well, apart from having real life and buying heaps of games on sales so that I can't even play them all - I have one more problem. it is called australian internet and their stupid FUP - their limits are ridiculous (like in Europe 7 years ago!) so since there are more people in my apartment, I can download 1 or 2 games a month, not more... :(

A cap is when you can only download a certain amount a month, say 20 GB is a common one in the UK. If you go beyond it, you pay overuse fees which can get ridiculous if you're a gamer (£5 per 5 GB over the limit was mine. Last Christmas, I ended up going £90 over the limit blushie).

oh, thx for the explanation. in here - we dont need to pay, only the speed drops down to around 80 kbps, so with 5 computers and couple of phones in our place (all students) we can hardly access emails... at least we dont need to pay anything extra :) but back in Czech Republic we dont have any limits since late 2005

Oh, god, that's awful on one PC, let alone spread between five of them. Fortunately, after that £90 incident, I just upgraded to an unlimited cap, but I do get slowed down during peak hours if I go a little overboard a couple of months in a row.

expensive, seriously? I'll tell you something - our internet connection is 4 mb/sec down, 1mb/sec up, limit is 50 GB during the day and 70 GB during the night for the whole month and once you reach any of the limits, you'll go down to about 80 kb/s and this all costs us 70 AUD (same as USD) per month :)

I remember those days. Basically steam chat was your only video game....

Man, that must have been horrible...good thing its gone now :-D.
I never had to deal with caps thankfully, feel bad for those that do though...

Out of the games I've gifted to strangers most remained unplayed for month after. Even the ones that people asked for. Admittedly, I've only gifted 3-4 games, but still. It's annoying and disrespectful.
The guy that won the great gift pile giveaway only played Skyrim for half an hour. Other than that he only played pre-owned games.

I know how you feel. Most of them do indeed get around playing them once they have their time cleared up about it.
People who "play" TF2 are usually idling. Usually. But yes, there are people who just enter giveaways to collect games. I feel bad when I don't play the games I've won, so I always to try rack up a couple hours on them. You shouldn't really to try and force people to enjoy the stuff they won because it would end up like torture.

I have very little gaming time, but if I won a game -especially a multiplayer game I could play with the givaway host- I'd certainly at least install it, unless I bid on it just to take it to Steam Trading and bargain for games off my wishlist (I have no game budget, so trading is how I must get anything I want).
At any rate, a game I won would almost certainly be played by SOMEONE.

I have won metro, the witcher 2 and the booster trooper. Havent played any of them because my gaming pc died a year ago. When i get enough money to build a new one from the ground up including new desk, speakers and monitors i will play them.

He's played Time Gentleman, and I'm pretty sure Steam doesn't track offline game time.

Some people here who won 0 games can be really desperate and they just enter every single entry they see, without realizing that winning means nothing if you win a game that you don't even want.
Bloody idiots!

yeah some pepole maybe be like that but not me i got a game from a friend saw i played like soon 10 hours in to the game

Dude, if you really care about that, then you shouldn't be doing giveaways. Instead, give your free copies to friends or people you know that really wants to play. I have a shitload of games installed on my pc, but I only play a few, not because I don't like them, just because I have to be in the mood to play them, I don't know, maybe it's just me.

Pretty much this, i have a good amount of games, and just because i have one doesnt mean i have to play it till my eyes bleed, its all up to the mood i have.

Same here. I won multipli copies of games that interest me, but most of time I'm not in the mood of playing them. And MP games are more addicting than a SP game imo.

I have gifted games to friends that never played them, or haven't yet, I really don't care :-P.

lol, you're right. I thought he was browsing from giveaways he did, apparently he's just browsing every giveaway he lost because he's a sore loser and trying to find fault with the winners.

What happened to that jerk who said he enters giveaway to use won games for trading? I see that he deleted his post (and my and everyone elses replies with it)

I FEEL REALLY BAD ABOUT THIS BUT LET ME EXPLAINNN MYSELFFF.
Some very nice and generous soul offered me a free copy of HL2, and naturally, I ecstatically thanked him and right away installed. However, I have yet to play through HL1 so I don't want to spoil the gameplay of its sequel. Moreover, I'm saving HL1 for when I get back to school (our internet limits multiplayer games, so it'll be single player for awhile for me!) so that I have something to do. Thus, HL2 won't be touched for awhiiiileee. I feel bad cause I really am grateful for the gift and do want to play it! So person who gifted me that, if you see this, please know I willlllll get around to HL2 in the future!
And yeah, perhaps other people out there have similar circumstances and whatnot.

I have a lot of games that I've actually had to spend hard-earned money on that I haven't installed for weeks or even months. There are lots of reasons why someone wouldn't install it immediately. E.g. school/work/social life getting in the way of game playing, wanting to play other games with friends in the limited time that they do have. Not to mention disk-space! My wife bought me RAGE and F.3.A.R. for my birthday and it was almost a month before I installed them because I've got something like 200 games installed and can't afford to get another hard-drive just at the moment. I eventually uninstalled a few games that I hardly ever play! I might feel differently if someone hadn't unpacked the game and kept it in their inventory to trade it, but there are too many legitimate reasons why someone may not have installed the game (or installed it and barely played it) to make a big deal.
Also, I've barely played games (like F3AR/RAGE/Arkham City etc) that I got recently because they involve a more significant investment of time. A quick 10-15 minutes tooling around in TF2, CS:S or Peggle is easy to grab but I like to sit down and commit 2-3 hours to story-driven single-player games.

Well I won a game just before Christmas and I haven't had time to get to it... Eventhough I really want to play it, there's been game on sales at Christmas that appealed me more, I try to have a social life and there's university... How come you can blame someone for doing something else than playing games ?
I won monkey Island, but I got gifted Saint Row 3 for my birthday and I decided to play it before, what's the problem in waiting to clear your backlog a little ?

I was just browsing through my entries list, checking out the winners and clicking their profiles to see how much they've played the game they have won. I was surprised to see that out of 10 winners, only like 2 have actually played the game they have won. I don't know about the rest, but i only enter to win games i really want to play. If i won a game, i'd quickly install it and start enjoying it.
I saw someone that won Fallout 3, not even have the game installed. He was online and what was he playing? TF2! I'd be disappointed to see this if i were the one that gave away the game. I'd want to see the person that won, actually enjoy the game.
