The games on steamgifts almost always come from bundles. If you see a ton of games you want, check isthereanydeal.com to see if it's currently in a bundle at a discounted price. In most instances, you can buy the game for a couple bucks and get a bunch of other games to give away here. Humble Monthly is an exception though because you have to subscribe before the bundle is announced.

Not every game given away on here is from a bundle, a good chunk of people buy games just to give them away (though a lot of them are for events). This was from the humble monthly though. Full transparency.

Site stats (link above) indicate only about 12% of giveaways are non-bundle games. If you see many, many copies of a game, then it's practically guaranteed that game is currently in a bundle. If you really really want the game, then there's a good chance you can get it on the cheap for a short time.
Either way, I'm thankful we have the chance to possibly get some games for free thanks to the generosity of the people using this site.
