it's kinda seller's error for showing the key like that, if it wasn't you activating it, then it could be someone else, or maybe even no one, but adding it to your account to after remove it for the reason that you don't want the game, lol man that's shitty, also there is a fact that Prey was removed from Steam, and it's considered a rare game now, so you basically removed a rare game and also fucked up the seller. Good job.

Looking at your comments you all seem so shocked and without words, because i randomly found a cd-key and activated it?? :D
It's not the seller's fault that he didn't censor the key, but now it's mine rly, and about pollice knocking on my door? :D. FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS . There are much worse things that happen in the world and you make it look like WW3 just started, just because i tried activating a cd-key out of curiocity and now all the steam collectors, keyboard warriors and SJW are against me. I would never steal, scam or do something againts my morals or something else that's illegal, but all you keyboard warriors make me look bad just cuz i activated a steam key found from the internet. If you were in my place what would you do? Just stare at it?

You activated it, then removed it because you didn't want it. Activating it in the first place is a pretty shitty thing to do, but to activate it just so no-one else could use it...?
Comment has been collapsed.
Nah, I would activate it and then delete it because if I don't want it no one else can have it
Comment has been collapsed.
Just to explain it to you better.
You found a key and activated it. Lucky move, nothing wrong wrong, but the seller lost a key.
You got bored with it, even if it was a rare game and removed it. Stupid move, and a a***ole move too, because it wasn't your key in the beginning.
Then you come here and brag about it. "Hey guys, I found a wallet with a lot of money and data in it, I could warn the owner, but I destroyed everything LOL"
It's a good thing to do? No.

I would have messaged the person telling them to censor the picture, because that would be the honorable thing to do.
Theft: In common usage, theft is the taking of another person's property without that person's permission or consent with the intent to deprive the rightful owner of it.
Can the seller or buyer of the game activate the key now? No? Then you stole.
Comment has been collapsed.
You stole a game, bragged about it and now expect people not to care? That's not how it works. And saying that there are worse things in the world is just stupid.
I would never steal
Except that you just did. He didn't give you the key to activate. He never offered you the key, but you took it. How is that not stealing? Going by that logic, you can go to a market, take something someone's selling without paying for it and then just walk away like nothing happened...

No...I would tell the guy about his stupid mistake. Stealing is stealing, even if the victim is an idiot and facilitates your theft. More so, the fact that the guy's so stupid, makes it even worse. Because you took advantage of his stupidity. Its like going on the playground and beating up the autistic retarded kid just to show how tough you are. The fact that you did it all for nothing, since you didn't even want the game, but yet still deprived someone who genuinely wanted it from getting it, makes you even more of an a-hole. Bragging about it on Steam Gifts, though, I barely have any words for that... You've truly reached a new, never before seen level of douchiness... Hope you're proud of yourself.

Picture was publicly visible and code could be activated by anyone
Wow, so famous situation, same thing was about MellyMelly, remember it, people? Kekeke, dat drama, people SO want to be mawkishly good (is that kind of SJW metastasis or what, looks ridiculous) that could justify one and anathematize the other not even thinking a second about what they accuse or defend. hardscopin420 is a pretty cool guy, he does what he wants to do and not leaning to any shameful schmaltz, I give him an official virtual Badge of XYECOC's Deference.

It's 2 days, so yes.
The global political tone is shifting to radical right in the past years, and this also brings out some of the rampant homophobia. You'll get used to seeing it everywhere, it'll be just like antisemitism in the past… well, 2000+ years. Kinda part of everyday life, like it or not.

I don't assume he is a homophobe, I just said he used a homophobic slur.
And using it as a synonym for ."idiot" or "dumb" contributes to make those words seem acceptable as insults, which keeps a general homophobia going.
Same thing with racial slurs.

Of course, I'm not going to go further down the rabbit hole by pointing out that "idiot" and "dumb" are ABLEIST slurs. ;-)

A graffiti is totally different since you can't own the graffiti but you can own the wall. If you take the wall with you it is theft.
Copying is something else than theft. If you steal something you take it. But if you copie something the original thing is intact and working as intended.

