I always wondered is it awkward for them when a blind person reads "do not touch" in braille?
But not sure what to say about this whole steam mobile authenticator thing.

thanks for the info ... still reluctant to activate it

if you're the "journalist guy" - how about you drop your wisdom into a more suitable word/phrase for it?
i didn't backslash coercion for nothing + valves methods might not be criminal in any way, still it boils down to extortion >
"you do that or ... your items get frozen, you get no discount, you get no support, you're 2nd class"

I'm just here to curb some extreme and unnecessary escalation of descriptive words.

You're one of many that is bombarding Reddit (instead they got locked out) because Steam was insistent enough pushing a buggy app to all users by any means necessary (this and escrow service).
I never saw a single complaint about SteamGuard email users except few are telling lost trade confirmation which can be fixed unlike being locked out and waiting the notorious Steam Support.

I have the SteamGuard email thing since ... forever.
Never had issue with it .... well i did.
It sometimes take like 10 min to get that trade confirmation mail , but thats partly cause email provider is kinda garbage .
So i was like , hey they made app for the phones .
So i can feel even safer against dem russian scamers , etc .
I downlaod the app , run the setup , etc thing.
I should get a Super imba secret one time in my life code .
And the app crashes .
Have to restart my phone .
No special code thingy , app says its still unverified or something like that .
I try to log on steam on pc , and nope you cant ... i need a code from my app.
And app , doesnt give me code :)
So yeah , Nice App thingy Gaben .

¯_(ツ)_/¯
As long as they aren't planning on forcing it, like "Trading with mobile-app authentificator only". People without smartphones or tablets would sure be mad. In my particular case, what's the point of a cellphone, if i don't leave my house most of the time due to my medical condition. A stable DSL/Phone connection is all i need.
Also, why not use this system for something more useful instead? Like age veriification, to get all those AO rated games on Steam, which Valve doesn't sell in some regions.

Sadly that is almost the case.. if you don´t use mobile-authentification, all your trades & market-interactions will be delayed by 3 days. Might not make much of a difference for ocational-tradings, but for people like me, who finance their whole steam-libary with trading only, "3 days waiting" is VERY close to "no trading at all" because the best opportuinies are gone if you dont react immideatly.
And yeah, for germans like us, an age-verification for uncensored access would be much better instead :)

i've been using it since it exists and i only get a 5% god damn gabe...

They took the truth and mangled it harder than a Stretch Armstrong action figure.
The discount is only 5% - the only time it is any more is if Steam was going to overcharge you like crazy anyway for an item selling for a penny or two.
Anything more than 5% is purely accidental, and only because if you sell the item for a penny, Steam charges a ridiculous amount extra on top (if User A sells for 1 cent, User B has to pay 3 cents thanks to 1 cent for Steam plus 1 cent for developers). Now, they discount you one penny - or 33% - so User B only pays 2 cents (even though Steam still charges a ridiculous 100% fee).

I think that the "discount" goes to to the seller, so if they feel like doing a 5% off of an item, you will get 5% than you set the price to
edit: sorry, just read your example

Who cares about these false discounts, when you will further need to either use a mobile phone each time you log into Steam, or will have 3 days escrow for all of the inventory trades you send.

heyo, would you bother to trying if that goes for selling as well? (= pay no steam tax for selling?)
lets say if you list some item like for~ 2$ ? (was specifically thinking about CSGO/TF2 Keys)

I stopped purchasing stuff via Steam market when Valve introduced trade restrictions for newly bought items. So yeah, I don't care about discounts at all. Now I only use the market to sell things and when it comes to getting something I want, I just trade instead.

5% - 33% 0.01$ - 0,05$ they mean steam trying to steal more off our money i guess i mean they are way to much from the steam market they take like 0.10$ every $1.00

I think that percent are the Valve Taxes.
33% is that cent less for 0.03 transactions (now 0.02)
Notice this, if you put a low price card it charges just 1 cent out of the full price, instead of 2.
Usually it was "Gains=Total price -0.01(for Valve taxes)-0.01(for the company itself)" until 0.20€. (can't say anything about .21 cents and more, now that they hid the transaction informations in the email a part from your gains.)
I don't think that all the companies that put items ready to sell on the market would be good to cut their part of the share.
I still hate the Steam Athenticator thingy, but I don't think you can say steam did it to earn more. They did it to have a back-up plan for the current petition that is getting signed online to remove the authenticator policies.
With these new "sales" they'll have more people using that function, so it will be harder to take it down.
AND also they're getting more personal infos, gaining more cell phone numbers.

And when I was ready to say that "nobody will use this retarded mobile authenticator", then Gabe offered discounts for whoever did, and I ended up downloading the steam app on my phone and using this authenticator. :B Well, at least, I'm now level 50. xD

But how do you know which item gets which discount? Does it highlight it for you (the mobile authenticator user)?
Edit: Nevermind. Found it on reddit http://i.imgur.com/on7yDGB.png It doesn't show percentage, only the original and discounted price

I don't have a smarmy phone. So I'd have to use an emulator or something to try to get it to work. But I don't care about buying cards, only selling. So for me it's good, a little more market activity today than would have been otherwise.

Seems like Steam is giving a market discount to users of the phone app authenticator.
5-33% could net you quite a decent savings if buying cards or keys in anticipation of the Winter Sale.
Deal is on until Dec 17.
