Description

I'm making this giveaway to raise awareness for the re-release of this good game! :) Please, read the whole description! Or you can skip the synopsis if you don't really care. :P

Disgaea is a japanese strategy RPG (tactics) developed by Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) originally for the Playstation 2 in 2003. It was also released on the PSP in 2006, and on the Nintendo DS 2 years later (2008). This release on the PC, 13 years later, is not just a port (according to the Steam page) and has some new additions as listed below:

  • Updated UI and textures
  • Keyboard/Mouse and controller support
  • Includes all content from Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness (GA creator note: this is the name of the PSP version, which had some new content)
  • New Steam features, such as Achievements, Cloud Saves, Badges, and trading cards

Besides that, it has those features:

  • An SRPG from the most prolific SRPG creators in the world, Nippon Ichi Software
  • Choose from over 40 unique character types
  • Even with a max level of 9999, use Transmigration to start all over again, but your characters will be even stronger per level!
  • Delve into the Item World, a randomly generated dungeon world, to level up your items!
  • With max level characters and leveled-up items, dish out millions of points of damage!
  • Over-the-top battle animations
  • Geo Panels - A puzzle game within a Strategy RPG
  • Lift & Throw - Throw your allies up ledges to reach enemies in hard-to-reach spots, or toss your enemies around instead!
  • A zany story set in the Netherworld, where the notions of good and evil are reversed

About the game:
Two years after the death of his father, Overlord Krichevskoy, the demon prince Laharl awakens to discover that the Netherworld is in turmoil. With unlikely allies, his devious vassal Etna and the angel trainee Flonne, he must battle his way to supremacy to retake the throne and become the next Overlord. Experience the SRPG classic, now on PC!

The synopsis doesn't say it, but this game satirizes the RPG genre, and is supposed to be really funny. :)

Currently, the only version available for preorder is the Digital Deluxe Dood Edition, that comes with the base game, Digital Artbook and Digital Soundtrack. It'll be released on February 24th and I'm not sure if the current price is gonna change for this edition and the base game will be sold for this price. So I set the GA to end on the 23. That way, you can still preorder it if you're interested in buying the game but didn't win it here. You can also get the game (Steam only) at Humble Store for the same price! (I don't know when this sale will end)

If it sells well, maybe NIS will bring more of their SRPGs to PC! :D

PS: I'm not getting the game (yet) as I already have it on the PS2.

EDIT: Bad news, everyone. :( Due to licensing restrictions, they'll be unable to provide the complete digital soundtrack. They'll be providing a soundtrack with 10 remastered songs instead of the original 32. AND the soundtrack will only be available during the pre-purchase, so be sure to get it now if you want the soundtrack.

Passing for others who will bump it in their backlog :D

Did you sell the cartridge? And you're welcome!

Sold it all. Actually, I'm exaggerating ... the control pad wasn't working well. I think whoever bought it was good with electronics and said he probably could easily fix the control pad by replacing some springs or something.

At the time I was thinking of "upgrading" to a PSP. Never did, though.

I used to love this on PS2. Tried one or two of the sequels, but none really matched Hours of Darkness.
cheers, Coezo!

I've only played a little bit of the first one and the third one (on the PS3). I also have some PSX and PS2 games on my backlog. :(

Same here. I've been doing a ps2 backlog cleaning marathon in the last couple of months and i'm almost done. just 10 left. The problem is that i was a huge jrpg fan 10 years ago so all the games require lots and lots and lots of grinding. it's a nightmare!

P.S. Thanks for the giveaway :D

Exactly! Almost all of my games are RPG, so it'll take a long time to play them all. :/

Good luck!

I'm glad Disgaea is coming to PC, it's too expensive for me so I hope RNG will favor me this time.
I tried playing PSP version on the emulator but the controls were so awful I found it to be unplayable. It should be enjoyable playing it with a mouse though. Also, is it just me or do those sprites on steam's storepage screenshots look low-res?

And thank you for awesome giveaway!

Well, good luck! :)

I think the character sprites are the same as always. They only updated the textures (it's noticeable!).

And you're welcome. :)

Thanks for the chance, "coezo"! :P
I never had the opportunity to play the game on its numerous releases on other platforms (PS2, PSP, NDS). This looks to be the definitive edition.

I think NIS had another game appear on SteamDB, Firefly Diary. There hasn't been many updates though.

Well, thank you for the info. I didn't know about that game, but it's not the same genre as the usual NIS games. Interesting!