But you can't call it a theft, this situation is not theft, it's a lost-and-found. Owner of the key clearly lost his concentration and, in the end, lost his key. Same as your bike, but bike example is pretty tough, it's hard to lose a bike, but let's take a phone example, if you leave your phone at the table in cafe and go to the toilet a person who take it with him is a thief, but not the one, who took your phone, that you've lost, that fell off a pocket due to your lack of concentration. Same with the key, if you don't know how to work with steam keys you kinda lost your concentration and lost the key, very simple. Ignorance does not release from the responsibility, should I say, from any possible conequences. I say it the second time this week, geez.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes I can call it like that because it is.
And it is called theft by finding but this is not even the case because you actually know the owner so it is not finding since the key is not abandoned.
Taking somebody elses property without permission to do so is not right.
Comment has been collapsed.
So if you find a phone that someone lost you keep it and make it your own phone? A DECENT person would go through the contacts to find the owner and return it to them.

Sorry, but why should I make an effort if the man who lost something didn't make the effort himself to not lose it? It could work in some kind of utopian society, but we live, like, on the war, so I don't think we should deny the opportunity to take a spare bullet in hope to live another minute. Like on SG, entering GA's with cards ;) Nice is just a 4-letter word. And decent is 6.

How do you know that they did not make an effort to not lose it? Failure is not always a result of not trying to succeed. And you should make an effort for someone else because that's a kind thing to do. If you're not able to take joy in seeing someone else being happy, well, that would make you a really unpleasant person to be around.
In psychology something like what you describe would probably be considered to be a mild case of a Narcissistic personality disorder.
I don't think we should deny the opportunity to take a spare bullet in hope to live another minute.
And that's a really irrelevant statement as it talks about an entirely different situation. Returning a lost item for someone else won't shorten or prolong your life.

If each and every person would think that it requires an utopian society for being a little kind like you do, then we would be living in a distopia. Surprise! The world is not a utopia and people can still do nice things. Or act like jerks and blame it on the society.

Except this isn't how the law works. Taking something that is not rightfully yours (and is rightfully someone else) is stealing ... plain and simple. There's no way around that, it's pretty cut and dry.
So just because someone lost their phone does not mean you can legally keep it. Same goes with this key, it was legally in the seller's possession, not the OP's, which means the OP stole it.
Comment has been collapsed.
This is the law outlined by a majority of governments. Not my own personal law. You can't just take property that isn't yours ... it's illegal basically everywhere.
Comment has been collapsed.
Just because anyone could have done it doesn't mean the person that did do it is not a thief. The seller was obviously naive to post that image but that doesn't make taking advantage of it ok. To use someone else's example, if someone goes into a store for a moment and leaves their bike outside unlocked, it doesn't make it ok for someone else to ride off with it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh really???? Stealing is still stealing, no matter what the object taken is... An act of taking something that does NOT BELONG to you does not become any less a theft just cause the victim of that theft is a moron and his stupidity facilitated said theft.

not cool... why you do that ? ...blacklisted for sure

Why on earth would you randomly search for something that you don't want on eBay? What's the whole point of this thread anyway? Do you feel proud on making someone mistake exposed?
Comment has been collapsed.
Do you make a diference between physical and digital?
Comment has been collapsed.
There is no difference, you can buy a physical disk with the code on it or buy it digital...

We're really at the point that we do need to consider real life situation and the internet as the same thing. Seeing as how prevalent the internet is in our society now.

The damage is real, not virtual.
Many people buy old games just for the key and without the key the value falls.
That the seller was careless is evident, but this does not justify the crime.
No one here is a saint, we all have done some shit, but boast about is mindless! The only thing he should do is buy the game, learning from error, instead of looking for absurd explanations.

. If you were in my place what would you do? Just stare at it?
Considering there are more items like this on ebay and i didn't check to see if they would work or not....i guess so, we just stare at it

That's a different key... how do you know someone took it without trying yourself?

If you would be a good guy, you would have contacted the auction creator and gave him a hint about his mistake instead of posting it here.
"Hey look, my neighbour forgot to close his door and went to his job, go grab everything!"
Once you get into a situation where someone else is going to exploit a human mistake of yours, you will get what i mean.

Why in the name of all gods are you proud of the thing you did and even share it with the whole SG community?
Not only everyone will tell you how low of a person you are but will also blacklist you. Hope the 5 days ban helps you.
