If you take the walking path north, and go under the Autobahn, you can get to Südkreuz Station.

IKEA - Yes, it's everywhere. I came here several times. Perhaps I didn't mention it before, but instead of renting a furnished apartment, we actually got our own lease and found a roommate to fill the third room ourselves. Seeing as that was the case, we had a lot of furnishing to do in order for the place to be livable. While we tried to get most things second hand to keep down our costs, there were just certain things that we couldn't find used.

And that's where IKEA came into play. Of course not having a car meant, that we were limited in what we could buy. Whatever we ended up purchasing, we had to be able to carry the couple blocks to the station, and then be able to hold it on the train without taking up too much space. Some of you might wonder if this is an acceptable practice, moving furniture or large items through the trains. While it isn't exactly encouraged, you are allowed to bring your bike with you. So you kind of have a little leeway there. And we made use of it often.
(Random Aside, we once struggled to get a desk on the U1 from Prinzenstrasse and we got a lot of dirty looks, but even though they gave us crappy looks, some of the other passengers helped us get it on the train, so it's kind of a mixed bag the reaction you get. With three of us we could kind of justify the desks presence, as we all get one large item to bring with us.)

This was also the first place I tried Preiselbeersaft. Seriously, one of the best things I've ever tasted. One of you, ship me some please!

But while you're here, why don't you go shopping and look around. If you search hard enough, you might find something you want. Personally I always want trading cards, but you know, whatever. Heck, Trading cards and TIc could make for an interesting find.
