just came across this and can't believe it,

Daedalic the Dev from The Whispered World has removed their game from the steam store, as you may know its broken at some points and to play through it to the end you may need some savegames which they hand out if you ask them on support just so you can continue the game.
Also many crashes are reported and overall many technical issues on the community hub.
Now there is this new entry http://store.steampowered.com/app/268540
It adds steamworks integration, trading cards, ingame achievements, soundtrack and a dev commentary hence it's called now a special edition.

For this few changes which is more like a little update they rerelease the game and previous buyers have to buy again.
Old entry is removed from store.

WTF

EDIT:
there will be a solution in the first three months to upgrade.
But you have to pay 5.00$/5.00€

EDIT2:
Devs listened and changed their mind, we now should all have gotten the new version added to our account.
That's good news.

Buy the new content and we will add a patched game, free of charge!!

Do you have a source for the last paragraph? Since obviously they'd be angling for some sort of Best Customer Screw award if they didn't offer free upgrades. Conversely, if they are offering the upgrade for free, then it's good they've finally gotten their shit together, even if late.

Still the now removed game will be left as it is and will stay broken, so previous buyers who want to get a fixxed version have to pay again. (at least if there are any fixxes at all, but I don't think they will rerelease a broken version of the game)

Looks like a shoe-in for the 2014 Best Customer Screw Award! Let's see if someone gets to top it this year. Some folks just don't want customers, I guess!

Aww... Don't say that, EA hasn't even come out with any major titles yet this year.

We have to pay $5 for fixes to make the game we already own work. And only if we pay up in the first three months, otherwise we'll have to pay full price....

If they wanted to sell the commentary and soundtrack as dlc, that would have been fine. But fixes to make the game playable, plus achievements and cards should be free.

How are you sure that the Special Edition will work? Maybe they won't correct any of the issues!

Lol, Now that you mention it, I suppose they haven't specifically said they fixed any bugs...

I have hope they haven't lost their minds 'that' badly though.

How so? Those of us that had the game just had to pay a small fee to get the DLC's that were not in our game. Buying the DLC's separate was a worse deal. I bought the GOTY version (with having the original and a few DLC's) and got great value.

I own the game and the DLCs. It would still cost me 4€ to buy the Director's Cut. This isn't reduced by Steam sales; in fact, during the winter sale, the 80% already-own-the-game discount disappeared and a 75% off put it at 5€.

Just to be clear, I don't complain for what they did, I love Square Enix, instead. They are the best publisher for price policy and their products are almost always high quality games (and with a great support for non-English languages). I'm happy they have improved that masterpiece of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and I don't care about that extra fee.

I hate Square Enix. And their new products are always low quality. In Directors Cut of Deus Ex they deleted my language (subtitles). For me Directors Cut is downgraded version of the game.

I had kind of the same thought, although DX:HR:DC is sort of a mixed bag, i.e. there's plenty complaints from people having performance problems with the Director's Cut, and there's real improvements like integration of DLC and boss battles - ideally, I'd want to own both.

I've only played about 5 hours of The Whispered World myself but I didn't experience any problems up to that point - not sure if I've been lucky or the bugs show up later. So leaving that matter aside, it boils down to "have you liked the game enough to buy it again?" everyone will have a different answer for that, and one that might even change based on the price being asked.

I haven't activated my copy from humble bundle yet, I suppose I'll get the shitty version anyway if I activate it after they release this one.

I had no issue playing and finishing the game on Steam. But maybe it's because my computer is 5 years old...

Unfortunately, you can't review the game if you haven't played it. The only people able to review it will be those who didn't mind paying a second time for the game.

I wont condemn ppl who will seek the new game in torrent store. These days its not enough to pay for game. DLC Quest live :)

The only thing they added to the game itself is steam cloud/achievements/cards... all things you can't get from a torrented game. Unless someone really want the soundtrack and commentaries.

Now, the third Deponia that I was planning on buying... that one will probably be coming from an unofficial source.

Deponia is a great series that deserves support, and keep that support for the great products too, but not for this "Special Edition" cr*p! ;)

Devs that take anti-consumer measures like these deserve no support.

They want me to pay again for the game I already bought? They can kiss my money goodbye, for good.

I says "unlockable achievements" in the description but you're right, there are no achievements listed on the game page.

They could be in-game achievements that aren't synced with Steam. There are a number of games that do that.

That's been fixed. There are "real" achievements now.

I'm glad I never got around to finishing the original version of the game, because that really is a slap in the face. And it's quite surprising as well, since "Harvey's new eyes" was broken for a long time, where you couldn't get the achievements done, yet they fixed those for free.

They should have just patched the original game and released the extra content as DLC.

Adding cards to an already existing game brings an extra revenue stream. Alienating your previous buyers will have the opposite effect.

Instead of getting an update/patch they re-release the patched game for you to buy again.

The devs of Zombie Driver did the same thing, releasing a new version with "HD" content and Steam Cards. They also offered a loyalty discount, but that doesn't apply anymore, so anybody with the an original copy must pay full price if they want an upgrade.

I hate it when companies pull that kind of back-handed bullshit.
