I don't really miss them because there are still plenty of these kinds of games available. In fact, I'd argue that there are more of these in-depth, but not necessarily the best looking games released now than at any other time. Out of curiosity, what are some of your favorite games that you'd put in this category?

Well, not to look too far - XCOM is far less complex than X-COM.
Also I was surprised at the emotional depth Continue?9876543210 presented.
Recently, I finished System Shock: Enhanced Edition - that amount of content!
I have a feeling the original Deus Ex was also a bit more complex than the new ones.
Those are just examples, of course, that I've just recalled.
