked this game up for full price ( or even during a "sale" outside of a bundle. )
I will be honest I will still probably end up giving it a try later on regardless. Will be a long, long time for now though since I have a backlog now.

If you use playfire there's no harm in just opening it to idle for a few minutes or so
(of course, hoping that their notoriously buggy tracking system works for you)

just came across this and can't believe it,
Daedalic the Dev from The Whispered World has removed their game from the steam store, as you may know its broken at some points and to play through it to the end you may need some savegames which they hand out if you ask them on support just so you can continue the game.
Also many crashes are reported and overall many technical issues on the community hub.
Now there is this new entry http://store.steampowered.com/app/268540
It adds steamworks integration, trading cards, ingame achievements, soundtrack and a dev commentary hence it's called now a special edition.
For this few changes which is more like a little update they rerelease the game and previous buyers have to buy again.
Old entry is removed from store.
WTF
EDIT:
there will be a solution in the first three months to upgrade.
But you have to pay 5.00$/5.00€
EDIT2:
Devs listened and changed their mind, we now should all have gotten the new version added to our account.
That's good news.
