Description

This is my biggest disappointment of the year.

It's a controversial pick. This game has phenomenal reviews. I just found it kind of tedious and boring. i didn't like the combat, minigames, or side missions. On the plus side, it has great animation, quirky characters, and it keeps adding new gameplay mechanics until the very end.

What is your biggest gaming dissapointment this year?

Interesting take.. for me, Borderlands 2 was a disappointment. I saw the reviews and the art style (I think it's called cell shaded) looked good but the gameplay got a bit boring for me and some parts of it showed it was a 2012 game. One of my pet peeve with this game was that if I stayed in an area long enough the enemies would respawn.. like I just cleared it. The guns were good though. Maybe I might have liked it if I was a gamer in the 2010s but I started a little late.

I loved playing Borderlands 2 with my boyfriend but we played a long time ago, so it wasn't as dated. I still haven't played 3 because of how bad the reviews have been

umm Gris🫣....i did not like it, the best part for me was the ending of the underwater level. The constant praise over the years, didnt feel justified.

I'm glad I'm not alone 😅I didn't dislike the game, but it wasn't as good as the reviews would imply. I liked the art style though

I only got maybe half an hour into Gris when I tried it.. I found it a struggle even though it was pretty. Might try again one day but glad others seem to not think it's as good as the reviews 😅

You just need to be more exhausted to enjoy it perhaps! ;)

“Tedious and boring”
I think I understand. Some games feel like they’re made to waste your time, while at the same time seem charming and make you want to continue playing in the vain hope that you’ll start enjoying it.

Yep that's exactly how I felt!

I didn't see any appeal for this game, didn't enter giveaways for it.
I was really disappointed by Fury Unleashed, I made it to the last boss but the difficulty jumped from almost none to don't even bother if you don't have twitch reflexes. Milk Way Prince was utterly terrible as well.

Oh man thats the worst. I'm more of a casual gamer so when difficulty spikes up out of nowhere it really kills the momentum for me

This was one of my favorite games of the year! But obviously it's not for everyone.

I'm in the same boat as you in regards to Dave. This one and Dredge. Tedious and boring hits the nail.

Diluvian winds and war hospital, repetitive gameplay loop and both lack a solid backstory.

I've never heard of these but Diluvian winds looks right up my alley. Thanks for bringing them to my attenion

nevermind, I just realized you are not recommending it. 😅 I might just wait for a bundle then. Repetitive gameplay doesn't sound fun

Gris was just a pretty game that couldn't land for me.
Wavetale was mostly what I was afraid it could be at its worst- a really cool mechanic, but otherwise the game is flat, boring, and needlessly big and long. And it's a 3 hour long game to begin with.

I agree with Gris. It was wonderful to look at, but that's really it for me. I've never heard of Wavetale. It looks really nice though. It's unfortunate that it fell flat

Either Alpaca Stacka, where i saw Overwhelmingly Positive reviews and went in expecting a short cozy game. Instead i got a soulless 5 minute game with what feels like barely any effort put in.
Or...
Hotshot Racing, as a fan of racing games, esp. arcadey ones, i went in with high hopes considering the Mostly Positive reviews. It turned out to be a total chore and snoozefest, just terribly unineteresting game all around.

I've bought my fair share of games based on the good reviews and was disappointed. It's always the worst

Games I liked less than I "should": Waveform, Runaway: A Road Adventure, It Takes Two, Samorost 3.

I liked the Co-Op in It Takes Two, but I was not feeling the story at all

I cant pick just one

Dragons Dogma 2 - i havent played it, but the bad performance issues +requirements i probably cant run it

Indiana Jones- requires a raytracing card, same thing i cant run it

Throne and Liberty(mmo)- i played a bit during the beta, absolutely beautiful but generic and boring for me. I dont get how devs/publishers can put so much talent and technical acumen(it runs great!) in something so average

Same thing with Indiana Jones :(

I forgot about Throne and Liberty! I tried it as well but it wasn't very interesting like you said

Besides Dark Deity I posted under the last giveaway, it would be Counter-Strike 2. After months of no new contents, the big drop after their anniversary was a new case opening simulator, which you will need to pay to be able to access, and constantly play to get "currency" to redeem those cases. I still encounter known hackers months after first report them, and the bot farming situation got worse.

I've never played but I've heard similiar complaints. It's a shame when fun games get ruined by greed

So I was saying that in La Volpe's post, but for me it was Nier Automata.

I did not like the characters, nor the story, and even the mechanics were not fun. It was really a big disappointment, particularly when many people around me sang its praises.

I tried to play and I was really really terrible at it. I've been meaning to pick it up because of how much praise it gets, but it's probably just not for me

Agreed, I was also very dissapointed after rushing to buy it due to Godzilla limited event. Now it's abandoned in 2nd act due to how it seem to just throw a bunch of stuff and ideas together, without really making them FUN to do. Was expecting much more, but will try again, even if just for all the collabs it has

My biggest disappointment was Outer Wilds, I just hate gaming on a timer, noped out really fast when I realized you had to do things at specific times and places in the loop, and if you make a mistake you just have to repeat everything over until you reach there again :<

I feel you! I didn't even figure out the loop or the puzzles. I was terrible at steering the ship! I am more of a casual gamer so I need some kind of objective or direction. I tried like three times to play it. One of those games I wish I could enjoy but it's just not for me.

I used to watch some youtubers play Hello Neighbor back in the day, and the game left an impression on me as fun. But in reality, the puzzles are confusing, and there are a lot of bugs. I can't understand how people can complete it without using guides.

I used to watch play throughs on youtube and I could never tell if it was actually a fun game or just a meme. Very strange game and didn't seem to have a real direction.

StarCraft II: Nova Covert Ops

Not exactly new game but I guess I wanted to try it out anyway, and it was cheap...
I had pretty much almost no expectations, maybe I thought that it will be bad... And it still disappointed me xD It was soooo boring xD
And plot was sooo stupid xD

My biggest disappointment was Full Throttle Remastered. I love (or used to love) classic point and click games and remember this game fondly. Turns out I can't go back to tedium after experiencing all the modern QOL improvements to the genre.

Oh, I guess this one is gonna be a repeat from my previous comment, but yeah Nightmare Kart was a disappointed since I had been following the update videos of its development on youtube and when it come time to play it I just hated it.

Oh man, controversial indeed! :P Dave the Diver was the game that kept giving when I played it- even before so many of the free add-ons and crossovers. I could see it being repetitious during some of the fish hunting sessions though. Some of the rarer spawns were frustrating to fill up on. It certainly did scratch my min-max collecting itch- though admittedly, once completed, I had no urge to go back and tinker around for fun.

The disappointing pick is easy: A Little to the Left. It wasn't bad, really, but based on the idea of puzzles dealing with sorting, cleaning, and tidying everyday life... I thought it'd be a homerun! Instead, some puzzles were too simple, some were a little tedious, and the levels stopped coming much too soon. The DLCs are quite pricey for what they seemingly offer the base game ain't too cheap either, honestly and daily challenges just rotate between the same 7 or 8 types. I love the idea, and the art is charming, but the actual game was a letdown.
