Do you have a source for the last paragraph? Since obviously they'd be angling for some sort of Best Customer Screw award if they didn't offer free upgrades. Conversely, if they are offering the upgrade for free, then it's good they've finally gotten their shit together, even if late.

We have to pay $5 for fixes to make the game we already own work. And only if we pay up in the first three months, otherwise we'll have to pay full price....

If they wanted to sell the commentary and soundtrack as dlc, that would have been fine. But fixes to make the game playable, plus achievements and cards should be free.

That reminds me of Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

I haven't activated my copy from humble bundle yet, I suppose I'll get the shitty version anyway if I activate it after they release this one.

I had no issue playing and finishing the game on Steam. But maybe it's because my computer is 5 years old...

I've beaten the original game from Steam and I had no problems. I hope the new version will have achievements.

I'm glad I never got around to finishing the original version of the game, because that really is a slap in the face. And it's quite surprising as well, since "Harvey's new eyes" was broken for a long time, where you couldn't get the achievements done, yet they fixed those for free.

They should have just patched the original game and released the extra content as DLC.

Adding cards to an already existing game brings an extra revenue stream. Alienating your previous buyers will have the opposite effect.

Instead of getting an update/patch they re-release the patched game for you to buy again.

The devs of Zombie Driver did the same thing, releasing a new version with "HD" content and Steam Cards. They also offered a loyalty discount, but that doesn't apply anymore, so anybody with the an original copy must pay full price if they want an upgrade.

I hate it when companies pull that kind of back-handed bullshit.
