Description

:-)

So, another weird one from Fanatical, from the Prestige Collection bundle.
This is apparently the Legendary Edition, which if Google is to be believed is the older 32-bit version (basically the 32-bit GOTY), that was updated to the 64-bit version in the presently available Special Edition. Details on the differences between the two editions here.
However, Steam says I own this one, but Legendary is not in my library (Special is), nor can I find Legendary on SteamDB.
EDIT: Thanks to pizzahut, here it is on SteamDB

So what will it redeem as on your account? Fuck knows.
I would guess owners of Legendary will be autoupdated to Special?

OK to enter for DLC's.

i got special but can enter this, who knows what will happen

Do you think Special Edition owners should not try to enter? :D

By all means - enter away.
But don't be surprised if it comes back as alreday owned and a re-roll will have to be made.

Why would you enter, if you own the newer version of the same game?

Supposedly it won't be updated: https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/nyy31/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-legendary-edition#1Gt1o6w

Same question as in the other GA - is it ok to enter for the DLC? I have base game but no DLC.

Here is the SteamDB entry you were looking for: https://steamdb.info/sub/28187/apps/

Details on the differences between the two editions here.

The link you gave is a big sparse on details, so let me try and throw out the information I've seen on the matter:

Legendary has better armor and hair detailing, and better support for legacy mods.
Special has better natural light sourcing, better fog effects, different water effects, better foliage, more stability and less memory usage, support for newer mods.

There's a lot of claims that Special has better inherent graphics, but if you look at any comparison videos, the real distinctions are just in the graphical elements I noted above. Legendary has a crisper tone to it, since SE heavily blurs everything (which is great for the fog effects and foliage, and the foliage is much better done to begin with), and while SE definitely has better graphical systems in place, the overall graphics are more a matter of subjective preference than of SE being objectively better (again, many individual aspects are clearly better, it just doesn't overwhelmingly change the whole in an objectively preferential way).

Compare: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mczA3LlUyWo

That said, that's out the door, and only a relevant comparison to those who don't intend to mod. Bethesda games have always been about the mods improving basic functionality, and that's true here as well. Here's SE, post-graphical mods, followed by Legendary with the equivalent graphical mods:

SE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd8kGiWe0vk
Legendary: https://youtu.be/VO5QgehBBII?t=817

In short, you do have to use mods to get the most out of SE (or Legendary), but after that it's noticably better in graphics (though both game versions do look pretty fantastic after graphical mods), even taking away LE's only advantage of being more detailed on armor and hair (the one it has due to SE natively applying a blur across everything), on top of SE being more stable.

I also believe we're now to the point where it has the better mod support of the two versions (in the sense that most major mods have now been ported over, in addition to SE getting new major mods, so while LE still probably has more compatible mods in total, SE has more that actually matter- unless you're wanting access to a specific incompatible mod, of course).

(Disclaimer: Keep in mind that I don't own either game and just have done a lot of regular looks into the matter, being pretty into the Skyrim modding scene, and have only picked up these details along the way. Corrections are welcome, where necessary.)

However, Steam says I own this one, but Legendary is not in my library (Special is), nor can I find Legendary on SteamDB.

Legendary was just the GOTY version of the game- ie, a package of individual content, not a labeling that would extend into your actual library. Releasing in June 2013, I believe its "Legendary" label came from a preceding game update from a month or two before, which added Legendary skills and effectively removed level cap.

It should show up in your library just as Skyrim (or, presumably, more specifically as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim), without any kind of Legendary tag. As that link suggests, you can still get the base game and individual DLCs for the older version through Steam; It'll just run you an obscene amount to do so, as they no longer ever have any sales.

As such, with the points in the previous post above being considered, copies of the Legendary complete edition still have a lot of value for those gamers who don't need the absolute best graphics or who want access to some older mods, despite it no longer providing copies of the special edition as part of its activation.

That's a great explanation.
Finally I understand.
So as OP said can enter for DLC, as I only own the basic skyrim.

Weird, that last post was cut off at the end, looks like it glitched while I was posting it. I tried editing it to have a more conclusive end, now. Fixed some confused parts in the first post, as well. Sorry about that.

And yeah, Legendary's still a completely worthwhile version of the game. Again, it's down to those comparison videos I posted above, and down to which mods you prefer. If all you're going to be using is graphical/convenience mods, and you don't care about having it absolutely perfect, LE'll be fairly identical as an experience, and will still provide a comparable content mod experience (especially as many of the notable newer SE-exclusive mods.seem to be paid content club offerings, so if you don't want to pay extra for mods, you may perhaps not really be seeing any new mods you want with SE to begin with).

Thereby, if you're fine with the basic verison of Skyrim, then Legendary's probably going to be just as good for you as SE would be, and it's definitely the best option for you getting your missing DLCs for the basic version.

SE's no longer as bad as it used to be but, conversely, it's not near as much of an improvement over Legendary as others believe it to be. Again, it's mostly going to be down to subjective preference on the graphics if you're not using mods, and down to which content mods you prefer. Of course, if you want the best graphical experience, you'll want to go SE with full graphical mods, but it's not like LE doesn't look great after graphical mods as well. Personally, I'm okay with either version of the game, so I imagine there'll be others who will be as well.

As far as the stability aspect, SE is built to run at 64 bit (which does mean it likely won't be able to run on older OSes, given that I can't find anything about it having a compatibility mode), which lets it do things like utilize more memory and process larger calculations. Generally speaking, from what I've seen and understand, this'll mean things like improving distance rendering, smoother area transitions, and so forth. It's stuff you'll appreciate once you have it, but not stuff you'll realize you're missing until then. It's kind of like upping frame rate on certain games that already have a passably smooth- but not excellent- frame rate to begin with.

More notably, while SE apparently has some new internal stability issues (ie, new CTD inducing bugs and a higher tendency towards generalized bugs) this increase in its available memory usage also means that it tends to manage excessive amounts of mods much better than classic Skyrim did. So if you're planning on loading the game up with an exhaustive amount of mods, SE may actually be a better option for that reason alone.

Though, as I noted before, SE and LE have somewhat different modding environments. So, from a stability perspective, LE could actually be a better (or at least equivalent) option for those who don't intend to do much content modding. SE, on the other hand, would be favorable for those intending to load up dozens, or even hundreds of mods at a time.

I'm not good at extrapolating what people are needing, a lot of the time, so I do tend to give verbose answers to try and cover the bases. Sorry for the length, and hopefully I covered what you needed. :)
