This is sort of an odd question, but to preface, I have so many codes to give away. Over the years I collected so many duplicates and I was glad to find this site to give back and receive from a community!

With that said, with my recent giveaway for "I Am Fish" I had entered in a code for "DOOM" and the winner let me know. Luckily, I was able to fix it and I told him to just keep DOOM as well, but that made me wonder if there was a way to first verify which game my keys I am assigning in the giveaway actually even goes to.

yDoes Steam or anything out there, really, offer a wat to determine what actual game your key activates?

I can check myself in Steam with the intended key/code, to see if it's still awaiting activation, but you'll only get the message: "This Steam account already owns the product(s) associated with this activation code. Click OK to proceed to installation". -- but it doesn't actually tell you what the game name is.

So is there a way to verify or tell which game your key activates?

I'll leave this up in the case anyone ever wants to know how to do this!

Use the SteamDB Extension: https://steamdb.info/extension/

You'll get the initial "This Steam account already owns the product(s) contained in this offer. To access them, visit your library in the Steam client." notice, but when you click the 'SteamDB' link, it will bring you to the actual page showing the game

If you activate via client and own the game already, the install windows will tell you which game it is.

Be careful with both ways though, since you might activate a different edition than the one you have and the key gets used. A bad example for that is Paradox, since they use a lot of different packages.

Besides these there is no way to figure it out without redeeming.

Well in my case, I already own the game I'm giving away - so at least with this method I can at least verify I'm giving the correct code away, you know? At least that's what I gathered from going with the instructions I was outlining.

You can also use SteamDB's bot to check keys for games that you don't already own.

https://steamdb.info/keys/

The bot will try try to activate any keys that you submit to it. If it fails to activate a key (e.g. because it owns it), it'll return a link to its package. Keys for packages that it doesn't own are activated and lost.

You can see which games the bot already owns by clicking on "View already owned products"

As far as i know there is no way to find out without activating the key. If you don't know what game the key activates. You have only one choice which is giving it without making a giveaway. There are threads for that.
These are for what i said:
Orphan keys drop thread
Anti ninjas key drops (no keys in messages though !)
Or you can give the keys to a friend to try. Maybe he activates a game he wanted and be happy :D
