I recently watched the Anime Lucky Star and I liked it, Now I'm looking for English Dubbed anime with girls as the main characters.

Can also be only 1 girl as a main character like Squid Girl :3

Edit : So what if I want to watch dubs? I want to enjoy the show, if I want to read I'll grab a book or something.

Ergo Proxy

Ghost in the Shell (the movies, not the series)

Gurren Lagann (Yoko is one of the main characters, anyway)

Witch Hunter Robin

Not sure why you are not suggesting the anime series for ghost in the shell as well... it is good.

Superior, even.

I'll also echo Witch Hunter Robin, too. Though I do have a soft-spot for both paranormal oriented things and slow-burning series.

Because it is devoid of philosophical monologues, and features Tachikomas, which are extremely annoying characters.

I loved the tachikomas :( You just don't have taste!

The Tachikomas I can understand, the philosophical monologues not so much. The random insertion of pointless philosophical droning is a pretty grating thing in most anime I watch, often because the philosophy is only loosely connected, and often bounces around illogically. "If you eat a burger, then obviously you are a terrorist because animals get scared when they die, therefore if you don't arrest meat-eaters you are a hypocrite!"

Well, that, or an otherwise okay/good anime randomly reaching a finale where out of nowhere giant robotic representations of light and darkness emerge, have a brief conversation about the futility of mankind, and then have a 10-second fight scene full of yelling, and then scroll the credits to moody music and pretend it gave any form of closure relevant to story whatsoever. Yeah, philosophical monologues have this habit of being an indicator of impending deus ex machina. Every anime. I wait for it. With slitted eyes and gritted teeth.

Gets me errytime.

Since you want an anime with a girl for a main character, try Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Dunno, if you wanted to watch subs I would gladly make you a list, but since you only want dubs, I can't help you with that.

English dub? WTH animes with english dub sound so gay how can you even watch them? I'd better watch an anime in japanese without subs or with subs rather than watching it with English DUB WTFFFFFFFF

He's got every right to watch anime with dubs, it's his choice (although most of us agree that subs are better).
Believe me I hate dubs just as much as you do (imo the only good ones are for Disney movies (at least the Portuguese ones are top notch)), especially since they don't put any effort in choosing the right voice actors -.-

Someone having a preference for voice acting in their native language is totally cause for homophobic remarks.

Asshole.

My favorite anime, not sure if there's an English dubbed version out there because I don't think any anime should be watched like that.. But check out Samurai Champloo

Epic, relatively short, and sweet :D

Also, facepalmed at the amont of people preferring emotionless robot speak to real actors. Seriously, to me both english are foreign languages, and there are maybe 2 or 3 good Japanese voice actors that can act with voice instead of reciting it. I can name at least dozen English roles superior to any Japanese one - if only because they are from Western culture and their emotion range is compatible with mine, so I don't lose any context. But hey, if you prefer this or this show of subs genius, whatever floats your boat -.-"

Well... if you mean for fanservice then Ranma 1/2 has a lot of that. The main character is a girl only half the time though and it's mainly a comedy. But since it's a harem series there are a lot of real girls to go around... and a lot of fanservice. The dub is quite good (in my opinion at least).

There is also Sailor Moon... hehe.... phaha... haaahahahahaaah... sorry, couldn't say the Sailor Moon dub was any good with a straight face. :D

Death No-Oh. Girls as main characters. Well, does Hellsing count? The main character IS a girl...Then again, I wouldn't exactly call it a "good" anime...The dubbing is pretty damn good, though. Damn it, all the dubbed anime I like have women in supporting roles.

I would suggest Soul Eater if the dubbing wasn't total shit...Elfen Lied is said to be one of the best anime ever made, but I can't judge the dub as I haven't seen it...

Sorry, can't help.

Can confirm the dubbing of Hellsing as being "badass" if not insanely good. Trigun also has great dubbing. Though I don't really think you can say those have "girls main characters"....

If Elfen Lied is considered one of the best then anime is definitely not for me.

I'm surprised how many people are hating on dub... people have different tastes (I personally prefer sub).

For some reason the only thing that strikes me as an anime that has particularly good dub is probably Haruhi... I haven't watched too many dub to give a good one to you though >.>

It's because America doesn't have a professional voice acting industry like Japan does.

Permalink

No, it's because Japanese studios don't often hire from the American, professional, voice-acting industry (possibly due to monetary concerns).

Yea, that's not how it works.
Whatever studio in Japan licensed the property to the foreign distributor has nothing to do with the dubbing/localization process.

I was under the impression that if you had enough money to throw around, you could get anyone you want to do the voices and required rewriting, but perhaps I'm wrong.

In any case, dubbing is usually much inferior to subs (which can also suck).

There is no such thing as good dubbed anime.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes there is. They're not common, but they exist. FMA is a good example. It doesn't work for shows like Lucky Star, but more "western" shows like FMA or Cowboy Bebop have pretty good dubs.
